By the way, the diamond in the video is the one that is listed here at $6299, correct?
It''s listed at that, but if you bankwire the money, that''s gets you the discount (6086). Bankwire is safe, I have done it as have many of us, in case you were wondering.

I have been trying to think of a way to show your gal a video of the stones without arousing suspician. Could you say you were just doing some homework online and just found the video? Since you said she has looked in stores, she obviously knows that eventually you will buy something, so doing homework would not be out of the ordinary, right? Just a thought! (aren''t they awesome??)

And yes, the BGD is gorgeous, no surprise there! Either of these vendors would get you a gorgeous ring, and they are great to work with.

That''s a great idea. I really want her to see the video because I know it definitely opened my eyes. That diamond is ''different'' and it still ''sparkles'' - the best of both worlds! And like I mentioned a couples posts ago, she even mentioned liking the emerald and princess cuts that a couple friends had.
That it is.

I want one SO bad!

I''d just say something like, "Hey, I was cruising the net and found this video, check it out". Then watch it with her and see what she says.

Sounds like she isn''t sure what she wants but really either the BG diamond or the GOG chunky cushion you can''t go wrong.

I think you''re exactly right ... and the more I think about it, the more I think the less I think of it as a bad thing. It gives me a little freedom to choose and perhaps make it more personal. Besides, I''ve got her thinking I don''t have any money saved up and the whole thing is at least a year away. She''s going to be so surprised either way!

She''s home today so I emailed her the link ... Well, the video wouldn''t work on her computer so all she could see was the still picture of it. However, she texted me back saying ...

"Unique! i love it :)"

and ...

"From what I can tell from the still picture, it looks gorgeous"

I''m just about sold ... My only concern, though, is how big it would appear on her finger. She''s a size 4 - is there any way to get an idea of how much of her finger that it would cover?

I'll try to round up some size visuals for you. But in the meantime, please call GOG and reserve the diamond. They can go in the blink of an eye, there are lurkers who wait for the "OK" on certain stones. It won't cost you anything, and that way you've got a couple days to think on it without worrying!

With a cushion? What I would do is first put the diamond on hold if you are interested as they are selling fast and maybe ask Jon if his daughter Sarah could model it for you on her hand, he will tell you her finger size so you have an idea and send you a photo possibly. Fancy shapes can vary in face up size which doesn't always translate to carat weight so this might be the best way.

ETA - I see Miss Ellen's on the job, she will come up with some good stuff for you!

That''s what I assumed.....may be wrong!

At any rate, here''s a round that is slightly smaller in diameter than the cushion, on a 3.75 finger. So proportionally, the cushion would look a lot like this (the cushion is slightly bigger, and her finger is just slightly bigger).

Good%20Pic%20Cropped.jpg

The pic comes from this thread.

And if you want to try and find more pics, this is the thread I found it in. It''s stones under 1 carat. You want to be looking at diameters, around 6mm. That''s what the cushion is facing up around.

And one thing to note. A really well cut diamond will actually appear a bit bigger, as it is so sparkly and flashy. She has tiny fingers, it would not be lacking at all.

Good stuff Miss!

Thanks so much! She likes settings with pave diamonds so that will help a little too, I assume.

Yes, it can, especially if you got a halo setting. And you''re welcome!

Thankies Lore!

I''ve got it reserved! So excited!

I still haven''t totally decided between that one and the BGD but atleast I have that one on hold. She''ll see the video tonight and I''ll be able to go from there as if I should keep it or not. And if she likes it, Sarah said they should be getting more in a week or two so I even have the option to choose a different if I see one I like more.

Is there anything else I should ask Sarah? I''ve got the images and GIA report but what else do I need to know??

Well, you've pretty much got all the info you need. You could ask if it's eyeclean. 99.9% of the time, a VS2 is, but occasionally one slips by that isn't. And make sure you are on the same page with that. If you just don't want to see anything face up (that is how they are graded), or if you don't want to see anything from any angle, let them know. They will be quite honest with you. And Sarah is young, so she has good eyes.

Other than that, I can't really think of anything, we've seen a video, so we know how it performs!

Are you thinking of getting the setting from GOG? Many local jewelers are not thrilled with setting a stone they didn't sell, but some will. However, GOG will cover it in the very unlikely event something happens during setting. i.e. chip, crack. Other jewelers most likely will not. So that's something to think about. GOG carries many designer lines, and they also do custom.

Thanks. I''ll get Sarah to confirm that it is "eye clean" ... BTW, I watched the video of the chunky cushion with her last night and she loved it! She likes that it is both an unusual shape, yet it still sparkles (as evident in the video). None of her friends have a cushion cut and I think that is appealing to her too. (Like I think I mentioned in an earlier post, she likes one of her friends emerald cuts but it doesn''t have that sparkle of the round cut that another friend has. This appears to have the best of both worlds) Just wondering, but do you think the sparkle, briliance, scintillation, etc was exaggerated any in the video? Would other cuts (ie an oval) appear like that under similar conditions?

In the mean time, I have a question about the setting. While my GF did not really know what diamond she wanted, she does appear to know the setting - the Tacori 2620. She wants something that is "simple." She wants a thin band with diamonds on it and she wants pave diamonds around the center stone. She''s liked this setting since she first saw it. Will this look good with the cushion cut (link below)? Is there a particular type of setting that looks better with a cushion?

The diamond :)

SO hard to judge the cut quality of ovals as you have discovered, so I would stick with the cushion as it is a known quantity. Also if you read AJ''s thread that Ellen linked, AJ is delighted with her cushion in all lighting conditions. Well cut ovals can be beautiful too but working from the virtual listings we have so little info on each and it can cost time and money to call them in.

Ha ha ... she emailed me some cushion cuts that she found this morning. Apparently she like the video!

The ring band is also called a shank and melee are the tiny diamonds running down the band that goes around her finger.

That''s a Daussi cut cushion that she found, looks like a video from Diamonds by Lauren. I shd know cuz I proposed my fiancee with one - she LOVES it!
But the Daussi has its own distinct personality and performs differently from the GoG signatures.

Seems to me she is still exploring...best to let her continue her exploration until something ''clicks''. A ring or a stone may ''speak'' to her...

So the Tacori 2620 should fit the bill, right?
