Royal Jewels

And two ladies I'll always miss during State Banquets

Princess Micheal got such a hard time over that brooch for that pre-xmas family lunch when this one's wife married into the family , has HRH been cancelled ?
and poor Princess Alexandra is getting old
I beleave the Duke of Kent was there last night but it is hard to find photos .
did you see the clips that the DoG wore on the back of her outfit ? HRH delivered a masterclass in jewllery placement in the modern era, every other royal lady take note !
i did miss brooches last night

Princess Alexandra has been in poor health for some time. I believe she has osteoporosis or something. Prince Michael and the Princess simply retired from public engagements after his 80th birthday. We only see them at the really important ones and then it's visible that they both have mobility issues. Princess Michael also had a very bad Covid, which has additionally worsened her situation.

No, I haven't seen the Duchess of Gloucester from behind, but I read she wore the clips from the Art Deco bandeau. Maybe I should watch the coverage from the Banquet, alas today was a very busy day... I agree that the way she wore her jewelry was perfection, as usual.

Edit: I've now seen the Duchess of Gloucester and the clips! It's such an innovative way of wearing additional jewels, even if to a somehow questionable effect.

Last wee the Dutch royals attended a noble wedding in Austria. The bride's father is a close friend of the King and a couple of years ago they also attended the eldest daughter's wedding.

At the black tie reception we saw some of the Orange-Nassau gems. It seems that this time both Queen Maxima and the Princess of Orange opted for emeralds - Queen Maxima with her Tutti Frutti necklace and bracelet and a NEW pair of drop earrings, the Princess with the family emerald necklace and her mother's "old" pair of emerald drops:

With the bride and groom:

Earlier, the ceremony, the bride wore a tiara with an imperial provenance - it was originally a necklace given by Emperor Franz Joseph to his granddaughter Archduchess Elisabeth Franziska in 1912.

Who would've expected royal tiaras at the appointment of the new Prime Minister today at BP?!

If you're eagle eyed and zoom in a lot, you can spot the King and Queen of Sweden on the table on the left. Queen Silvia is wearing the enormous Braganza tiara and a diamond cross necklace. Next to them are the King's casually dressed uncle Bertil and his Welsh-born wife Lilian.

On the right we have his Belgian cousins in one of their first official portraits as King and Queen of the Belgians. Queen Mathilde is wearing the Greek key bandeau from the Nine Provinces tiara and Queen Fabiola's waterfall brooch.

There is another royal "present" and I'm tempted to say it's Daisy of Denmark, but the Pic is too small and blurry.

I've seen a video now and a somewhat better view of the mysterious portrait. I'm now confident that it's indeed Margrethe II, in fact it's one of the portraits taking during this sitting.
You'll notice the diamond bracelet/choker from Queen Louisa of Sweden (born Princess of the Netherlands) bating to the mid 19th century. Also the floral tiara, the Orange-Nassau twin brooches and floral earrings (I think from Queen Caroline Amelie, but it's way too late to check now)

Want a little treat for the weekend? Check out the section of the Danish royal website dedicated to the family jewels. There some well-known pieces, but also some that are rarely seen. I really hope that Queen Mary will dust them off and we'll enjoy some long-unseen sparkle!
(Yes, I couldn't resist and tried to find more information about the earrings in the above post, however, they are not featured)

Thinking of potential State Visits this autumn or next spring?

...still sore over no NZ visit though (but trying to be understanding with the King having cancer )
