Setting appropriate for stone?

No problem :) Bezeling apparently can bring out body tint. Many old cut diamonds don't have an exact round outline or square outline so a bezel might just trick your eyes a bit. I am not going to bezel my new stone, it is being prong set :) The ring is due to be completed soon, the custom cut oecs from Yoram are set to be delivered to Michael. Unfortunately, my bands won't be done in time for my anniversary Euro trip, but hey at least I'll have my new ring!

I loved your ring, ROL! But I see what you mean about the tint.

LLJsmom, I have looked closely at more AV stones than antique, but I think I see slightly less color in the rounds than the larger faceted cushions. I think you'd probably be fine if you like what you see with the foil!

I really loved my ring too, DS! It's just the tint bugged me and I didn't realize how unwieldy the ring was. It was definitely a consideration for my current ring design, to add visual impact without adding too much structure.

It's interesting that body tint of diamonds can appear after bezeling. After it was unset, and I looked more closely, I could definitely see it in a variety of lighting situations. I guess you can't unring that bell!

ROL and DS, I want you to know how grateful I am that you both shared these details with me. I'm super anal with details like this, and I know I wouldn't even ask the right question because I am so ignorant about bezel settings. I have no personal experience with bezels other than pictures and the pieces I have tried on in stores. Thus, I feel much insecurity and uncertainty in my own opinions and observations. This info is so invaluable to someone like me, the reality of it once you wear it for a while. Thank you for sharing the details of your observations and experience. This makes the difference in the go/no-go part of this decision.

You know that I am struggling mightily on my own design, but somehow, it's easier to offer an opinion on someone else's project. I really like the tin foil bezel! I'd hot glue that sucker on there and call it a day! Seriously though, I really do like it!!

Aww, thanks Missy! I'm talking to Caysie this afternoon and may be almost starting over again, so it could be awhile before you see anything from me!

IMG_2492.JPG I have gotten really good at my DIY tin foil bezel. Check it out! Maybe I should tell Victor I've changed my mind...:lol-2:

I'm telling ya! Hot glue my friend, hot glue! ;)

OK, so have you decided on a setting for your pretty? Do you think the bezel will work for you?

Hi MGR, I pretty much have. I'm going to do a bezel. I hope Victor's is as nice as my foil creation. It will be a while before I start due to logistics. I am excited.

Well, your foil was exquisite so he has a challenge ahead! Hope you love your finished ring!!

I thought it would be appropriate to update this thread with my thoughts, at least, now that I've been wearing my ring for 4 days. As you all knew, I was very hesitant to go with an antique style ring, even though I felt that it was most appropriate for my stone, regardless of who the vendor was. Although it suited the OEC, I wasn't sure it would that it wouldn't be "me". However, after having decided to take the leap of faith with the vintage style setting, I felt Victor was the only one I could work with and trust to make it. Still, before I had it in my hands, even with all our detailed discussions, I was still nervous.

Like I posted in the other thread, my first reaction was surprise. I expected something bulkier, heavier, that protruded more from my finger, was somewhat uncomfortable to the neighboring fingers, maybe something that would be uncomfortable to my eyes. It was none of that. It was everything that was the opposite. I won't rehash all the different ways the ring is perfect. But most importantly, it was "me", so easily, simply and unexpectedly, a confirmed solitaire girl.

So for me, in the end, it's a matter of the right ring, the right maker, and the right proportions. As @diamondseeker2006 and @yennyfire said, the right setting can work, can be right, and hopefully can be forever.

What an incredibly helpful post, LLJsmom! Thanks for your observations - I found them to be really useful and will keep them in mind when picking future pieces.

This is very helpful @LLJsmom !
I can so relate to this. I had reset my OEC several times until I found Victor via PS. I then realised that my vintage OEC needed a a vintage inspired setting but very 'now' that would also stand the test of time. Just like yours. Your ring is vintage inspired but with clean and fresh lines. Your beautiful stone seems to have found its forever home.

I'm so glad that your journey has had such a happy ending and was happy to listen to your thoughts. I think you knew all along what you wanted but like most of us, just needed some hand holding thru the process. Thanks for continuing to return the favor for me as well!
