New Setting for original ring. 8B6F3BCB-4EDA-4F0F-A7C6-F992433F7501.jpeg

First, let me say thank you to everyone here for ALL input. Wether or not I agreed with you, your advice was considered and helped me make a decision!

After tons of drama, and back and forth I have made a final decision!

Turns out my issue with the yogo sapphire and diamond ring was simply the setting. I hated it. So I’m not changing a thing except the setting.
I love the ring itself and don’t want to change anything else.

I’ve also let go of my weird attachment to my wedding band. I used to think I had to wear it all the time.

So, I’m going to get my ring reset and buy a very nice diamond band to go with it, and that will be my special occasion, nice set.
When I’m working, I’ll wear my stack.
In the meantime, I’d like some help with the diamond band. I’d like something that is 3mm in width, round cut 1/2 carat diamonds, NOT eternity, and NOT channel set. I really like that look of a wider diamond band, but don’t want to get carried away. I’m getting overwhelmed in the clarity, and color specs, and not sure where to put the most emphasis. I’d like to keep it under $1500.

Are you thinking of a 5 stone, 7 stone? Half eternity, 3/4 eternity maybe?

Do you have any inspiration sets in mind?

Maybe 7 stone, half eternity would be good, 3/4 eternity might be better...

This one is my favorite! A4C2DF82-A898-466A-9089-12ED07FFDF0A.jpeg

I’m confused. What do you mean by saying you love your ring, are not changing a thing but then you say you are swapping out the setting? That’s a complete change.

The ring is going to look exactly the same, except the metal head of the setting. The head of the old setting was really weird. It looked like a cheap thin piece of metal, and had holes all around it. The new one will be a thicker, solid piece. The diamonds and yogo will all be transferred from the old setting, and reset exactly the same way into the new one.
I broke it last week, and it’s not fixable, so that’s why the reset.

Got it. In your other thread you had posted a Stuller double halo setting. Does that mean you aren’t going with that one?

Correct.
Although I still haven’t heard back from the jeweler with a quote. I’m getting kind of anxious and nervous. I really miss my ring! Lol!

Very pretty Yogo. I like your stackers too.
I would wait until you get your ring re-done before deciding what band you like with it. The 7 stone band would be pretty but I worry the diamonds might scratch up your ering.

Thank you!
I too worry about how a diamond band will wear. Definitely want to do lots of looking and trying on.

Can you share your reset cad or pic with us?

This is the reset I want, but it’s not done yet.

UPDATE:

So, the jeweler called on Monday, and the price of the reset is twice what my hubby paid for the ring. My husband was NOT thrilled with that, and said he could buy me a bigger, nicer ring for the price of the reset. But, I told him that it was what the ring represents, and that I don't want a different ring. So, I should have a CAD in the next week, and it will take about 4 weeks from there to get the ring back.
I truly feel like I'm nuts paying that kind of money for a reset, but at the same time I don't really care. The price I was given, was pretty close to what I thought it would cost, so I have budgeted for that.
I have decided to go with Blue Nile for the diamond band I will be getting to go with my ring once it is reset. There's a few I like there, but I can't decide which one. Plus I need to get all the dimensions and what not on the new ring to make sure they both end up fitting well together.
This will be my first time shopping with Blue Nile. Any advice, suggestions, etc.?

UPDATE:

I’m pretty sure my husband will never buy me a piece of jewelry again.
Today he expressed how unhappy he was with the whole situation... the cost of the reset ($1600) the fact that the jeweler not only has my ring, but an $800 deposit, and that in the end it won’t be the ring he gave me. I emailed the jeweler and told him we need to find a better solution, but who knows what the options are, or if my deposit is refundable.
This jeweler is on the PriceScope list, so I figured it was a good reputable one, but my husband is convinced I’m being taken to the cleaners.
He now wishes he’d never bought me the ring. Ugh. :cry2:

How about backing up to where he offered to go a new route with a different ring? I’d take some time to cool off with all of this. Find out what the choices are with the jeweler and just take a literal time out and a breather. He obviously likes to buy you jewelry. It sounds like he’s frustrated, and I can understand that.

You’re right, a breather and a time out are needed.
I’m just incredibly sad given the sentiment behind the ring.

I would just be honest with him and tell him you’re upset that he’s upset and this is not the direction you wanted.

I'm sorry you are going through this! I understand his frustration but what about your happiness?...It seems like you are doing everything to make HIM happy and it could be at the cost of YOUR happiness. Great quality jewelry is very expensive ~ as the saying goes "you get what you pay for" Your yogo is beautiful and deserves a setting worth it's beauty.
If this ring is causing problems like this maybe it is best to put it in a drawer and re-think what you want to do with it or you can wear it on a chain around your neck if you really want to wear it in the meantime.
Jewelry is supposed to make you happy! Good luck with what ever you decide.

Thank you! I completely agree that you get what you pay for, and it seems I have expensive taste. Lol!
I am a bit shocked at the $1600 reset price though. But I was willing to pay it to keep the ring damage free and beautiful.
But yes, maybe the best option is to put it away for a while.

Is he upset mostly about the cost? If so, how about doing the Stuller setting instead?

Yes, the cost is a big part of it.
But he’s just really frustrated with the whole thing, a lot of which is my fault.
Long story.
He also just feels like it won’t be the ring he gave me if I change it, which I can sympathize with.
How would the Stuller setting be cheaper?

This Stuller halo (just the mounting, final cost would be higher with setting fee, etc.) is $297 in 14k white gold. I priced it for a 4.4 mm center stone, FYI. This is just an example, of course, but I'm sure you could do something similar for less than $1600 all in.

This one is closer to the style you posted; same base price.

I think maybe I have no idea what I’m doing. Lol!
I was under the impression from the jeweler that I couldn’t pick an already made setting, and had to go custom, which I’m guessing is why the cost is so high.

You're doing fine. There's just a lot of information and options to sort through! o_O

If your local jeweler doesn't want to offer Stuller, you could always inquire about sending your yogo and melee to a reputable vendor/bench somewhere else. There are many; one example is Erica: http://www.loveaffairdiamonds.com/settings-from-stuller-inc/

Is the labor of removing all the stones (which are quite small), and putting them in a new setting, what’s costing so much?

Absolutely! That is why many suggested you just get a new setting altogether. Not cost effective to remove and set melee

Would you consider preowned?

I see!
I am looking at Stuller settings now, and there are several that very closely resemble what I already have.
But my worry is that the center stone is too small to fit an already made setting.
