Setting Help for a .3 Round please!!

Hello All,

My friend, from my hangout thread on Maternity, is getting engaged. Her BF has a .25 to .30 carat round from his grandmother that they are going to set into an e-ring for her... and she''s asked my help to find a setting to maximize the diamond. I''m thinking halo.

Money is tight for them with the baby coming, so the less $$ the better. Definitely under 1500... under 1K would be even better. So I''m thinking 14K or 18K.

This setting is similar to curly''s:

A .40ct stone is recommended, but they very well may be able to make it for a .30ct.

I do not like the look of smaller diamonds in a halo. I think that instead of maximizing the size, as is the case with bigger stones, smaller diamonds tend to look dwarfed by a halo. I seems to emphasize their smallness. I really think in this size I would do a bezel or 1/2 bezel. I was originally going to go this route myself and I couldn''t believe how much more oomph the metal around the diamond gives to the overall look. Definitely adds some millimeters.

Is more vintage style also an option? There are a TON of settings on Fay Cullen that would do the trick.

i tend to agree with jazmine. i'll have a look.

eta: i noticed signed pieces has a tiffany .20 solitaire for $760.. would this be an option and put the other diamond in a band, set flush. not sure if that would look right since the diamond they have is some larger, just a thought.

I wonder if a halo in a different colored stone, sapphires might give the bigger look without having the center look dwarfed. That way you can have the maximizing effect of the halo, a little color and have it look somewhat unique. And since the outside stones won''e be diamonds the center will "stick out" more.

For halos, I like the look of bezels surrounding the stone and I think it helps make the stone look even larger. This are nice ones that could probably be made for a .3 and maybe for less money.

If she doesn''t like halos, how about a tension setting? My friend has a .30 in a tension setting and I swear the stone looks quite substantial and elegant.

Okay, I''m coming out of the lurking shadows to respond. I like the first choice in BunniBling''s last post. It is almost identical to the ring my brother-in-law had made for my sister for their anniversary last year. He used a .25 diamond that had been in a ring of his father''s. It is very nice and sparkly and the center stone is not overwhelmed by the sidestones. Good luck to your friend.

Great suggestions (The knox halo is my favorite)... Choices from Faye Cullen would be fine... anything. I''m not at all familiar with tension setting so if you want to suggest a few I''m totally good with it!! THANK YOU ALL!!

normally I would agree with this but for *some* reason I haven''t put my finger on, I find exception to curly''s ring. I really like it!

I wouldn''t want to mess with their policies though, especially if I couldn''t afford to have the ring fixed potentially.

But I think this one is MADE for a smaller round, and it''s stunning, IMO. What do you think??

Is my favorite. Beverly K... so a good designer with quality they stand behind... from Pearlmans.... fabulous vendor. Setting in 18K $990 and it makes the stone larger.... and it''s square-ish.

This one is a stunning deco piece and has great finger coverage. Also beverly K and it''s 990 as well.

Perfect??? Fits a .33 round. Has a bezel but the halo doesn't overwhelm and it's sparkly with that band. And the price is 1090.

I like this one the most! It looks great and as you have mentioned, the halo on this setting definitely won''t overwhelm the center stone.

All the input and help has been wonderful. She was a little unsure about the size of the diamond being large enough to give her a nice ring... but I KNEW that with your help we could find her an amazing setting that she'll love!!

If it were my choice it would between any of the beverly K's if they can accommodate the size, and the Knox elegananza or Ritani inspired one KC posted. Or the mock three stone from Vatche... if that's the look she prefers over the halo.

Any other suggestions are MORE than welcome!
