Hello,

I am looking into getting a pair of diamond earrings on 3 prong martini setting for my wife. I am looking into the following options (both D in color) because the last F color stone I ordered from Brian Gavin Diamonds looked more yellow than I wanted. When I checked them out under my yellow kitchen lights and my flash app on my phone, they looked more yellow than the other F color diamonds i had and i dont think that is what i will like.

Anyways I am considering .395 carats and .393 carat, both D in color and SI1 in clarity which are both signature round from Brian Gavin. This pair will cost me $2,080.00. There is chance that Brian Gavin Diamonds will give me 5% discount with a coupon code which will knock the price down to $1,976.00. This is price without the setting.

Another option is Solasfera .36 carats each (both being D in color and SI1 in clarity). The price i am offered is $1,950.00 and the shipping will cost me $65.

Basically, .39 carat signature pair from Brian Gavin Diamonds and .36 carat pair from Solasfera diamonds will both cost me about $2,000 each. I have not been able to see a Solasfera in person but it seems like a real contender when i checked out Good old gold youtube videos.

I am split between the 2 options. I know that i have to chose what my wife and i will like more but i wanted to see if anyone had any valuable input that might help me make the better choice. Will diamonds that small be better on the traditional 57 facet cut of Brian Gavin? Or since i seem to like the more whiter flashes found on solasfera on youtube videos, will the slightly smaller solasfera be the better choice since it seems to yield a better spread?

And F color diamond will not look yellow… However, even a D color will under yellow light.

Ok, I vote BGD H&A stones. Reason being that Solasfera are very busy stones (10 arrows). These are relatively small stones
you are looking at and will be seen from a further distance away by most people (since they will be on ears vs. her finger). I personally
think you need some more bigger facet flashes in there instead of smaller flashes like a solasfera. This is my personal preference...
yours may be different depending on what you want to see.

you might find the Brian Gavin F stone looked more yellow under your yellow lighting because it is more ideally cut and reflecting the environment more. It is unlikely that it is actually more yellow.

Before making the commitment (along with the large price tag) based on this non controlled comparison, I suggest you put your diamonds against a white piece of paper in a neutral environment and really decide if the brian gavin stones are more yellow. If not, then you might be wasting your money, and more importantly, not have the desired effect of buying a D.

Have you checked out Whiteflash? I have a G colored diamond and in my family/room kitchen area it looks quite yellow. This is because I have a lot of gold, brown and yellow throughout those rooms. It is a very white stone. Good luck. :wavey:

I have BGD studs - one is a J SI1 0.65 the other is I SI2 0.63. Side by side over white paper, from the side or bottom, I can tell the difference. Face up I cannot tell the color diff in the I compared to my H engagement ring stone. The J is ever so slightly warmer next to the h.

Not saying to get an I or J, but you could safely do F or G and get bigger studs.

Thank you all for your input on color and size. My wife tried on many carat sizes and she doesnt want anything bigger than .4 and in terms of color, we saw some I and even K color stones that don't look yellow at the jewelry store. We just need to make sure we are ok with them in diff lighting. Gingo you must love jewelry! I see that youve got quiet a few of them! =)
