I saw this on JA a couple of days ago and have been kinda obsessed with it -- and it's culet! I am not in the market for a different stone, but this one has been driving me crazy!!! :cheeky:  :cheeky: I don't have an eye for step cuts like some of you do, so can someone tell me what they think of it? It's a little dark in the middle, but I didn't know if it was the angle??

Would someone on PS please buy this, so it won't torment me so??? :halo:

OMG, you have no idea... it's torturing me!!! NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! :errrr: ;( :(sad

I'm not one to go crazy over step cuts, and this would even face up a tad smaller than my round, but I'm mesmerized by it!!   :lickout: :cheeky:

...it would even fit in my current setting. <sad day> ::)

The only way I could get it is if JA would allow a trade, but I purchased my stone from Diamonds Direct... Oh, how I wish they could get that stone!!!

When I was a little girl my mom's best friend, matron of honor had an emerald cut.. the last time I saw her (years and years ago I was young) she pulled it out of box, the band had cracked and I STILL spent 10 minutes just mesmerized by it.. and truth be known I always thought that step cuts were more expensive.. I loved her ring.. probably a .75 - 1 carat emerald style diamond.. I understand the love of a good step cut.. I even like baguettes a lot!

They are beautiful! I'm a round girl at heart, but I love a step cut with clipped corners like this one...

I won't buy it, but how about I debunk the love? Will that help? It's really dark in the center and shows a lot of obstruction, I think it wouldn't be very attractive in person.

I actually asked a vendor about that stone, and he said he thought it might not be good based on what Dreamer said. Then it left the site, presumably sold, and now it has been returned. So that may be the reason. I really wanted the stone, although I do not need to spend another penny this year.

@Dreamer: what do you mean when you say the stone shows a lot of obstruction? I'm not sure I've ever heard that before.

Gosh I am glad a couple of the experts chimed in because the first time I looked at this stone (I think someone else posted it) I thought it is such a cool shape but its a bit blah for me & I wasn't game to say anything and now the second time I look at it, and a few others have spoken up, I will agree. The shape is freakin' amazing, 110% cool, I can see why you fell in love with that. But the dark pattern on one side and going out vertically from the middle which you can see in their pics is really yuck. I tried to will it to disappear when the stone spins in their video but it doesn't, it just stays dark. This means it will look like that on the hand in real life. The centre area going out vertically and the left side of it where those thick bands are will be dead, lifeless and dull in real life.

Depends if you could deal with the lack of fire and scintillation in the middle and on one side of the stone (three quarters of the stone is not going on and off like step cuts should it just stays dark) to live with the neat cut of it. Love the cutlet as well. If it is a genuine old cut I could probably be more forgiving of it. If however, it's a new diamond cut to look old you could do a lot better.

That's interesting... and makes me feel better. I'm loving my ring again!

This is what I was talking about in the first post -- was afraid of that.... DANG!! I guess it's a good thing though, because this stone had been tormenting me! I'm so glad you guys could help me see the light... or lack thereof. ;))

I just need to get over it. I'm sure I'll get all excited about a stone in the future -- just not this one. ::)

Sometimes I like to give those videos the benefit of doubt because it can be the angle and just photography making it appear darker, when in real life the steps do have a good on/off pattern, but given the fact diamondseeker and a few others have contacted them and the staff also think it's a dud then I think it's safe to assume the pics are an accurate representation of it. There is always another diamond just over the hill, there really is.....
