SOLASFERA - my solution to a loose size Solasfera

Hi friends

My Solasfera is still swinging
14.gif
though it is not dropping off the finger now..

Do you think that if i get another band and wear the Solasfera in between the 2 bands.. will it stop the Solasfera from swinging ??

Will 3 bands (2 wedding bands + Solasfera ring band) look too thick for the stone??

if you see closely , you can see that the wedding band is bigger than the Solasfera ring band...

Looks great, tulip!! I think you should go into the store and try what a 2nd band would do for you. With my ring, even though it fits very well, mine has the tendency to swing left or right because my ring is top-heavy (diamond is heavy in relation to the rest of the band hence it swings to either side). Having a 3rd ring (band #2) may help sandwich the e-ring and keep it from swinging either way. Hope that helps.

yeah.. u are right.. let me go to the shop to try and see if 3 bands are too thick..and if the stone still swing..

alternatively, I can order from GOG the Gabriel & co matching band.. but the problem is I dont know what is the size in U.S...locally it is a size 12....
you see... I am not able to try it on and thus has the risk of ordering the wrong size again...just like the Solasfera.

Thanks for your compliments too

tulips, may I suggest you measure the internal diameter in mm of a ring that fits you perfectly.
If you then give this measurement to GOG, along with what you *suspect* your Asian ring size is - they will easily be able to convert it for you and give you an accurately sized ring.

According to ring size charts I looked up, a 12 is a US 6 1/4. However your fingers seem slimmer to me in the pics..(could still be correct though)..

This is why I would suggest using mm measurements as much less room for mistakes

ETA: also, apologies if I missed this but is there a reason you cannot have the solitaire re-sized?

Arjunajane,

Hi, the reason why the Solasfera cannot be resigned is because the diamonds on the band will drop off if the diamond band is bended... acccording to many jewellers...sigh..

My ring size here is 12. Dont know what size is it in States. My solasfera is a size 6 (the local jeweller measure for me and said it is a size 13, so 13=6)...

I am not sure what size 12 = ??
5? 5.5? 5.75?

Hi Jon

Firstly, thanks for your patience in answering all my questions before the purchase... I know I am long winded and a careful buyer.

Secondly, thanks for helping me change the 14K to 18K. Really appreciate it.

However, size 6 is too big for me... i am having problem with swinging ring now...

Beautiful rings, love the tiffany one too!

Here's a Japan size conversion chart. chart 2

If they can't cut the e-ring, why can't they add size beads inside, or solder something inside, or put a "horseshoe" spring insert in it? Or you could have it soldered to the wedding band that does fit, and that should keep it from spinning, provided the wedding band fits snugly enough that it doesn't turn easily.

I just love your rings..they look fabulous together!

If they can''t cut the e-ring, why can''t they add size beads inside, or solder something inside, or put a ''horseshoe'' spring insert in it? I agree with HVVS. They should be able to put sizing beads or a bar or something to make it fit tighter.

BTW, your ring looks great, and so does the new band!

I just love your rings, beautiful!

Wow! What a beautiful set!

I think the rings look quite lovely together! Ooooo SO pretty!!

Are you adverse to having sizing beads added to your e-ring? I think that may be a good solution for you but I don''t know if that would make enough of a difference. It would improve the fit and lessen the ''swinging'' perhaps

Go to a jeweler you trust, and see what they think. What does the jeweler who sold the ring to you recommend?

well, this illustrates my point - both the chart I looked up and the one HVVS linked to state Japanese/Asian size 12 is a US size 6.25 and 6 respectively.
But your jeweller has your US size 6 as a local size 13...see where I'm going..?

perhaps this info will help shed some light:

"Ring sizing gauges and finger gauges as well as published charts do not always agree. The other problem is that there are two conflicting methods of reading ring gauges so it is quite common for measured ring sizes to vary slightly between sellers.

Ring re-sizing is best done by your local jeweller who can measure your required size accurately and adjust the fit perfectly."

(info taken from Aussie Sapphire.com).

Which brings me back to my actual point, forget using the sizes and measure the True Diameter with a ruler or other gauge, and go from that measurement.

I am aware there are (apparently) not many great custom jewellers in some cities in Asia (sorry, I don't know what country you're from).
But I agree with HVVS too that a local jeweller must be able to at least add sizing beads or a horse-shoe sizer without mucking up your pave..(you can do a search on these terms if you're unsure how they work).

all that said, your rings are very pretty. I am just trying to help as I wouldn't want to see you damage your lovely diamond due to sizing issues

nice idea

It is a beautiful and dainty set. Love it.

Hi friends,

Can I ask where you live? That is pretty bad..

Is is that they *can't* as in don't have the technical skill?
Or *don't want to* for liability reasons?

just curious..

ETA: tulips, have you mentioned the sizing issue to Jon (not on this thread, via email?)

This seems very odd that a professional jeweler can''t do sizing beads. Keep looking and maybe you can find someone who can. It''s a pretty standard service, not like it is a weird request or anything. I have sizing beads in my Tacori wedding set and I am about to have some put into a sapphire eternity band that I bought second hand that is 1.5 sizes too big!

I also want to say that the two rings look great together. I hope you can find a solution to the larger ring turning over cause it is beautiful!

Please tell me you''re kidding about the superglue! Don''t do it! It''ll get on the diamonds and dull them. I would just keep looking for a jeweler that can add the sizing beads. It''s not a difficult thing to do, someone should be able to do it.

Holey moley - I hope you didn''t glue your beautiful rings together.

Please - say it isn''t so!

I like it - though I think I''d get two bands and flank it :)

sob sob...oh no.... i have glued the two bands together.. i was too late to read your messages...

I shall take some pictures to let you see them...
for the past 2 days, my problem is solved! my solasfera ring no longer swing and no longer drop out of my finger....

The glue did not touch the diamond...

.. so i think it is still ok..

I did tell Sarah that my Solasfera ring is too big... but no solution... i guess it is my fault cos i asked them to make size 6... and size 6 is too big for me..

I stay in Singapore!
