I have a Homegoods near me. I'm going today!
Thanks, MB!
May I share my DH’s original stocking from childhood?
We have all the original ornaments and decorations from his childhood. Everything. When the cats started breaking the glass ornaments we stored everything away in our attic for now.
His aunt made this ornament over 60 years ago
We have some beautiful old ornaments. I want to go through them when I have the energy.
I’m a little late decorating this year, just finished the tree yesterday and our outdoor lights today. Still have staircase, fireplace mantle and other stuff to put up!
We usually have hot chocolate, play Christmas music while decorating the tree with the kids, but his year due to my son being away at college, we didn’t stick with tradition. We have other traditions such as taking Christmas card pictures at Thanksgiving, and wearing family outfits! Sneak peak of our dog wearing the family pajamas...
Lastly, I always make an amazing prime rib roast....for Christmas dinner!
Your cats are so beautiful! And I absolutely love that Greg has kept all of these! I wish we had some from my childhood but honestly growing up my parents just didn’t really care about the holidays. I don’t remember us putting up a tree or decorating, I can’t even remember getting gifts from my parents.
I think that’s why I’ve been saving all the ornaments and why I always try to decorate and make the house festive during this time of year.
I want my kids to have Christmas memories. I want them to say - Hey, Do you remember that year when Mom did this or bought this ornament ...
It’s just such a special time.
I feel your pain @mrs-b Next year I’ll alert you when I see anything cute. They sell out Christmas things so fast. I bet there was nothing left but the dregs!
My ex has been out of work up until recently and even though he is working now it is only 1 day a week. So he told kids not to expect any gifts from him. I normally really dig the holidays, and I did buy gifts, but it is def going to be more low key this year. I think it's because, my Dad died in spring. Cases are going up so I won't be able to see my friends or have an open house. (part of the fun of decorating and cooking/baking is to share with people) and as I had to take a bunch of medical leave starting in Aug to middle of Nov I am behind at work plus had 2 new projects added to my workload. So, not taking much time off during holidays (3 days). Honestly other than medical leave haven't taken much time off this entire year. Also I casually see someone, but religion-wise he does not celebrate Christmas, so no holiday traditions with him. Maybe if my house was organized and I felt caught up I would enjoy it more, but I'm not there! anyways re reading this, maybe my gift to myself will be a couple more days off this month!

This year is pretty low key. Hopefully once things are safer we will do a Thanks/Christmas family get together/dinner in the spring. Hubby is working on Christmas. The little tree here will be enough.
We have a larger tree in the front window and house lights.
Closer to Christmas I will make sugar cookies. I have a feeling next year will be all about reconnecting - even we introverts.

We put our decorations up at the weekend. Usually we put them up 2 weeks before, but I relented to pressure from the girls, who wanted to get their sparkle on a bit early. Also note the fairy lights in the far end of the dining room that has a glass roof section. They took me an hour & my arms were bleeding. Those lights are not just for Christmas - they can bloody well stay put!
