Steve Bannon named chief strategist to the president

Unhappy people protest and people get beaten, some may even die; some property gets destroyed, maybe even an entire city goes up in flames. White suprematists come into power and billions die, entire countries get reduced to rubble.

IMHO.. Trump's behavior is responsible for these protests because of this divisive rhetoric and inflammatory behavior during his campaign. Words and behaviors have consequences and I personally believe that people wouldn't be so upset about his winning if he had not been behaving in this manner. He, nor any of his surrogates, as far as I know, did not comment on the riots, besides Kellyanne Conway saying Obama and Hillary need to deal with it. It was not until he was asked by Stahl about it during the 60 minutes interview, that he expressed surprise at the amount of protests going on, said that they were "professional" protestors and then said "Stop it". I was bothered by the fact that he said people were scared because we don't really know him. Right now, we only know what he said and did during his campaign. He needs to take some responsibility. and I personally think that's what should happen. I believe that Obama did say after the election that people need to accept what has happened. DJT needs to start leading if he wants to be the president of all of us.

But he is not President yet. You can only have one President at a time. And that would be Obama. He needs to address this.
And if what he already said, did not work, address it again and again until people start listening.

I think our current president does need to step up and offer leadership, but it has to be handled sensitively. How many times has he had to address the nation during tragic public shootings? Race related tragedies? You think Trump is going to somehow handle it with more class?

IMO Obama has been conspicuously absent during race related tragedies.

Riot the fvck away. Who the fvck cares? Not me - except for the law enforcement, innocent bystanders, and businesses that have to pick up the aftermath of a bunch of a$$holes acting like fvcking idiots. Be careful Ruby and anyone else who comes in contact with these people who have had their world turned upside down by an election. Sorry I missed all this fun, I was watching the president for the last hour.

Obama is scheduled to speak later today. I am interested in what he has to say - both about the ongoing violence and the Bannon appointment. I liked this from Nany Pelosi
Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the Democratic leader in the House, issued a statement on Monday calling Mr. Bannon’s appointment an “alarming signal” that the president-elect is committed to a hateful and divisive vision for the country.
“There must be no sugarcoating the reality that a white nationalist has been named chief strategist for the Trump administration,” Ms. Pelosi said.

People should not side-step this appointment. It needs to be spoken about. It is not too late for Trump to rescind it.

LOL I totally missed it. Damn. I need to pay more attention to the time difference.

And even then I fear someone is going to run in front of my car and I will not be able to stop in time.

My husband works in one of the State Buildings. He has to navigate around them each time he enters and exits the building. Peaceful protesting is fine, but many are just looking for a fight.

He did not say anything about the violence. He did not take the bait of Martha Raddatz or another reporter to get him to say nasty shit about Trump either. I thought he was professional and complimentary which I would expect nothing else from him. He is a good man and I believe he does have the American people's best interest at heart. I just don't agree with his way of going about doing that.

I wish that I could say I have no words for this, but I DO have words. MANY MANY words. None of them appropriate to post on this forum.

Yes I see he didn't mention Bannon either. I understand wanting to make a smooth transition, but, damn.

He cannot act like some people/news outlets are doing because it would make it even more divisive. I applaud him for this. Bush never spoke ill of him after the election and I hope Obama keeps up that same decorum. I would think much less of him if he sunk to the level of vitriol in the news and on PS.

Red said, "So sorry for stepping into your bashing coffee klatch. Continue on." Red, you have a talent for boiling it down.
First they chastise conservatives for not participating, and then when a few do, they tell you to kiss off.
One liberal recently called conservatives here "old broads." She should have written "tough old broads." :P
No one has the time or inclination to participate in every thread. More often than not, I'm late to the party. I think I've closed out more threads than I could even think of starting.
When so many here posted concerns about race wars and religious wars and cultural wars, I tried to research the topic, but there's not much out there yet. (Not including FB and Twitter) I did consult Snopes yesterday and saw the same thing someone else posted. What that poster didn't include was that prominate stories on both political sides were debunked/questioned.
If people choose to think that millions of Americans hate others because they aren't like them in some way, there's nothing anyone can say. Even Michael Moore said this election wasn't about identity politics.
My opinion is almost all Americans just want equality and peace. Hope Moore is correct. Hope I'm correct.
Peace

I don't see how calling a spade a spade is sinking to any level of vitrol. I was assuming hoping he might say something like 'we don't stand for his policies but hope he can perform his job well' or some crap like that. I dunno. Anything. To not denounce him is almost as bad as supporting him.
eta - Also no one has to talk bad about trump by voicing displeasure at his appointments. If Obama had put a black panther as his strategist, I'm sure bush would have made some sort of comment about it lol.

Matata-

My first reaction to your posting about the First Lady was impotent outrage, because someone as unworthy of fulfilling Michele Obama's shoes as Melania Trump was being spoken of as if she were her superior. Because of the unfairness of an ill-educated, unqualified man following an educated, qualified man into the office of the Presidency.

But then I remembered how Mrs. Obama was received everywhere she went when she campaigned for Secretary Clinton. She was beloved by the American people. By all except the the ones with the deepest racial hatred. And the young people (except those in those four red states Jordy put up: Idaho, West Virginia, and a couple of others) are growing up with more respect for values of non-racists.

I am going to continue to have hope for the country, although I will work against the racism Mr. Trump is helping to stir up.

Deb :wavey:

Guilty. I'm going to reiterate that you and the other women I was addressing who took the trouble to respond to me can't discern tone. It was satire.

I guess your feelings of fear are more valid than anyone else's. What's the matter, do you need someone to coddle you? Why do you keep repeating how afraid you are? You think you are the only one feeling fear? Or wait, now that the outcome of this election is actually affecting YOU, I guess we should all try to comfort you. I'm surprised your buddies aren't just telling you to suck it up and carry one of your guns. My advice, ask one of the sons you raised so well to escort you to work daily. Surely they are capable of compassion.

Actually saying "I'm afraid!" when people protest while dismissing the BLM movement is quite ironic. NOW you're afraid? Nothing prior to this disturbed you?

Just kiddin again, N?

No you can hold onto the play doh and coloring books. I still have deadlines to meet and a job to go to daily.

As for my son, he has to go to his job as well.

In our family, there is no time for wallowing.

Wow. I come back to defend a posting about Michele Obama and Melania Trump because ruby mentioned it in another thread and i come back here to see a much bigger fight in progress!

About Michele Obama and Melania Trump.... I do not hate Melania Trump. She is probably a victim of Donald Trump. She has, however, been willing to remain married to him and been willing to defend him publicly (in at least one speech) although he has a racist, anti-immigrant, misogynistic agenda. She has no special talents of which I am aware, although one need not be talented to be a good person. She also has never performed any charitable acts of which I am aware. At most she has never been known to do egregious harm to others in her own right; she has "merely" supported a man who harms others.

Michele Obama, on the other hand, is an educated woman, a lawyer, a woman who has managed to be a gracious First lady and to represent the United States at many functions around the world. She is extremely well spoken, even eloquent, and a passionate advocate of civil rights. She has raised issues that have an impact on the health of American children and adults as First lady and used the bully pulpit to advance her causes. She managed to raise two daughters in the public eye. She is warm, charming, and loved by the American people.

AGBF: good for you for taking the "high" road on this one. You have been respectful despite particularly absurd things being said to you. I've always admired you, and this is no exception. :wavey:

I think we all appreciate the Obamas as a good family. The current President has high approval ratings, imo, as a person rather than as a leader. About three quarters of America thinks we are presently going the wrong direction under his administration. Hillary ran on the promise of a third Obama term, and those policies were rejected.
I overlooked the tweet at first. That was a public official who called the First Lady an ape? Is this for real? Crazy.

Didn't someone use that argument about Hillary that she should have divorced Bill.

I remember how that went over.
