We're getting married this week so I had to put things on hold with searching for a diamond. But I'm hoping to rev up the search when we get back from our destination wedding.
Are there any general rules of thumb when evaluating the specs of an OEC? A range for table and depth and diameters? Anything to help rule a stone out (or in)? I saw a stone with specs for table and depth in the 45-50% range and those seem low compared to others I've looked at and I really don't want to waste anyone's time if the stone will be a complete dud.
I know there are certain vendors for sourcing stones but when I did a search here on diamonds I landed at USA Certed Diamonds. I am sure they are a vendor but I'm not sure I've seen much mention of them. It looks like I can have them sent to an appraiser near me so I can look at them IRL. Is this a bad idea vs. purchasing from OWD or GOG?
Also I have tried to find something on PS about the differences in grading reports between GIA and EGL but I haven't been able to find anything. Can someone point me to where this info might be either here or on an external site? I've only looked at GIA so far and just want to be able to understand how a stone with a EGL may stack up when looking at the report online.
