Ah, maybe I just don't have the patience. To set this star sapphire, I became really frustrated and gave up until my mother-in-law helped bend the edges in a bit. The sapphire wouldn't be secure without her work, and it still looks uneven.

It's a beautiful star!
In order to get a nice tight bezel, you have to measure the circumference of the stone to make sure you wont have any gaps.
Sometimes, in an effort to get it just right, I cut the bezel strip a hair too short, and have to start again:eek2:

Thanks, Stracci. I didn't make the bezel. I took Mastercut Gem's measurements and had someone else make the bezel for me, 12.5mm diameter. But what I received was a little too big and so it was very challenging to get the stone to stay in :(2. Good news is that with future MIL's help, the stone is secure, but the bezel around it looks a bit warped and wonky due to the pliers.

I think it’s lovely. Very plump and full of star button-ness! Looks really great with the thin band. I’d love to see a closeup. I admire that you did some of the work yourself!

I really want to buy a bench and a cab king lap setup. I remember that the learning/ skill acquiring curve is high with metal work, and any creation is a success!

Here is my 8.9 ct star sapphire. It is mostly grey but in certain lighting, it appears pale lavender. The stone and setting were from my local jeweller.
In my last photo, pardon the unflattering lighting, is a pink star (I cannot recall ruby or sapphire). It was a very pretty but I chose size over colour;)2.
I wanted to return to buy the pink star after a couple of weeks but it was sold by then. Oh well... saved me some money for other gemstones:D

I love your star sapphire! The grey ness of it is gorgeous when paired with that amazing crystal quality and substantial size. To me, it is extremely moon like, and the setting is just as cosmic and enchanting. Sometimes color is king, but other times the mood is just as amazing without intense color . Yours has such an amazing mystery about it.

That pink star ring is lovely, but I would have made the same choice, hands down.

Oh @stracci2000 your bypass ring is fantastic! I love the design and the metal work is so well done!

@av Your star is so lovely! I love the translucency and the Asymmetrical setting is just gorgeous!

I finally got my star sapphire reset completed this week. There’s a thread in show me the bling. Here’s a quick pic in diffuse light from this morning. And one from yesterday showing off the star in bright light.

Bluegemz, thank you for your kind words. After comparing the small pink star with your gorgeous ruby and its beautiful celestial setting, I doubt that I will ever be completely satisfied with that small pink one . By the way, I love your setting - it is really well thought out and complements a star gem.

Wow... look at the colour and the star is perfect ! Does it colour shifts IRL in different lighting? I see blue in your first photo and purple in your second photo.

Oh my goodness! I just realized I got your name wrong in my comment above on your beautiful star! It’s soooo yummy!

Thank you for the star love! Yes, it does shift quite a bit. It’s deep and blue in the shade, in very bright sun it tends to be a bit darker blue with a slight grey modifier, in diffuse light and in florescent it shows more lavender blue. In daylight indoors it can even appear medium powdery blue. It’s also shifty when it comes to translucency. It can look very watery and glassy like a deep pool, and then sometimes the light hits the silk just right and it’s less translucent and almost “fluffy” and soft for lack of a better descriptor. I’ll see if I can put together a collage of it’s different colors.

Here’s one of my star sapphires. I love the color but I worry that the setting is manly. I got it at a flea market (like most of my finds), so if something speaks to me (and the price is right) I have to pounce. This one was less 600 and a very heavy 14k gold setting

Here are some shots of my star family so far, though not the best pics because It’s so hard to get all the stars to line up! The stars are mostly at half strength in these pics. The little clear one with the jadeite star only kind of fits into this family. I really see a space for a purple/ lavender/ magenta star someday.

These aren’t star sapphire but they produce similar effects...

Black diopside earrings and ring

Cats eye moonstone

Those are perfect here too! Great collection. They are all ‘phenomenal gems’ after all. I used to post my star rose quartz bracelet here, but ended up giving it away. I’ve been looking for another star rose quartz jewelry piece ever since because I miss it a lot.

Star diopside is interesting. I remember once contemplating a gold ring with one in it, but they were asking too much. But the blackness of them are quite intriguing. And of course, moonstones are amazing.

How beautiful! It must be difficult for you to decide which one(s) to wear! The one in yellow gold reminds me of a thumbprint cookie with that plump halo (my diet is making me see food everywhere!:roll2:)

The pink and blue ring actually came with some gold swirls on both sides which made it feel very 80s and also made it difficult to stack, which is what made me hesitate. I had my jeweler chop them off as soon as I bought it

I’d never heard of a star rose quartz, but I bet that’s beautiful with the soft color.

Hey thanks! I’ve been wearing the ruby most lately, but that’s in part because it’s new. They all have different moods so it depends, but the little clear one gets worn the least for sure.

I love what you did to the pink and blue one. What a fabulous stacker it must be. I hadn’t thought of it, but now that you mention it, I can imagine it clearly.

Star rose quartz is lovely. I had a sphere bead bracelet. This time, a ring or pendant would be my choice. Here are some examples above. More rarely, one can find star citrine and blue star quartz, but it’s not a strong blue color.

My itty bitty lavendar star sapphire came today and the color is impossible to photograph! Ugh
In photos it comes out all possible colors of purple and lavender, it's madness.
Although in RL its definetely closest to the photos taken without flash but, its also very different than the color that the listing photos showed.
While it turned out to be different, luckily I still enjoy the teeny baby Star and am still thinking that yellow gold would suit it best!
I know....a 32$ gemstone in yellow gold?!
But it just so very much requests YG!
I cannot ignore the stone for sensibilities of course!

Uploading 2 photos is never an easy task for me so just beware the impending photo bomb!

These aren't mine, but I'm considering buying one or both. As always, the problem is too many stones waiting for a setting verses buying these luscious drops :wall:
Plus, I'm not sure of pricing. Can you guys give me an approximate price per carat for this quality? They are around 2.5ct total weight.
I think they would make gorgeous earrings!
