Sharing my new light brown diamond! Setting ideas? Thoughts?

This is my first PriceScope post, and an exciting one at that! My boyfriend and I have been talking diamonds for a few months now, and I have done tons of research on this and other sites. I was looking for something a little softer or more unique than a typical colorless diamond (as if any diamond could be typical!), so we ended up looking at browns, pinks, and yellows. We finally settled on a brown from Leibish & Co. and it arrived just two days ago! I want to get folks' opinions on it, and any ideas for settings or who to go to for a setting.

Here are some pics I took. Of course the color changes under different lighting conditions. It's 5.05 carat, light brown, VVS2, round brilliant. I was dreaming of a setting like this Cora International ring I saw here: http://www.corainternational.com/?p...&coll=&gift=&centeritem=10&q=&itemnum=MPR0014

I thoroughly suck at settings, but just wanted to say congrats! Can't wait to see what you do with it! Love the setting you have chosen. Maybe rose gold?

Wow that is a very pretty stone!!! and the ring in the link is amazing...I really love that one!

A setting like that would really set off your diamond. Really nice!

That is a beautiful stone! Wow- a 5 carat VVS2? Amazing find. Can't wait to see it set. :lickout:

Wow, I'm not usually a fan of brown diamonds but that one is gorgeous! I love the pink in it and if it were mine I would set it in rose gold to compliment the pink. The setting you picked out is gorgeous but with such a large stone I don't know if I would halo it myself. What size is your finger?

Gorgeous. I love light brown diamonds.

My ring size in 5.25... So not crazy tiny! I am a little worried about the halo making it look too large, as well. I don't want it to look like costume jewelry. But I was thinking if I could get a really thin halo of white diamonds that it would really emphasize the warm color. I've seen people talk about halos on PS down to 1.2 or 1.3 mm...

You could probably have someone do half pointers. That would probably give the contrast and emphasis you want without going overboard on size. I think Sarahbear has a similarly sized cushion that she got haloed. I agree the rose gold would pump up the pink undertone to it.

This was the exact sentence I was about to type

Love the stone and love the setting! Perfection.

Congratulations!

Oh that is beautiful!!!!!!! And I love the setting you picked out which is a HW inspired halo. It is very similar to my ering actually except I have a cushion shape.

For a pave setting like that I would definitely do rose gold- I think it would play up the color but in a beautiful way-a bit more pinkish. I think it would look stunning. I would also see if Victor Canera or Steven Kirsch could make your setting.

For reference here is my 5.06ct N/O in a VC halo that is 1.2mm I believe.

WOW your stone is amazing and huge. I love the third link to Leon. With as the other have suggested in rose pink gold and platinum band. I totally laughed at the copying warning and would totally want to order from it's creator Leon. It was read the right way!!! What I like is the mil grain detail adds to the antique look for me.

Re: Sharing my new light brown diamond! Setting ideas? Thoug

Your diamond is luscious!!! I agree that a smattering of nice white stones would bring out its sultry colors!

Re: Sharing my new light brown diamond! Setting ideas? Thoug

Wow, what a beautiful color! I think you have the perfect setting in mind! Love the idea of rose gold too!

Re: Sharing my new light brown diamond! Setting ideas? Thoug

I agree, going with rose gold would be lovely.

Since you have a 5 c stone, a sub halo or understated halo would be nice. the Tacori 2620 is an understated sub halo.

I tried this setting on in a jewelry store. It was made for a 9mm stone and it was lovely. Eventually I will purchase a 5c as well.

But before you decide I would visit several jewelers and try on many settings. What you think you want will most likely change.

Your stone is gorgeous...what are the specs?

Re: Sharing my new light brown diamond! Setting ideas? Thoug

beautiful diamond!!!! I love the soft color brown and it's huge!!! I agree with the other poster suggesting rose gold with a very thin halo to set off that beauty. I have seen SB's halo 5 carat diamond in person and it's perfection!! Done in rose gold on your diamond would be gorgeous!!

Re: Sharing my new light brown diamond! Setting ideas? Thoug

SB621- love the ring! Do you know what the tilt is on the halo? Looks like it might be set a little bit below the stone... do you have any pictures of it from the side? Who made your setting and are you pleased with it? It looks really nice.

Dimensions on my stone are 10.91 x 10.97 x 6.74 mm.

Re: Sharing my new light brown diamond! Setting ideas? Thoug

I love the one you posted in your initial post at the top of this thread. I also like the idea of a plain bezel setting.

Re: Sharing my new light brown diamond! Setting ideas? Thoug

Victor Canera made SB's halo and it is gorgeous! He would be my first choice since I have worked with him before and Steven Kirsch would be good, too.

I will say that I love light brown diamonds, but I would encourage you to explore a recut before you have it set. It looks good, but honestly, a recut could make it spectacular. It would probably take it a little below 5 cts, though. A few months ago, Jonathan at Good Old Gold had three brown diamonds that he was offering for recut. I believe he can have stones recut into ideal cut rounds or August Vintage Rounds which are excellent cut Old European cuts.

Great stone!

I'm not experienced with settings, but Waity, with an entire palace of staff at your disposal, can't they run around to Asprey's and have something run up for you by the end of the week? Or, does Asprey come to Buckingham Palace?

LOVE your screen name! :appl:
