everyone's decorations have been beautiful and out of a story book / or have even included a story book
but my favourite have been Missy and Greig's cats
Tibby is more a weight lifter than a gymnast and Borris can climb trees but im pretty sure our tree will be safe again this year
i really love the winter tree look plus its a bonus if there is no rush to put it away post xmas

May I share my DH’s original stocking from childhood?

27D1F069-5E55-4245-A096-4DC2CBFCF69D.jpeg

We have all the original ornaments and decorations from his childhood. Everything. When the cats started breaking the glass ornaments we stored everything away in our attic for now.

His aunt made this ornament over 60 years ago

We have some beautiful old ornaments. I want to go through them when I have the energy.

Your cats are so beautiful! And I absolutely love that Greg has kept all of these! I wish we had some from my childhood but honestly growing up my parents just didn’t really care about the holidays. I don’t remember us putting up a tree or decorating, I can’t even remember getting gifts from my parents.
I think that’s why I’ve been saving all the ornaments and why I always try to decorate and make the house festive during this time of year.
I want my kids to have Christmas memories. I want them to say - Hey, Do you remember that year when Mom did this or bought this ornament ...
It’s just such a special time.

I’m a little late decorating this year, just finished the tree yesterday and our outdoor lights today. Still have staircase, fireplace mantle and other stuff to put up!
We usually have hot chocolate, play Christmas music while decorating the tree with the kids, but his year due to my son being away at college, we didn’t stick with tradition. We have other traditions such as taking Christmas card pictures at Thanksgiving, and wearing family outfits! Sneak peak of our dog wearing the family pajamas...

Lastly, I always make an amazing prime rib roast....for Christmas dinner! A486CAE4-E14A-46EB-A56B-324E077BE024.jpeg

Thank you @kayla17. I agree completely.

Yesterday was Greg's mom's birthday and it was bittersweet. She died this past June. Greg texted photos of their childhood stockings to his brothers and they were discussing their childhood Christmas customs. Many wonderful memories.

It is nice to have all the beautiful glass (and other) ornaments. I do wish we could put them on the tree but we have learned our lessons rom past Christmases and broken ornaments. Perhaps one day we can resume decorating the tree when the kittens are older. Tommy and Bobby for the most part don't break the ornaments. IIRC.

On a lighter note we texted a photo of Gracie in the tree to Greg's cousin and she replied oh where can I buy that ornament. I love it. LOLOL. I guess Gracie does sort of look like a little doll ornament here.

I grew up only celebrating Hanukah despite the fact I so badly wanted a Christmas tree and to celebrate Christmas too. And it all worked out because here I am an adult and we celebrate both. The best of both worlds IMO. Not to get on my soapbox but I think this would be a better world if we all supported each other's joyous holidays together spiritually vs you know what which I cannot mention here. We are all in this together and I wish we could all be there for each other no matter our differences. This is what I love about PS. We are here for each other no matter that we are all different we are the same where it counts. The human existence. OK sorry for my tangent.

Wishing all happy and healthy holidays and a happy and healthy pandemic free New Year. XOXO.

I feel your pain @mrs-b Next year I’ll alert you when I see anything cute. They sell out Christmas things so fast. I bet there was nothing left but the dregs!

A few sad trees and the sort of Santa figures that haunt your nightmares!

My ex has been out of work up until recently and even though he is working now it is only 1 day a week. So he told kids not to expect any gifts from him. I normally really dig the holidays, and I did buy gifts, but it is def going to be more low key this year. I think it's because, my Dad died in spring. Cases are going up so I won't be able to see my friends or have an open house. (part of the fun of decorating and cooking/baking is to share with people) and as I had to take a bunch of medical leave starting in Aug to middle of Nov I am behind at work plus had 2 new projects added to my workload. So, not taking much time off during holidays (3 days). Honestly other than medical leave haven't taken much time off this entire year. Also I casually see someone, but religion-wise he does not celebrate Christmas, so no holiday traditions with him. Maybe if my house was organized and I felt caught up I would enjoy it more, but I'm not there! anyways re reading this, maybe my gift to myself will be a couple more days off this month!

We put our decorations up at the weekend. Usually we put them up 2 weeks before, but I relented to pressure from the girls, who wanted to get their sparkle on a bit early. Also note the fairy lights in the far end of the dining room that has a glass roof section. They took me an hour & my arms were bleeding. Those lights are not just for Christmas - they can bloody well stay put!

next year will be eaiser for a whole multitude of reasons but that first one without a loved one is always harder
The year my dad died Mum did Christmas breakfast (with guests) just to do something different and so others wouldn't feel obliged to invite us to their own big Christmas

Years latter Gary and I used to spend Xmas breakfast with his mum and dad just to beat the traffic and it was nice

Don't let your (otherwise wonderful) new man stop you celebrating Christmas
I hope work picks up for the kids' dad
how any one can survive on part time work let alone just one day a week is beyond me, but Christmas isnt surposed to be about material things

I am so broke its not funny, we grocery shop once a fortnight and i think ive managed to get just festive enough without spending hardly more than usual
Its a bit eaiser with just the two of us and having to cut sugar out of Gary's diet makes it eaiser not to indulge

It sounds like you are well overdue for rest !
but still do something nice for yourself on Christmas

You definitely deserve it @partygypsy If you take a few days off...don’t do anything other than pamper yourself. It’s like filling your car with gas. Big hugs to you..

This year is pretty low key. Hopefully once things are safer we will do a Thanks/Christmas family get together/dinner in the spring. Hubby is working on Christmas. The little tree here will be enough.
We have a larger tree in the front window and house lights.

Closer to Christmas I will make sugar cookies. I have a feeling next year will be all about reconnecting - even we introverts.

your Christmassy all looks like out of the movies, all very beautiful
the only person i know who does multible trees is my SIL because she does her decorating by colour
mine is going to be a bit add- hock this year
most of my outdoor lights seem to need new solar batteries so they will just have to stay in their box this year with my no spend Christmas
