Author:The ring band is also called a shank and melee are the tiny diamonds running down the band that goes around her finger.

So the Tacori 2620 should fit the bill, right?
I believe GOG do carry Tacori so if thats the setting she likes check with Jon whether it can take a cushion ( I am not well up on settings) if so then yes.

Thanks. I'll get Sarah to confirm that it is 'eye clean' ... BTW, I watched the video of the chunky cushion with her last night and she loved it! She likes that it is both an unusual shape, yet it still sparkles (as evident in the video). None of her friends have a cushion cut and I think that is appealing to her too. (Like I think I mentioned in an earlier post, she likes one of her friends emerald cuts but it doesn't have that sparkle of the round cut that another friend has. This appears to have the best of both worlds) Just wondering, but do you think the sparkle, briliance, scintillation, etc was exaggerated any in the video? Would other cuts (ie an oval) appear like that under similar conditions?

In the mean time, I have a question about the setting. While my GF did not really know what diamond she wanted, she does appear to know the setting - the Tacori 2620. She wants something that is 'simple.' She wants a thin band with diamonds on it and she wants pave diamonds around the center stone. She's liked this setting since she first saw it. Will this look good with the cushion cut (link below)? Is there a particular type of setting that looks better with a cushion?

The diamond :)
Welcome!

As to the highlighted question, I asked a poster who had the fortunate experience of both viewing the videos and visiting GOG in person, to giver her thoughts on this. Here is her answer.

And the Tacori setting would look beautiful with that stone!! Bling.

If she's always liked that setting, I'd say that's the one to get her.

I really do think she would like this. As you said, none of her friends have cushions, hence, it's totally different. And, even if they did, you would be hard pressed to find a cushion that performs like this. These were specifically designed for light performance. I think it's a win/win!

(while a well cut oval can be very pretty, they are rather like needles in a haystack to find, and they still wouldn't add up to one of these cushions)

And can I just say again, I LOVE this stone!!

Here is another one that she found ...

Another One She Found
We are definitely getting somewhere now, that is what she likes is the cushion halo so with the scrummy GOG cushion + the Tacori setting that should make her very happy indeed!

Here''s the pic ... (A bit more than I can afford ... HA HA)

VERY nice!

Like I mentioned earlier, she wants the Tacori so it gets mailed off to California. However, are there any advantages to getting the setting done at GOG as opposed to my local jeweler?

YES. I touched on it, on the prior page.

"Are you thinking of getting the setting from GOG? Many local jewelers are not thrilled with setting a stone they didn''t sell, but some will. However, GOG will cover it in the very unlikely event something happens during setting. i.e. chip, crack. Other jewelers most likely will not. So that''s something to think about. GOG carries many designer lines, and they also do custom."

I seriously would have GOG set it. They carry the Tacori line, and will cover the stones expense should something bad happen. Unlikely, but still. Unless your jeweler will cover it, and I''m doubtful. Like I said, most won''t, because they didn''t sell you the diamond.

Hmm ... I would say to go with the oval. Ovals "face up" bigger than rounds, so for example a 1 ct oval will appear larger than a 1 ct round. A well cut oval will also perform (sparkle) very well. Even though I have an RB solitaire, one of my friends has an oval with pear sidestones that always gets tons of compliments. I also love ovals with half moon sidestones. Good luck!

I replied too early - didn''t read through all the posts.

I love the idea of the cushion in the halo - that is my favorite of the choices, and it''s going to be gorgeous!!!

I was able to go to GOG yesterday...specifically to view the chunky cushions! They are GORGEOUS! The videos are a great representation of how they perform in different lighting. I think your future fiancee will be VERY happy! Your stone set in a halo on her size 4 finger is going to be TO DIE FOR!!!

dt, any word from Sarah?

I''ll surely be asking more in the future (as well as posting a picture of the ring) but i just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for helping me out. Going into this, I didn''t know anything about diamonds, etc. Now, I feel like I know a lot more than just the 4 C''s. Your expertise and continuous help have been greatly appreciated. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

We are VERY glad to be of help to you and thank you for your very kind words!!

To think that I was just basically going into all of this blindly, kinda of scares me now. I was just going to buy a diamond based on what I saw in the store. I didn''t know what else went it to it, nor did I know all of the information available. Heck, I didn''t even go in considering a cushion cut and it looks like that is what I''ll be getting. I was skeptical of buying something like this online but my experiences with GOG, WF, and BGD has been amazing!

I can imagine. I did go into it blindly when I got engaged many moons ago, and subsequently with two pairs of studs. Then I found PS when I was looking for my upgrade, just stumbled upon it. After finding this very informative place, I NOW know what a diamond is really supposed to look like!
30.gif
I call this place the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
5.gif
(it's a real shame all jewelers won't/don't get with the program and offer well cut diamonds)

So all I can say is, I'M happy you found this place too. You and your girl are going to end up with a fantabulous ring, and I can gaurantee, it will knock everyones socks off.

And you are very welcome dt, it has truly been a pleasure. Nothing makes us happier than helping and making other people happy!

You guys are going to laugh at me but ... I was looking at the GOG site again and have a quick question: Which one would you prefer / recommend? They''re both chunky cushions and are essentially the same price but differ in size and color.

1.07 G VS1

1.63 CT L VS2

Personally, I would LOVE the 1.63, I think this cut is made for the lower colors (after looking at some of the ones that have been purchased by PSers) and I woud prefer the increase in milimeters. The photo you showed us that she said she liked was also a more elongated cushion as opposed to more square (like the 1.07) so she may prefer it as well...
30.gif

I love the size of the 1.63 and the color probably wouldnt bother me though it may bother some however, I dont like the shape as much
on the bigger stone. I dont like the cutlet that is long and rectangular. I prefer the cut on the other stone. I would really have to see it
in person to see if the cut annoyed me. The G is like a perfect shape

One has to really love warm stones, to easily embrace an L. I don''t know if your girl does, most likely she has no idea either. A cushion will show color more readily than a well cut round. So taking all that into consideration, plus the fact that you are going to halo this, which really does add size, on top of the fact that she only wears a size 4 to begin with, I say stick with the G. It''s perfect for this ring.
28.gif

I saw the L yesterday and it is lovely...a warm eggshell color, well suited to this Old Mine cut. It really depends on *your* preference. I personally prefer H or better. I also prefer the square shape to the rectangle, but that''s just me! If you''d rather have the rectangle shape, I think Charlie said they would prob have their next batch in by the end of the month (they will have to be sent off for grading after they get there, but maybe they can give you an idea if one would meet your specs.)

Ellen makes a good point...a 1.07 in a halo setting on her little size 4 finger is going to be AMAZING!

A GOG OMC in a tacori setting? OMG, I am absolutely DYING to see how this turns out!! It will be soooo gorgeous, you''re livin all of our dreams here, mister.

I say stick with the 1 ct. In a halo it will be plenty big on her little finger, and I think the whiter diamond will be stunning in that setting.

Thanks for all of the replies. This is such a great place to get differing viewpoints. With all of that being said, I''m going to stick with the 1.07 CT G. It was the first one I saw and actually said to myself "This is the one." I guess I just wanted a little reassurance (it''s a BIG purchase!)

One again, thank you all and I can''t wait to see what the finished product looks like! I''ll definitely post pictures!!

Yay! Can''t wait to see this!

This ring is definitely going to be a stunner!!! I agree with sticking to the G color if you''re going to halo it. When it is so close to other diamonds (in the halo) you will be able to see the warmth of the L color a lot more and it may bug your GF. I have an I color cushion in a halo and sometimes can detect the warmth (only because I know its there) but it doesn''t bother me but an L might.
