Dan described this as a blue purple spinel that is a moderate color shifter. It is 1.01 cts and 5.75mm. This first photo is the one Dan sent me. The stone seems to be sitting at an angle. While this shows the faceting the color is darker in person, which I expected. IRL I find the stone purple indoors and a light denium blue outside in the shade.

Here is Dan''s photo.

This next photo shows the spinel outside on a sunny day being shaded by flowers. It shows the cutting really well too.

Here it is laying on my hand indoors with light from the window and indoor lighting as well. You get an idea of the size on my hand and the sparkle factor. This is one very sparkly stone -- perhaps that''s due to it being a spinel, as well as the cutting.

This photo shows the spinel in full direct sun. There is a thread on PS about well cut stones showing extiction in full direct sun so I thought this photo was interesting. What do you all think?

This photo is of the stone inside and I have PS up on the computer screen behind it! It is more purple colored inside.

Outside when shaded it looks to be a light denium blue. I love this look and expect it''s what I''ll see in the school car line once I''ve got my stone set.

WOW that is STUNNING - love how delicate the color is, and you can totally get a sense from your pics of how beautiful and sparkly it is IRL

This was taken inside in low lighting on a overcast day. I really don''t see the stone looking like this normally. But I do love this look also and will be pleased to see it like this again.

Thanks AmberGretchen I had to work hard to get photos that show the stone as I see it. After waiting for the rain to end. It is very sparkly and most of the photos I took with the cover on ''cause I didn''t want to risk my stone falling outside. I''m such a chicken!!

But my husband is impressed with the sparkle so I know it''s quite obvious.

That is one gorgeous spinel!! I love the colour of it and it looks so sparkly!

It is gorgeous!!

Are you still thinking of bezeling it?

Thanks Dayna and MTG!!

No Chrono pointed out in another thread that bezel setting a moderate color shifter would limit the light getting to the stone. So since I want the color shift I''ve decided against a bezel. And I don''t know how I''m going set it. I do want to set it in a ring though.

Any suggestions?

Love it! I actually like it better IRL than in Dan''s picture

It is very pretty and has so much sparkle

It''s really pretty!

I have one thats similar except it''s a darker blue outside and more of a lavender inside. It took a while for me to get used to it. But I think these lavender spinels have a sort of sophisticated look since they aren''t the bright candy shades we''re usually after. I''d love a pair of lavender spinel earrings one day.

Lovely stone :) I really like the color!

Ditto! It looks great in all lights - you got a good one!!

Thanks D&T, Ltl Firecracker, innerkitten, stepcutnut, and cellentani!

Inneritten --
I too would love a pair of spinel earrings, already asked for them and was told that small matched ones are hard to find. SIGH how did you set your color shift spinel?

THANKS VR Beauty and Lauren I actually took alot of photos that were too poor to post. And I do think that it's hard to capture the color of a color shifter.

WOWWW!! I love it!! Congrats!! I think I need a spinel!!

What a sparkley stone!!

I haven''t done anything with mine but I''m thinking a bezel pendant. Someone posted an aqua done by Sally that looked really pretty.
It''s so similar to your stone and also cut by Dan. It''s a touch larger at 6.1 mm.

Holy Cow, that''s a lively stone. It''s just gorgeous and I love the soft color.

THANKS cinnamon, TL, and catmom!
