Text books!!! The CB just started back to school yesterday. Tuition for two classes at the community college to meet general requirements: $492. The books for those two classes: $290. Wow.

Hey--my son has already hit MY pocket book up for University books! Yikes! :o I encourage him to use the resell venue at the bookstore--but often they do not resell. Boo$$hoo

cheers--Sharon

If he's going to re-sell, have him look for the school bulletin board or the online board. He can sell directly to another student for FAR more than the bookstore would give him. One person in my class sold his math book to another student for $110 (new $190, used $150) after the bookstore wanted to give him $10!

I've been keeping all of my books because it just isn't worth it to take them to the bookstore. The only one I did that with they gave me $1.50  (physics, math, and engineering books make great reference books to use for later!)

I used to do this! Except I'd just stand in line at the bookstore selling my old books and buying my new ones for much better prices!

Petrol/gasoline price in the UK is very high, currently around 1.29 GBP a litre!!!

The prices of soft drinks and popcorns at cinema are very high too.

I went to Norway on business once, and bought a colleague I was visiting a bottle of vodka from the duty free shop on the way out, and he was very happy with his gift as alcohol is very expensive there. Mind you, everything is expensive in Norway!

DK :))

Billy Ray went in for his first oil change. At check-out:

Max (the service manager): That will be six twenty-five.
Me: Six twenty-five what?
Max: Six hundred twenty five dollars.
Me: American?!?

Welcome to the world of expensive upkeep. I will be taking the Lexus in for an oil change tomorrow morning... $19.95. American!

That's kind of a lot even for your car, DeeJay. Did you ask around at the PCA for names of independent shops? There are shop lists on the (insert brand here) forums, try googling around.

Our stealership offered to change my oil, and it was $210. I told them no thanks, I've only put 500 miles on the car since I bought it from you.

iLander, I talked to the President of the KC Porsche club and he actually said it was "fair big city pricing." I paid:

$90.21 cabin air filter
$15.06 o-ring
$36.21 oil-filter insert
$3.43 aluminum seal ring
$70.95 mobil oil
$5.58 cleaner (what cleaner?)
$18.00 rub care (wonder what they rubbed...?)
$4.34 washer fluid
$385.00 labor (for this amount of money I would like a happy ending too please)
$30.00 environmental fee (the CB described this as the service to throw away the dirty rags)

So this was actually the "one year service package." I have all of 2,120 miles on Billy Ray...

Good gawd, DJ! Platinum service. You practically could've bought platinum!

Unbelievable. :o I avoid dealers like the plague for car service. For his '63 Maserati DH uses independent vintage car shops. He recently needed new tires -- had to be ordered from France, some unusual type of Michelin, 6-month wait for the next tiny production run. Can't remember the price, but one tire would have paid for all 4 of my VW wheels, plus a couple spares.
