What would look best?

Oh, goodness, you have many choices! Is this for yourself or is it for someone else?

Engagement ring for the lady friend...I kinda like the idea of a halo, but she pointed out a couple of three stone settings a few weeks ago in a shop window.

Planning a fall proposal most likely.

Okay, I will show you a few.

Two of my favorites for an AVR would be the Tacori 2620 (first ring on this page), and I also love the 2638 (last ring on the page). They have videos of both of those.

Then, another style I love is this one from Single Stone. (will post more ideas in another post)

I actually had a couple of pics of a Tacori 2620 that I tried on recently...and it also comes in a 3 stone version (2623), but that is going to be more expensive.

GOG sells Tacori, and they also sell Vatche. I believe the Vatche Grace can be made to fit an AVC...

Or, you could have Steven do a three stone setting for AVC's...you'd just have to see if Jon could have two matching small ones cut for your side stones. Halo's are nice on AVC's, though. They add size and really frame the facet pattern of the AVC.

Thanks, DS! Here's another pic for the OP:

Is kirsch pretty well regarded? Sorry I'm a noob lol

Mom, your ring is the only one that I've really been impressed with so far (no offense to others--I just don't get excited by jewelry easily). I think I'll use yours as a little inspiration..hopefully you won't mind.

Ohh, that is the picture I love, m2b!

I will second the response that SK is outstanding. The settings posted represent a wide range of prices. So a lot depends on your setting budget. Mom2boys'setting is the most beautiful, but it also will be at the top of the price range of the settings posted (other than the Tacori 3 stone which may be similar). I will say, though, that a smaller stone set in that setting would cost less than hers did, of course.

I'd go for the AVC three stone (all AVCs) and ditch the halo. Everyone and their mother are haloing Cushions. A three stone would be a classic elegant change of pace.

DEFINITELY gets my vote.

I'm looking in the 1 ct range for the center stone.

I'd get 25-30 point sidestones then.

It's a standard Harry Winston-esque halo so there are many versions out there, depending upon your budget.

Here's another PS'er's 1.69 AVC which looks fabulous:

I truly love the three stone, and it is worth considering especially since she pointed out settings with 3 stones. But what is her ring size? A halo is really going to boost the size of a 1 ct cushion. I'd probably have to go halo on that size unless she has a size 3 finger, maybe.

I don't agree. If she likes 3 stones... I don't think getting her a halo is a good idea at all. I know many three stone owners and most of them don't care for halos.

If you can't afford the sidestones you can go for tapered baguettes in a classic Harry Winston look.

Not sure of her ring size...I think 6 or so.

She wasn't extremely passionate about any one style or setting...my one takeaway was something round or square, not marquise or pear ("pointed"). So I. Figure a cushion is best of both worlds...plus I just think they're cool...and not quite as common as rounds or princess.

Tell us about her. Is she understated?

Does she like large diamonds/big bling?

She likes nice things, but doesn't normally wear a lot of flashy jewelry. She owns a yellow gold ring with a cluster of small diamonds that she wears fairly often. I bought her a silver paloma picasso tiffany heart bracelet for valentines day...she wears it nearly everyday and likes it because "it's delicate".

She's a former pageant girl, into fashion, make up, all that...and she's Latin, if that matters.

I love the AVC three stone seriously...but I'd want at least a 7mm center with maybe 4mm sides.

I would have to have a halo on a 1 ct cushion, though. Sounds like that halo setting might suit her!

You have to know her exact ring size to have a pave ring made. Does she wear any rings at all on that finger now? If so, I would try to borrow a ring that you know fits (needs to have a thin band), and go to a jeweler to determine the ring size. Or if you can ask her friend to find out, that would work, too, if she doesn't give away the reason she is asking.

No rings on that finger, but I was thinking of printing out a ring sizer and sneaking her right hand ring to find out....that should be close enough I'm guessing....

Most people don't wear the same size on both hands, so that is not close enough. You don't want to have to resize pave because it can loosen stones. It might have to be done in the future if her ring size changed, but I would not want to do it right after having a ring made. I will say that some people do a halo and have a plain shank (band) and then sizing isn't a big deal. Gypsy actually has a beautiful pave halo ring with a plain shank, as a matter of fact!

Thank you DS.

I would narrow down her preferences. Ask her mother/cousin/best friend/sister to show her some rings (pick a few from this thread) and see what she thinks.

And then I would be direct and take her to get her fingers sized.

That actually would be the most precise method! Tell her you want to get her Tiffany sterling ring to match the bracelet or something!

Ahhhh a whole new can of worms....how to get the size without doing something that seems totally out of character for me...
