No, this time, it's not for me! I am hoping Gladys will be with me in a week or so, but I am helping out a friend who is on the hunt for an beautiful stone. Her husband has generously given her the opportunity for her 5th anniversary to upgrade her engagement ring and she is after something fabulous.

She lives in Australia but is happy to purchase from a trusted Pricescope vendor. She is looking for the following:
Round brilliant, minimum 1.7 carats
J colour or higher (preferably I if we can manage it), eye clean (preferably VS2 and above) and very sparkly (a good performer)
Budget is US$15k or lower (we have additional taxes that need to be paid on import). She would also be VERY interested if there are any good finds in the 2ct size, same specs, for under US$20k or maybe that's dreaming...

She plans (at this point) to either set it as a solitaire in yellow gold, or as a three stone with pear side stones. She is off to try on some different styles on Wednesday but those are the styles that speak to her at the moment.

Over to you guys. I have found her some likely candidates that look good HCA wise but you guys really are the experts here!

Thanks in advance :)

How about the preloved Brian Gavin Blue currently at JBEG?

And for the record I don't like the inclusions you can see in the centre of the table area in the stones that the previous person suggested. If you want a SI1 or even VS2 stones try and get one with inclusions off to the side or white ones that you don't see as obviously. Not everyone has eagle eye vision it's true but black in the centre area would drive me batty!!!!

Could that be a reflection up from the setting? I have that in my stone, but didn't have it till the latest reset in a platinum prong setting.

If a 2 carat is her dream, 20K is very doable. I got mine J VS2 with Hearts & Arrows for a little less than 20K. You just have to be patient and keep searching the database.

Phoenix just lowered her price to $20,000

Those would be a terrific buy if she wants a 2+ ct stone!!!

I think the BG Blue would be nice, too, but the price needs to be lower selling second hand. I'd offer lower than asking price on that one.

I thought the same about the JbEG stone, DS. I found comps that were a similar price on BGD.

That's a brilliant idea about Phoenix's stones - I shall let her know!

Any other options in the 1.7-2ct range?

I had the first one evaluated and I saw it myself set-- it is eye clean.

I thought about Phoenix's stones last night as well. Why don't you contact both and make offers on both, the stone at JBEG and either one from Phoenix. Either way she would get a stunning diamond....

O.K if the stone you have recommend is eye clean that is fine as well... having said that some people can see inclusions that others cannot so one person's version of "eye clean" is not always the same as another....

I have passed on the Phoenix options, thank you (I had already suggested the JbEG stone). I am leaving it up to her to make her mind up on what she might like to do. Trying on some styles will help with that!!
