I'm having a difficult time finding a diamond for an upcoming proposal. I'm looking for a 1.25 - 1.49 carat H VS2 princess cut w/ 3-4 chevrons, and want the best cut possible. Budget <$10,500 for stone only.

I went to a diamond broker (who also owns a cutting operation) in town and he is confident that the best I will find is 65% depth% and 65% table% for a princess cut. He says anything less is a compromise, regardless of AGS rating, branding, etc. Trouble is, we can't find anything close, so he offered to cut one for me custom at ~$10,000 per carat. Do you think I'm getting good information here?

I also went out on my own to the internet retailers and found a couple that caught my eye. Any thoughts on these? I got an ASET on the JA stone, but BN wouldn't provide one for their stone. So comparing apples to oranges... WF had some ideal stones but all with 2 chevrons and I'm not a fan of those. Too many choices

Thanks - I looked at Whiteflash's offerings previously and found that they only have stones with 2 chevrons, which aren't appealing to me. They sent me some videos with neutral background and lighting and I just wasn't a fan. They say that they are not expecting any new ideal princess cuts any time soon.

Sorry if I'm missing something super obvious (clearlly not a princess expert), but I'm not seeing the cut difference between the WF and JA you posted. Both look to have the same # of chevron's to me.

I like the look of the JA stone. It is showing a knot which a lot of people dont favor. I cant see it though. It looks to be a pretty stone with
nice faceting. The Aset looks decent too.

@lovedogs The WF stones were 2 chevron, the JA is 4.

BTW @Engr1835 I would go custom as a last resort. The look may not turn out the way you want
even though it is a 4 chevron. Let us look around a bit for you and see if we can find something.

10k per carat for a princess seems high to me.

LOl i just went through this.. good luck :)

In non round diamonds you should look also that the crown is not too shallow (below 8%) and not too heavy -above 15%

You might do better if you worked with someone like Jon at August Vintage. Just a thought.

Yes, Jon will help you find the best cut and performance for a princess cut.

I think a princess cut with 65 depth and 65 crown would be exceedingly rare and not necessarily the best performance.

I prefer the princess cuts with the higher crowns.

This one is deep but 2c. Princess cuts hide flaws well. This one is an SI1

Would be great to see the ASET.
The ASET you posted above is pretty nice IMO.
Have you watched the videos on youtube from Good Old Gold on princess cuts?

Good luck with your search!

Also, try BGD. Seems like they do not have suitable stones at the moment but often can look somenthing for you. They stick to 3 chevrons strictly.
