Hi all,
I posted about a month ago about a prong from my CVB ID Casablanca setting. Thank you all for your recommendations - I went to a local Boston jeweler who barely looked at my setting and basically told me I was imagining things until I showed them exactly where it was snagging and they said they "fixed it" in about 10 seconds. Needless to say, nothing improved so I reached out to Caysie. This is somewhat of a long-ish story so appreciate anyone who can make it through with me. It took 3 weeks for all of this communication which is something that has disappointed me. I certainly am not a "big" client of hers, but we did buy all of my important jewelry from her (both wedding bands, wedding earrings). I was hoping for a better customer service experience.
Reached out to Caysie and she had recommendations for someone to mail for rehab. I bought the setting secondhand two years ago and at that time, Caysie had agreed to size down from 4.75 to 3.875 but forgot when she set my diamond. I sent it back to her a few times and eventually got sizing beads that brought it down to about 4.25 which I figured was "good enough" but required me to wear my wedding band on top since it's fallen off my finger more than once
When the prongs became an issue, I came here and also reached out to Caysie. Like all of you, she recommended that I find a local jeweler and ship to her only if they made me uncomfortable.
I sent her a photo of my setting and asked her if her restoration person could also resize/add more sizing beads. She had forgotten that she recommended the beads (understandable) but now wants to remove them and resize. I initially opted for beads due to concern for structural integrity (brought up by her). As expected, none of this is covered since I bought it secondhand (although this was never explicitly stated by her when I emailed with her before buying), but she listed many issues (pave, prong check, resizing) and suggested scrapping the setting for a credit and remaking (out of my budget).
Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not updating my insurance in the new setting because I got it secondhand for approx the price that I paid for the original setting (lesson learned), so that's not an option. So I think I'm left with rehabbing the prongs (remaking vs restoring?) and resizing the ring. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm happy to mail to her suggested person (Sako @ Cicada Designs), but this hasn't been the best experience with communication over the last several years so wanted to know if there's someone else I can trust.
After this, will definitely get it reappraised in case there are any structural issues moving forward so that it will be covered by insurance. I guess another question I have is whether it needs to be re-appraised or is a receipt enough?
If you've made it this far, thank you. I really am so appreciative of this forum and all of the combined knowledge. I know that many people love CVB and I love her designs as well, so please don't interpret this as vendor bashing. I completely take responsibility for my own mistakes in not getting the size right in a timely manner, not updating insurance, etc but just want to resolve this so I can wear my ring again.
