Britain's King Charles III speaks with members of the El-Fahkri family, owner of the horse Asfoora, winner of the King Charles III Stakes (Group 1) during the trophy ceremony on the first day of the Royal Ascot horse racing meeting, in Ascot, west of London, on June 18, 2024.

Another new jewel at Ascot (at least one I haven't noticed before) is the King's antique diamond and blue enamel tie pin. I wonder who the mysterious A is? Queen Adelaide? Augusta, Duchess of Cambridge? A foreign relation?

i would hope the tie pin is A for Andrew, HM's other grandfather, Prince Philip was the only son in his family so that and the Tsar Boris pin may have come down via him [email protected]

i think i see pearls on the young princess
Princess Josephine, 13, the youngest daughter of King Frederik X (right) and Queen Mary of Denmark posed with Prince William (left) ahead of the England v Denmark match on Thursday

"A" tiepin? Surely Prince Albert? I can totally see Queen Victoria commissioning that pin.

actually i read another theory today

I believe HM's tie pin has the cypher of Grand Duke Alexander Nikolaevich that he used before becoming Tsar Alexander II - I've seen it on porcelain on Sotheby's website.

* (btw im Princess Daisy over there but i never pinch her pictures as i know she has to pay quite a lot for them )

Wrong monogram, though this was my second thought as well. The first was Queen Adelaide, of course.

I see the resemblance and the family connection makes sense, although the swirl (what's that even called?) above the A is different...

Another possibility is a certain Frederick Albert, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg, but I fail to see the family connection and the style is very different than late 18th c.

Yes, pearls and her Dagmar cross.

Royal Ascot, Day 4

Another day, another brooch debut - Camilla is surely turning into the new Queen of Brooches. In just 4 days she was worn 4 gorgeous ones heavily associated with her later mother-in-law. This time it was the Jardine star - a late Victorian star with collet-set diamonds between the rays. HM also wore one of the Cartier Quintet bracelets from Queen Elizabeth (QEQM) and her topaz pendant.

Did she not already get her ears pierced ages ago? Does anyone else find that a bit weird that she's only just doing so at this age?

i hope HRH didnt feel pressured into it
i was over 20 when i got mine done and i had no end of trouble with the piercings
I'd say her husband wants to buy her pretty earrings
the late Queen didnt get her ears pierced till i think her wedding probably because she got so many earrings in her presents (I could have that wrong and it could be her 21st or her corrination- im too tired to cheeck)
Princess Margret never got her's pierced just like Queen Camila has to wear clip ons
i know ladies who do not have pierced ears
my sister does not have pierced ears, neither did my mother

anyway great news about Princess Bea's pierced ears for us royal jewellery lovers
also check out this little sweetie

It was the Coronation for Elizabeth II, same for Queen Elizabeth. I guess they desperately wanted to wear Queen Victoria's diamond drop earrings!
I Denmark it's the other way around - the family earrings from the family collection have clips and neither Queen Ingrid, nor Queen Margrethe II, bothered piercimg their ears. In fact, it was Queen Ingrid who removed the posts and converted them to clips.

Yes, that doesn't surprise me too much that several older members of the various royal families don't have them pierced or got them pierced at an older age. I don't think my grandmothers had theirs pierced, as they both had jewelry boxes FULL of clip-ons. My mother didn't get hers pierced until she was 69, and then it was because she was preparing for her bucket-list dream trip to the UK and wanted to be able to wear the very most fashionable earrings while there. I'm just surprised that very young millennial and Gen Z members would wait that long, as at least here in the US, even back in the 70s and 80s when I was a girl, ALL the girls would have them pierced by their late teens at the very latest. I could be experiencing unconscious bias based on cultural differences between the US and Europe, though.

in the eighties when i was a teenager you could still get a lot of unpierced costume pieces at the accessory stands in dept stores , there was so much to choose from even if one didnt have pierced ears, i doubt that has been the case for the last 20 years at least -and there arnt even dept stores anymore :(
