Selling wedding band in NYC.

Long story short, I lost my wedding rings about 14 years ago and am trying to replace them. So I bought a 14K white gold wedding band with 7 diamonds at Macys. Since I am not happy with the ring, I went to a place on 47th Street in NYC to try to sell it and I was offered $50 for it. At first I thought I didn't hear correctly, but then the person said that Macy's is not a place to buy jewelry or diamonds. The retail price for the ring was $1800 and I paid $1100 on sale. If I want a nice wedding set including an engagement ring should I just purchase on line? I'm not very diamond savvy but I also don't want to get consumed with trying to research good diamonds. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would try to return it at Macy’s, if it is still within a reasonable timeframe. Even if you get store credit back, you can use it on other items within the store.

Regarding a new replacement e-ring and wedding band, online vendors provide a lot of options at competitive prices.

Please post your budget along with your vision for the set and we can help you find a replacement.

Hi Tippytoes that sucks! Sorry about your set. If you can't return the Macy's band you can try selling the band yourself on eBay, DiamondBistro, or LoupeTroop just take good precautions because some buyers are as shady as whoever told you your ring was only worth $50. I'm sure they would turn around and sell it for a lot more.

People who are better shoppers than I am will come with some advice about how to look online. You don't mention a target budget. I haven't shopped from them but Whiteflash is very popular on these boards, seems like they do not sell any duds and it is easy one stop shopping if you want to transact online. Good luck!

I think he was trying to low ball you. He just wanted to make more of a profit in selling it.
Although it is unlikely that you will receive retail price back but definitely more than $50!! That is stupidly low.

I think @SimoneDi has a great idea of trying to return it. Perhaps even for a gift card/In store credit if not a proper refund. That way even in the credit scenario it is not lost money.

I'd like to purchase a micropave wedding set. I would like stones on the engagement ring setting also and my center stone to be about 1/2 ct. My ring size is 6.5. My budge is $3500 - $5000. I prefer quality over size. Let me know what else you need to know to give me suggestions.

How about the best quality, size and under budget? Total $4,520. Leaves you more than enough to insure everything so you get a replacement if it's ever lost again. ;)2

Oh yeah, lifetime upgrade program. Simply spend $1 more and get FULL credit of your original stone towards a replacement stone.

WF ACA 0.747ct H VS2 @ $3,385

Thanks for this. I really like the diamond but will probably look elsewhere for the ring set. The prices on the rings seem to be a higher than I've seen elsewhere and if I get the whole set, it takes me over my budget. Although I would rather just order from one place. I will keep looking...thanks for the input.

I thought you had up to 5K for everything?

EDIT. You mean with the wedding band you are over budget? Most couples enjoy picking out the bands later, in case they prefer a matching set, or something else.

Sledge's picks don't include Tippytoes micropave ER setting but there may be another combo w/in budget

It includes the setting, but not the band. Looks like setting + band is around 2K, so stone needs to be under 3K.

This is 3,100 with wire, but might still be too much:

These are under 3K with wire transfer:

For the second one, make sure WF confirms its eye clean at a reasonable distance.

Thanks @lovedogs and @Matilda.

When I linked those suggestions earlier it had an e-ring setting but not a wedding band. I've learned you ladies tend to vary greatly on what you like as the band. Some want matching bands. Some like a plain band. Some like no band.

I'm of the opinion that a thin plain wedding band looks best. I like the fact it is supporting cast, gives a nice contrast with the pave and doesn't take away from the center stone. The fact you can grab one for a couple hundred bucks is icing on the cake.

But that's just a guys POV and I'm sure others think differently. This is one of the reasons I've hemhawed with my fiancee's own wedding band. Her e-ring looks so good without a band I think it's going to mess it up. Sometimes less is more.

Either way, there are countless options to go. If OP is okay with pave and not just micro pave even more options are there. Although cheaper I actually prefer the Benchmark pieces that Matilda linked.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
