I'm a long-time lurker, first time poster. I'm assisting my sweet niece and her BF in their search for an emerald cut diamond. Details like cut, symmetry and depth are above our heads, and your assistance and knowledge would be appreciated so much.

The specifications are:
Shape: Emerald
Color: I or better
Carat: 1+
Clarity: VS 2 or better
Price: around $6000, max $6500

If I were your niece I would get the preloved ring below in a heartbeat! The price is a little above your max budget for the stone, but it includes a gorgeous, classic setting and the color and carat weight are significantly higher than your minimum specs. The stone looks absolutely stunning to me:

+1 to this - Leon Mege work is (as I understand it) top notch, and the extra size and bump in colour would not go unnoticed!! lol

Hi@LKcalornia It's fantastic reading your first post and congratulations to your niece and her partner on their recent engagement.

Regarding the cut style in general: Emerald cut diamonds are step cuts, which means they reflect the light differently than brilliant or mixed cuts. Instead of quick sparkle, the charm of a nicely made step-cut is long, elegant, fluid flashes of light. Since this charm derives from parallel lines the symmetry of the stone is very important. Symmetry at the high end of the scale is desirable, but be aware that lab-graded symmetry only addresses broad facet-shape and meet points, so photographs are also useful if you’re doing distance-analysis.

When selecting an emerald cut proportions of the stone dictate the aesthetic. The vast majority of Emeralds have the length to width ratios of between 1.30 and 1.50 with 1.40 usually considered as most popular. Those who prefer a more squared shape will opt for lower ratios while those after a more rectangular cut will choose higher ratios.

An emerald cut has larger facets than a brilliant, which are long and open, so higher clarity grades are often preferable. However, when looking at each individual stone there is no hard rule, as long as the diamond remains eye clean by your personal definition. Colour can also be exaggerated in this shape, but this may add to the perception of antique charm, so is also down to personal preference.

I hope this has been helpful and good luck with your quest.

SandyK, that's a magnificent stone, I agree. I think she's considering it.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this stone?

The video doesnt look that great but I think its the video and not necessarily the stone. Hard to tell without a better video.

Edit...I'm curious about the following. Ask if you can get aset images for it. Ask for an aset for the H/IF too.
