I am still in the setting hunt, but starting to feel a bit overwhelmed!!!! One set (e-ring and w-ring) I am considering is the eternity "look" in platinum, although I do not want the diamonds to go all of the way around the ring (I''m just too hard on stuff).

What is a nice (not too think and not too thin) width for each ? My center stone is a 1.35 round stone. I was thinking possibly 8 stones (plus the center) in the e-ring and 10 in the w-ring. What size small stones shoul I be considering?

Thanks to ALL OF YOU. You are an amazing group of really smart, giving people. Thanks again!

Tyke

I think 3 or 4 pointers would be nice. It''s such a personal choice. Good luck.

I have 2 pointers, and my ring is rather thin.

I think 5 pointers give a very substantial, blingy look.

So if you want something in the middle, I'd go along with what Kaleigh said... 3 or 4 pointers.

See if we can dig up some examples...

BTW---are you thinking shared prong or channel set?

Mrssalvo''s ring with 3 pointers...couldn''t find her ring size... here''s the thread

Jellybean''s band of 4 pointers, again couldn''t easily find ring size. In this thread.

hi tyke,

thanks FG for posting my ring. i wear a size 3 1/2
jellybeans ring size is a 6 1/2

Hi Mrs Salvo..... are you happy with the size of your stones? Do you also have a wedding band, and who made it for you? Its beautiful and has that simple/elegant look I''m trying to achieve.

Tyke

I am very happy with the size of my stones. It actually is my wedding band and i am planning on having the matching ering made sometime in the hopefully near future. It was custom made by Whiteflash.

hey firegoddess and mrssalvo thanks for finding my info!

tyke - you may want to look in the eternity rings set thread. lots of great examples there!

i would caution that many people have had issues regarding the diamonds in the band and e-ring rubbing up against each other, possibly causing damage to the diamonds. that is one reason why i have yet to get the matching e-ring setting. those kind of sets are best soldered together, according to many jewelers, to avoid the rubbing issue. i'm not telling you not to get it - just to be cautious. i would look at a pic of mara's set. each stone in hers has 4 prongs as opposed to a shared prong. i wish i had mine custom made like that.

i would also add that while i like the 4 point stones in my band, imo i don't think there's enough "presence" for it to be worn alone. i only wear it with my solitaire. if you're planning on the matching e-ring setting then i would say it's fine.

my band is 2.7mm wide and i got it from Signed Pieces.

I asked about the potential rubbing problems when having my ring made. Bob at WF said there is the possiblity of damage but it would be quite a while, i.e. probably at least 10 years before that would happen. the 3-sided pave rings have are at a greater risk IMO. I have heard more stories of the shared prong bands damaging the heads of the plain solitaires than each other. Wf knows I want the matching band to sit flush and made the ring so that there is no diamond overhang. I''m not really worried about it. I love the look of the rings so much and didn''t want the extra metal of the 4-prongs even though it''s more secure. I will be a little more causious at what types of situations I chose to put my rings though.

Yeah, WF told me the same thing. My 5 stone band has totally scratched the heck out of my solitaire b/c of the diamond overhang, but I don''t think the eternity band has caused as much damage yet. I didn''t think of asking them to make the band so there would be no diamond overhang. Why didn''t I think of that!
