Size differences avc vs. rb

Any help with the size comparison between a 1 ct August vintage and a 1 ct round brilliant would be greatly appreciated. Pictures/video would be great.

Their visual size difference will be a factor of their girdle dimensions more than anything else. AVC generally have smaller tables and hold more weight in their deeper cut which will make them appear a bit smaller as well. Personally I really like AVC and OEC in general as they show amazing pastels and face up really white in the lower color grades.

If you are set on a video GOG has a number of them on youtube that will get close to what you are looking for.

AVRs and AVCs are both deeper than a well cut RB so if you compare the two they do face up marginally smaller. Having said that some people prefer a cushion shape over a round and also visually think they take up as much (albeit different) finger real estate...

Are you comparing an August Vintage Cushion to a Round brilliant or a August Vintage Round to a RB?

Sorry did not specify. I am trying to compare 1ct august vintage cushion to a 1ct ideal round brilliant. I love the optics of the avc but I worry my budget, around 9k for loose diamond (g-h eye clean) wouldn't be big enough for the size stone the lady deserves. I know it will be smaller but notacably? And by how much? Would like AVC to be as close to 1 to 1 length to width as possible.

I think it depends more on what your eye prefers. Both are beautiful stones!!!

What kind of setting are you considering? You could always do a nice halo and that would up the finger real estate.

I have a 1.43 AVC, and I can say it is a beautiful stone - love the chunky pastels it throws off! Can't go wrong there.

Do you have any idea what type of sparkle she is looking for? Have you shown her any videos of the 2 cuts? They are very different.

Thanks for the video size comparison helped a great deal. I have shown her videos of both ideal cuts avc/000rb she says she likes one better than the other one day and the next it's the exact opposite. I am pairing center stone with tacori 2620. Truthfully I think the lady would love anything I get her( as long as its above 1 ct) but I would like to know she is getting the best optics available. Thank you also for the diamond suggestions I have never heard of canera antique stones their prices seem to be better but they don't carry tacori so it might pose an issue. Thanks all comments have been very helpfull

Hi, GOGs stones are more expensive than Victors. If you purchased a stone from him you would need to purchase the setting from another vendor, (there are many that stock them) and send them the stone to set. It's not that difficult to do. Alternatively you might be able to purchase one from somewhere or buy a bargain from ebay and ask Victor nicely if he would set it for you, no idea if he would or would not do it, or if you purchase one from somewhere like ebay or a preloved one or new already made one, it's a matter of making sure the setting is the correct size for the stone and then taking it to a good jeweller to set it for you.

I definitely know there are a mile of vendors who sell that setting that will sell you the setting only, you send them the stone and they will get the correct setting made and set it for you.

If you look up on the Tacori website you should be able to find a tacori dealer that can get you the setting only in your local area, you take them the stone and hey presto they can make what you want.

The other thing is how much the tacori setting is actually going to be and does she have her heart set on that setting in particular? Victor handmakes all of his settings and they are pretty holy WOW amazing, Tacori by comparison is quite expensive and is cast. One of Victor's halos would be a family heirloom and it will also give you the extra size you seek because you have been talking about the 1 carat size being too small.... Either way a halo should help solve that issue.

I thought this might help to visualize the diamond on her hand. Visit the Diamond Database website. Enter the dimensions/shapes of the stones you're interested in and see how it might look on her hand. You can adjust the skin tone and length of her finger on that site too. This still works if you don't know the stone's dimensions - the site will just use "general" dimensions in its place so it may not be accurate. This is just to give you a general idea. Hope it helps a bit!

I would LOVE an AVC in the Tacori 2620! Since it has a small halo, I would absolutely prefer an AVC in that setting over a modern round brilliant! And I agree with you that one that has close to even sides would be best.

But to answer your question, every stone is different and you just have to compare the diameter measurements. AVC's are very well cut, so they are often not as deep as other antique cushions.
