Should I buy this JbG emerald cut ring?

I currently have this ring on hold from tonight's Jewel Journal. I would like some opinions from the Emerald Cut experts please! In the macro shots you can seem some inclusions but I can't really spot them from the distance and the face up size for the carat weight is huge. I love that it has a short keel and a small open culet and the setting would work really well with my lifestyle. It is much smaller than I was planning to buy, but the setting gives it a much larger look. What What do you think of it?

My thoughts:

First, buy what you LOVE. If you're asking us, maybe this isn't the ring for you.

Second, I'm not crazy about the setting. It doesn't look like it fits the stone that well, and it blunts the crisp corners that are (to me) part of an emerald cut's appeal. Then again, it's not clear from the photos what's going on with the stone's corners. It's possible the bezel is actually hiding less than clean cutting.

Third, if it were me, I'd find an extra thousand dollars somehow and buy the loose, 2.61ct L VS2. And then I'd save some more money to have it set in a setting worthy of the stone.

But that's just me...

And if the ring really is tugging at your heartstrings... go for it!

In the vid of the ring on her finger it seems to exhibit a pronounced bowtie like effect. Hard to say if it's leakage and reflecting the band underneath or if it's just due to obstruction. I would probably be inclined to pass on it but that's just me and I could be mistaken and it's a wonderful performer.

These comments are so helpful, keep them coming. My initial reaction to the ring was that I love the elongated asscher-y look of the stone. I do wonder about the bow tie that you are pointing out - I too noticed it but am not sure if it is due to the setting or what.

It's true, the bezel looks like it doesn't make contact with the bottom edge of the stone but maybe it's just a macro shot. Otherwise I love how bright the stone looks. And the rounded edges doesn't bother me - my marquise has taught me that I need super rounded edges if I want to wear my bling 24/7 around my kids.

There is an OEC of hers that I am also considering so it's no big deal if yall think this is a no-go :) That's why I need ya!

edit to say that the 2.61 is totally gorgeous and I somehow missed it. I love how it has no bowtie - but I am somehow drawn to the art deco look of the short keel in the bezel ring. What to do, what to do

I'm not a fan of the stone or the setting.

I haven't asked, but after her Christmas rush she is going to do a comp video for me of the two emerald cuts, along with the 3.63 OEC on her site and my marquise just so I can see the size difference. I've been eyeing the 3.63 a long time and am having a heck of a time deciding between that stone or an Emerald cut. I need some spiked eggnog lol

Enjoy!

I don't love the first emerald, too tinted for my taste. The second is prettier, but still a little tinted for an emerald for me. But if you like the look of it...

I'm interested in the OEC.

Ditto. Dark outer, bezel is too thick and uneven.

The OEC is pretty. I think it was listed on LT before Grace had it. You seem to have been pining over a fancy cut so keep that in mind. I know not having a ring is driving you crazy but as everyone says finding an antique cut takes time. Good luck and am loving following your search!

That's true. I do really love the orangey pastel colors of that OEC so it may be the one for me if I don't find an emerald cut that sings to my heart. I like the old EC's that come to a point with an open culet which are harder to find. My bling money is tied up in my marquise so I have time to hunt. Happily I have an eternity band on the way to keep my finger blingy :-)

This is the OEC and I have been lusting after it for a long time. But I also want an emerald cut. Why Can't I have both?? My husband prefers round stones but I would like this to be the last time I buy a diamond (gasp!) so I want to get it right. Here it is.

Would it solve your problem if I took that emerald cut off your hands? :naughty: I've been lusting after a step cut, though I REALLY shouldn't go for it, since it really wouldn't be terribly practical for my life...

It would solve my problem if you bought my marquise  but you may absolutely take that emerald cut if you love it! :-) are you talking about the 2.61? It is pretty, eh?

I believe I am smitten! Trying to justify it by giving it to my mother. Too bad she's not a marquise fan!

Was thinking about putting the emerald between some tapered bullets or trapezoids. Inspired by mayk's emerald in the VC setting. What do you think?

Yah that marquise. I love that sucker and I don't really even care for MQs usually. Nor that low of color … usually.

But the combo of the shape and color of that stone in THAT setting - ugh. Divine!!!

Sorry no help on the EC question :)

Smitten with my marquise??? I wasn't a fan until I saw mine - maybe she would like it, maybe you should show it to her

Mark's setting is the epitome of class! That is what in would do, too :-)

I'm open to offers on my marquise......give Grace a shout if you are interested :-):-):-):-):-) it is this in case you are curious http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/3-15ct-antique-marquise-cut-diamond-solitaire-gia-w-x-si2#.VnhiCCKIZSA

Thank you autocorrect....I meant Mayk :-)

I feel the same way about it. The shape, the color, everything. It is absolutely massive on my little fingers so as much as I hate to give up such a honker I need something i can wear non stop. I wish it would sell so I can buy something new from Grace!

That OEC is to die for. But for me, personally it's too tinted. Have you seen stones this tinted in person?

I'm concerned about that.

As for which to chose. The one that makes your heart beat faster. And that is the OEC it sounds like.

Oh yes I have a QR OEC and a WX marquise :-) I'm all about the low colors! Isn't that stone so pretty? It is like a sunset on the hand. Yes please! I need to listen to the heart, you are right. Sell, marquise, sell!

Okay well, if you love the lower colors, that OEC is beyond a knock out. I like that second Emerald you posted too. But you can't have both and the OEC is the one you have been wanting.

Thankfully the emeralds are both spoken for. I will buy that OEC the second my ring sells. If the wait does kill me first..... my eternity band will be here Wednesday to tide me over....I hope

So weird but I didn't get the Jewel Journal this time. Glad you linked the stones! I think the OEC is so pretty! It looks like a light yellow which may be a lot like your marquise! At least a round won't be a dangerous weapon when around your kids!

The Jewel Journal always lands in the "promotions" box of my gmail so I sometimes miss it. This OEC has been on her site since September but I have loved it since I saw it on LT. Now where is my magic wand to make my marquise sell so I can buy that stone!!

Goodness that OEC is simply gorgeous!!! I sincerely hope your marquise sells lightening fast so you can nab that OEC and we can enjoy it with you, lol!!

Thanks! Being patient is hard. I wish I could buy it and wait for my other to sell but all my bling money is tied up in the marquise. Wah! I hope to make that OEC mine!!!!
