Share your current obsession.. a gem, a piece, and idea - whatever it is, tell us about it.

Not CS related, and it is just a crazy idea at the mo as I don't have any spare pennies at present: to start a collection of blue Tahitian pearls at source, one at a time with Kamoka Pearls until I have sufficient pearls for a 18in finished necklace.

DK :))

Yesss. Although I do like a tin cup as well. Kamoka blues are the bomb (in a good way.)

As for my current obsession - I of course have been longing for a Buccellati bracelet, but with a milestone birthday coming up, I've chosen a limited edition fountain pen (my other obsession, lol.) Still hoping for the Buccellati someday, but somehow couldn't financially justify it, and the fountain pen is 1/3 of the cost.

Are you leaning towards 60mm? Honestly, don’t buy it unless you love it. I’m not feeling love from you :) what color do you want? Do you prefered color or texture?

I think within 58-60 is okay but the closer to 60 the better obviously. I would prefer a light colour with lavender being my favourite. I prefer better texture and translucency over colour though.

This strand of blues works out to be about 36 x 12mm pearls, hoping for graduation from 11mm minimum to 13mm.

I do not need the pearls to be perfect in terms of roundness, surface texture and lustre.

Semi-round with tolerable surface imperfection will be acceptable as long as they are blue! :lol-2:

Hopefully, I shall be able to purchase at least one pearl a month, for me to live long enough to enjoy wearing the finished strand! :lol-2:

If Kamoka does not wish to engage with me on this project, then I shall put the money aside until I have sufficient funds to ask the usual suspects to source a strand for me.

The other issue I have is that I need to have my near 20mm round Danburite set as a clasp for this strand, which should not be too costly in a simple bezel setting. If budget allows, I shall set it so that the clasp can take different strands of pearls which I believe should be doable given the depth of the resultant box clasp as the Danburite is quite deep. It will be worn off-set to one side in the front.

Don’t love, don’t buy! You need some joy from it! Don’t throw away money for the sake of it, haha after all you can always fall back on gold :P2

Thank you again for the advice lol can you imagine being stuck with that on my arm and I didn't like it. Haha at least you can't go wrong with gold lol.

I am trying to do that with pastel ringed Tahitians! So yes, I think you should! They said they would collect them but I am unclear on how long it would take or any details. They did not ask for a deposit. Did they give you any more details? I should circle back to them.

:oops2:

Well that’s optimistic pricing if I ever saw one.

I think her stones are very overpriced. She puts them on sale sometimes. I'd imagine she has to.

bear with me as my oppsesion had amethysts

how much on sale? I love the stone, but it's not worth $1000, not even close.

I've seen her do 20% off sales. Can't remember if I have seen her do 30% off. If you decide to make an offer at some point, that's the neighborhood to try.

Well, tomorrow we head out on an 8 hour drive to the Montana sapphire mines! With any luck we’ll be able to pick up some material that’s large enough to cut. Really, really trying to not get my hopes up too much though!

Thats so much fun, good luck and please report back! Would love to hear about the overall experience and if you find anything.

I have not approached Kamoka yet as I shan't have any spare pennies until towards the end of the year at the earliest.

Oh, another obsession is a Munsteiner piece in this style of carving. A flat 'cube' illusion with some 'bubble' looking carvings (contrasting the sharpness of the 'cube'), but I'm open to other forms instead of bubbles, as long as the cube effect is striking/the focus.

According to a seller with access to Munsteiner pieces, these cubes are older school designs/not produced anymore, so there is trouble finding one. But hopefully one will pop up eventually. I did come across a one at several hundred carats for 5k euro - which is just a touch too big. I'm posting it below. Legs for scale :lol-2:

I'm also hoping that 'the one' will be a more pleasing color/material - maybe amethyst, aqua, moonstone or tourmaline - which are common materials they use. Not a fan of this citrine brown.

Thanks. I stalked her insta and saw 35% off last November. I'm trying to decide what to do next. I love the stone and it's unique. And I also love the purple marquis spinel that I posted earlier in this thread, and a cute little victorian diamond and pearl charm on Etsy, and a couple of mabe pearl pendants I saw... It's a little too easy to drop $650-$1000 on an impulse purchase these days.

this is why this thread exists. same brooch, 25% off, available right now.
Did you order it already?

i really am on ban island for a reason

i need to get ahead on the rates so i having some breathing space

My latest obsession is a big rose cut or old cut pear citrine ring in a really rich 18 or 20k and silver collet setting. I don't know how this snuck its way into my head, I stick pretty exclusively to diamonds, but it's on my mind all the time these days.

This is the best I've got to go by for now.
