Some guidance needed for this newbie

Firstly I would like to say thank you to everyone that built,runs and maintains as well as those who contribute!

I found a stone that is pretty appealing. I would like to know a. If it's something engagement ring worthy and b. worth $15,000

Natural diamond type iaab( no idea what this is dispute researching it- stone doesn't look yellow)

Cut grade is excellent.

Dimensions are 8.05 -8.01x4.99mm
Polish is very good
Symmetry is excellent
Fluorescence none

Table width-57%
Crown height 16%

The inclusions are in places I can live with. The table is clean.

Again- your help is much appreciated! I did use a dimension tool but admittedly I don't understand what it said.

What EGL lab graded it?

Run your numbers on the stone through the HCA: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca it's a pass/fail tool. Under 2 is a pass-- go directly to an idealscope image. Over two is a fail-- start over.

It was egl international.

The stone gets a 3.1 on that site. Guess I need to read up and probably pass on the stone.

Admittedly I'm not exactly sure why it fails but I have lots of reading to do!

If I were spending $15,000, I'd definitely want to know exactly what I'm buying. You can't have that with an EGL certificate (I believe EGL International is one of the worst ones). You're spending a very significant sum of money on this, you owe it to yourself (and your FI) to do your research. The color and clarity grades are most likely off (possibly by a significant margin considering the price). If you compare those exact same specs with one graded by GIA or AGS, you'll see the incredible difference in price. There's a reason for that.

It sounds like you've seen the stone. Is it from a B&M store? Are you open to looking online? There are a lot of reputable vendors that have been vouched for countless times here on PS. Remember that there are no deals with diamonds. You get what you pay for, or less.

Your budget of 15,000 is low for a quality 2 carat stone.
You best bet is a stone like this:
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.73-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-257629 and this one scores well, is only one color grade down for the EGL stone you were considering and is most likely eyeclean (ask the JA rep to have the gemologist check it out and tell you).

I'd put that one on hold. Lots of lurkers. Holds are no obligation and no cost.

It sounds like you've seen the stone. Is it from a B&M store? Are you open to looking online? There are a lot of reputable vendors that have been vouched for countless times here on PS. Remember that there are no deals with diamonds. You get what you pay for, or less.

There are some deals. But you are talking pre-owned then. Which I personally recommend. But some people are adverse to it for engagement rings.

EGL is not a deal with very few exceptions (those involve a trained eye, and an independent appraisal by Neal or Oldtimer or similar appraiser), and tremendous luck.

I agree with Gypsy, you're budget is too low for a quality 2ct (sorry, that probably wasn't what you were hoping to hear).

If you saw the stone you originally posted in store and was satisfied with the color, you're most likely safe going down 1-2 color grades, since it would've been graded an H-I (or even lower) if it was sent to GIA/AGS. There are many eye clean SI1's out there too.

Remember that cut is king, and can even help hide tint with lower colored stones (with intense sparkle!)
