IMG_7741.JPG I like to collect cat's eye chrysoberyl.
Another 2 stones. The green one is cat's eye alexandrite.
And the light brown one is normal cat's eye.
Oh, I’ve aleays wanted a cats eye crysoberl or an alexandrite! Just love phenomenal gems. Yours are beautiful! Any plans for them?

Oh I didn’t know this was a thread!! I only have two. The round is cut by Barry Bridgestock & set by Patrick Irla.

The pear is from Mastercut Gems. I have mixed feelings about it. It the first gem I purchased that was “kind of sleepy” & my first pear. I want to love it but I’m kind of meh. Occasionally it does light up & sparkle nicely.

I’d love to find a seriously neon green chryso someday. I love the color chartreuse as well!

Chrysoberyls either can be golden in color or greenish yellow or minty. It’s nice how this thread demonstrates so many variations on their color, even though they’re primarily known as a yellow gem, except for alexandrite.

Speaking of vanadium chrysoberyl, LD bought an advertised “vanadium chrysoberyl” that she noticed it color shifted from pink to light green. It ended up being a vanadium alexandrite!!

Here’s her photo:

Wow, how surpricingly!! The group in front are regular chrysoberyls and the group behind are Vanadium chrysoberyls. Never expected that there are few with such strong glow! Ive to go through all I've with the UV light during the next time:mrgreen:

Now I’m wondering, has anyone ever seen or heard of a cat’s eye vanadium alexandrite? I haven’t searched yet but wow, what a dream stone!

It is no „vanadium alexandrite“ - it is a chrysoberyl with a very low iron content and a very low vanadium and chromium content.

Enough chromium to show a color change and pink LW UV reaction course iron is quite low and doesn’t quench the fluorescence.

This halfmoon vanadium chrysoberyl shows pink LW UV ( 0,02% V and 0;02% Cr but only 0,22% Fe - V and Cr and stronger coloring agents than Iron). Not enough Cr to show a CC like LDs stone which is and very beautiful light colored alexandrite. You can find several on the vault of MCG. To my knowledge the stone from LD is from MCG and Tunduru Tanzania.

The larger cushion on the handshot of Lexililac has 0,07% V, 0,02 Cr but 0,43 Fe - same amount of chromium like my halfmoon but much more iron so fluorescence is quenched. With an increasing Iron content the stone would become a yellowish green and finally greenishyellow to yellow genuine chrysoberyl. 15184CDF-3F71-412E-8875-FCE080E7EC3D.jpeg

From the left: 3 chrysoberyl, green chrysoberyl, Vanadium chrysoberyl and two near colorless chrysoberyl.
The cushion is 1,44 ct with 0,07 V, 0,02 Cr and 0,43 Fe
The halfmoon is 0,78 ct with 0,02 V and 0,02 Cr but only 0,22 Fe.

Not the amount - the ratio of V, Cr and Iron makes a Vanadium Chrysoberyl. There can be pink LW UV fluorescence but if there is a CC it is alexandrite.

Years ago MCG offered a very large vanadium chysoberyl cat‘s eye.
Super color - bluishgreen. Still hunting for one.

I have a few chrysoberyl and love them, but have yet to set any of them for some reason.. Here they are loose from top to bottom: round from Mastercut Gems, round from a PSer on LT, vanadium chrysoberyl from Multicolour, big cushion from Roger Dery purchased from a PSer on LT, and pear from Prima Gems.

Nosean it's my stone that TL has linked to. It's actually an Alexandrite that has Vanadium in its make up. This was sold to me as a Vanadium Chrysoberyl not an Alexandrite but if you look at the pictures, you will see the colour shift from green to pink. It has a very very weak colour change (compared to for example my profile picture which is an Alexandrite too) but it IS an Alexandrite as Chrysoberyl shouldn't change colour across the colour wheel. What I love about this stone is (a) the clarity and (b) the minty green pale colour that you very rarely see with Alexandrites so it is quite a rare stone.

Hi LD

Yes, we discussed this stone a few years ago.

The color change is amazing for a light colored stone so def. a rare and special variety.

Here's one of mine. I collect crystal/mineral specimens so it's not a cut stone:

Mint green chrysoberyl 1 tweaked.jpg

I had to tweak that photo to make it look similar to how it looks in daylight in real life, which is a beautiful mint green. It goes a faint non-descript greenish-grey in incandescent light so it has colour-change properties. It fluoresces a peachy pink in UV. I wonder if it contains some vanadium? Apparently it's from Espirito Santo, Brazil.

Here’s a two carat very deep yellow chrysoberyl, flanked by some violet spinels I’ve collected years ago. I like the colors together. Sorry for the fuzzy shot. The luster on chrysoberyl is so difficult to capture, but it’s amazing.

Neon chrysoberyl with a lovely hint of green. From Orissa, India (pic not shows the beauty of that one well) sparkles like crazy!!
I love the color and character of chrysoberyls from Orissa!
