We need a thread on just antique and vintage ring boxes.
I love them, but they are hard to find out in the wild. I found these all at local thrift and antique stores, and the black one was in the family.

Please show us yours!

Here are mine.
This one is from the 1930s

This one is so old, the velvet nap is all worn off. But it has a mother of pearl release button.

This one is maybe 1930s. It is kidney shaped, but the camera lens doesn't show it well.

I love all your ring boxes but especially the mint green velvet with the white and gold, at least it looks mint green on my screen.

I’ll have to gather mine together tomorrow.

Yes, it's mint green.
I'm looking forward to seeing your ring boxes!!

maybe i better not biff ot Grandma's and Aunty Neeta's ring boxes after all :lol-2:

I used to collect art deco and Victorian ring boxes. I've sold some along the way- and here are some that I have kept. The white heart box was in the family.

They are all so beautiful. The celluloid ones are so yummy!

When I bought the snake ring a few weeks ago, the dealer kindly offered me the antique box he was displaying it in. I happily accepted his offer, and then he pulled the box out of the display case...

And I see it has no top! :lol-2:

You'll have to leave it open from now on!
Bet seriously..... if you're handy, maybe you can glue a square of brocade or velvet to cover the top.
Being that it's in bad condition already, you have nothing to lose!
And the ring is stunning, BTW

So true! I can't keep anything on display at this point, since our kittens are up to nothing but hijinks, but maybe someday!

Oh, you guys are dangerous. I'm afraid I'll start another collection.....I only have one ring box that looks vintage to me. It came with a vintage ring that I bought on Ebay, but it could be a replica.

The first box is not a ring box, I’m not really sure what it’s for but I love the interior.

The bright white box has dark green velvet but no jeweler name inside.

The last one is from a jeweler in Waterbury CT so that was a lucky find.

I actually have ZERO antique ring boxes, but hopefully I'll acquire some soon haha. My earring boxes are really encouraging me to buy a pair of antique dormeuse earrings!!!

I’m glad I have the chance to see this ring again! Love it so much! Where did you get it if you don’t mind sharing?

One of the vendors in Grays Antique Market in London. So many excellent vendors in there. Some more reasonably priced than others. Spent a happy afternoon browsing, chatting, and eventually making a couple of purchases.

So the snake ring came from this fellow. Small collection, but nice stuff and pretty reasonable prices. He was happy to haggle with me:

And I got a lovely little old mine crescent pendant from this lady:

And I really enjoyed both of these vendors and had really lovely conversations with both, and they each had really excellent collections:

DBGEMS had some really wonderful crescent and starburst brooches.

I really regret not purchasing a pair of coral drop earrings from Charlotte Sayers. They have a nice website, but alas the earrings are not available online. :cry2:

Terrific! We need to see that mine Crescent!

Once it's back from the jewelers. It had clearly been a stickpin, and a pendant loop made from the pin, but I didn't enjoy how it sat on a chain, so it's off getting spiffed. Should have it back this week or next.

I have two. @stracci2000 , one looks similar to the one you have from the 30s, so now I wonder if it's the original - the ring is art deco. The second is the original - It seems that the founding jeweler was born in 1805. 20230731_120446.jpg20230731_120452.jpg20230731_120148.jpg

Pretty blue box!
There's just no way to know if the ring and the box belong together.
You'd need documentation from the original owner to prove it.
That sapphire pin makes me drool.....

Would a 35 to 40 year old or possibly more ring box count as vintage? XD if it does I have a picture of the only one I own I can share.

show us then !!!!! :appl:

just the other day i was thinking about the age of vintage things ?
vintage not being old enough to be antique
so just my thinking out loud

so not jewlery related
but when i was a kid my dad's friend from his school days had vintage cars
my favourite one was a green Austin 7
now this is back in the 70's
so i googled and those cars were manufactured between 1923 and 1939 so lets just say it was made in the 1930's
so lets say just for arguments sake it was 1975
so that's about 45 years old ??

i must say i was none to happy to see things from the 1980's being described as vintage ...because i was an '80's teenager
but time keeps marching on
:lol-2:

so just show us =)2

my apolgies im off on a tangent :lol-2:
(my phone still inst fixed so i cant show you great aunty Neater's ring box )

but i was googerling the difference between antique, vintage and retro
good lord retro can be only 15 years old !! o_O
i still think retro is the 50's and 60's but thats now vintage i guess

this is about furniture but you know :lol-2:

Let’s see!

Can't talk about what is in it because of what it is. But this is my grandmother's ring box from her second marriage. So it's at least 35 if not older since I'm not 35 just yet xD When I was first given the engagement and weddings rings in the box I admit it wasn't my favourite box because it didn't look like a mrs box. But it's really grown on me and I really really appreciate it now. So I try to take good care of it so that maybe one day it might make it to be antique xD
