Hi everyone! looking for advice from diamond peeps. My budget is 4500-5000 for round diamond including setting. I'm leaning towards one of these settings:
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/platinum-thin-french-cut-pave-set-diamond-engagement-ring-item-2018 or http://www.ebay.com/itm/151889614876?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
http://www.ebay.com/itm/381513022576?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Both B2C jewels/ID jewelry seem to have good reputation and prices, any thoughts on either of those companies? The biggest question is any diamond suggestions? I'm thinking lots of sparkle, eye-clean, H-J color, 1.1-1.4 carat? Is that even possible to work with in that budget?

Would you be willing to forgo a diamond band and put more toward the stone? (One can always still have a diamond wedding ring )

I'm curious as well. Is this for you or someone else.

Have you seen lower colored stones in person.

Does it have to be in white metal?

This is for me. Mulling it over, I think I'd rather stick to the G-J color....or do you think it's worth it to go down to the K color? I have seen K's in person. And yes to white metals..

My diamonds are Ks and I don't regret it. I got the look I wanted, and in the price range I could afford.

However, the issue with your particular circumstance is that it will be, quite possibly, a noticeably different color to the melee

Thanks! Of course we on PS always have more photos ::). My budget was similar to yours actually. I had considered a soli a size you where considering, but I wanted to get the exact look I was after, rather than just a soli. So I can respect your decision to want to get the total look- diamond band and all lol

Niel - gorgeous ring! and love that you are a bargain hunter as I am also. The diamond you via the Ritani site is gorgeous...I'm setting up an account now so I can email them! I just worry about purchasing a diamond and a setting from 2 different places though...

There is added risk. You would have to insure the stone yourself while being set.

I'm still looking to see if we can't find you one all in one place, though.

I'm debating if I should purchase the james allen setting for now at the 15% off discount which ends tomorrow...or is that a pretty common discount? I hate to make purchases like that tho! Although I'm not crazy about those thick prongs

Don't make a hasty decision to save a few bucks. If you're not sure hold off. They have a sale every few months.

Go to blue Nile and look this number up

There would be two settings with diamonds in your budget from bn I nyour budget. I prefer the one with less diamonds, as I can't see enough of the other to get a good gauge

(You can get 100 off if you USD the "refer a friend" discount code)

I have some concerns about that one. Either its too thin, or all prongs, so I'm not sure how it would look irl.

I think the other, paired with a thin eternity wedding band, would be lovely.

People have had very good experiences buying on a budget with idj, but I'd go through them directly.

Do you have anyone near you that sells Gabriel NY?

They have a handful of settings under 1k, if that ritani stone is eye clean.

Oh well that would be nice maybe you could actually see a handful in person first before deciding.

When you're looking through their site, when you click on the setting, just make sure it says the head is interchangeable

Based on the cert I suspect this could be eye clean. Email them, ask them to reserve it while they get you photos to confirm

You'll have to get your setting elsewhere

Niel - (or anyone else) what do you think? Here's the diamond picture sent from Ritani: https://www.ritani.com/diamonds/round-diamond-1-10-Carat-J-color-GIA-certified/D-F36SJJ?search_key=D-F36SJJ

Here is what I think.

That stone is eye clean, ideal proportions, and 4k.
You want to get a nice, diamond band, this will be money.
This meets your criteria and with enough money that allows you to get the setting you want too.

Is it a branded h&a? No. But I think it would be worth sacrificing a fairly negligible cut quality. Get it home, go to the store that sells Gabriel NY, and plop if into a few settings (you can afford) and see if you like it. I've returned stuff to ritani before, it wasn't a hassle at all.

Eta: tell them the stone is an heirloom so they don't talk it down

Thanks Niel - You've been incredibly helpful! I also emailed ID jewelry as I'm still hoping to purchase a diamond & setting from the same place. This is the GIA cert he sent me...I plugged the #'s into the HCA calculator and it scored a 1. Pretty close in price to the Ritani. Thanks to the power of technology, he sent me 2 videos: one of bezel milgrain setting (ebay link from my first post) and then a gorgeous pave band video as well - not sure how to post videos as the pricescope website says extension mov is not allowed..
