I am a big fan of the cushion, specifically a modern cut cushion. Good Old Gold has a branded hearts and arrows cut of this stone (I haven't seen anyone else doing this) that is really quite nice.
I am on a shoestring budget as far as engagement rings go. We're talking between 2500-3500 with the setting and stone (and when I say 3500, I mean I will have to sell a kidney to make that budget).
I have found a few seemingly nice stones on GOG, and I have had less luck with James Allen. The cushions on James Allen in my budget seem to have a lot of less than ideal light performance. Lots of the watery crushed ice cushions. At the admittedly tiny half-caret size, this isn't a huge deal breaker I suppose. I just want to get the best stone I can for the money.
These are the two I have been looking at on GOG:

Both stones are spot on 1:1 squares with ideal light performance. Both are ~ the same size. I am trading color and clarity between the two.
Here's what I've found on James Allen that seemed like it fit my budget and was a nice stone.

The setting that I am in -LOVE- with is the Tiffany & Co Legacy. I also like the way the Tiffany & Co Soleste looks.
With the difficulty of buying a cushion, I am also considering maybe going with a round brilliant in a Solste round facsimile.
Help!
