Ring/earrings/jewelry under $1000? OEC

My boyfriend has said that he would like to buy me jewelry for Christmas. His budget is about $800, but he may increase that a bit if I find something I really like that's slightly over budget, especially since our anniversary is right after Christmas so he could combine the gifts. So overall, I'm trying to keep it around 800, but if I find something I love that's over a $1000, he may be able to swing it. I love OEC/antique diamonds. I'd really like a ring that has an OEC or antique cushion, but I don't want it to look like an engagement ring (hoping to get one of those later ;) ), and I'm not sure if something like that is feasible within the budget. I'm also open to necklaces or earrings. Can anyone give me any suggestions? I know there might not be much out there in my budget, especially since OECs seem to have shot up in price lately, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks :)

You might keep an eye out on DiamondBistro and Loupetroop for things. The main trouble with things like this (I also like a lot of antique things) is having to make snap decisions a lot and that's not easy to do with one off antique items. You might also check MyDiamondZone on Ebay. They are based in Chicago and often have repro settings with stones in them for sale.

HEre is the link for DiamondZone - http://stores.ebay.com/MyDiamondZone?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 I've been to their offices twice and have seen their pieces in person. I also have 2 threads in the SMTB forum that you can search by my name - shows a LOT of their lovelies!! Highly recommend them and if you don't see something on the site you can always call/email Ilya and ask him for something specific. He has a lot of loose stones that he could pop into a setting for you.

Alternatively, try www.antiqueengagementrings.com - Leigh Jay Nacht - out of NYC. Been there as well!! lots of beauties and fantastic repro settings!

I've been obsessed with this for a while. Its 550.

I think that's a fine budget for something beautiful!

I got this for within that budget, it definitely doesn't look like an ering, lol.

You can also find things at Jewels By Erica Grace, though the $1K budget is sometimes a bit of a stretch...you might have better luck with earrings in that budget.

I'm trying to suggest places to you where a guy would be comfortable looking, since if your guy is anything like my hubby, he is not likely to comb eBay hunting for bizarre antique items. He generally leaves the more obscure searching to me since those are often the snap decision items.

Thank you guys for all your help! I really appreciate it! I've looked at some of the links/suggestions, and will continue to look!

I have looked at JBEG (like everyday!) and I think that's a little out of budget, but I will definitely be sending the bf there when the time is right.

I did find this ring (attached) which I really like. I'm a little concerned it looks like an e-ring, but I think I could get away with it since it's champagne colored and I would wear it on my right hand. It's a little darker (warmer?) than I first thought I wanted, but I figured I can leave the lighter colored OEC for my eventual e-ring. I do like the warmer colors (LOVE L and M color) but I imagine this a Q or R or maybe even darker? What do you guys think?

I'm new, but in my humble opinion, I would opt for earrings or a necklace at that price point. I think any ring will look like an e-ring and that may be uncomfortable for your boyfriend (or for you having to explain). If you choose studs or a solitaire pendant and go to a place with a good upgrade policy, maybe you get another $800 budget next year and can grow your baubles.

Thanks for the advice! I am still considering earrings/a necklace. I do really love the ring though. I'm not so concerned about my boyfriend thinking I want him to buy me an e-ring, as we're on the same page there, and if he thought that it looked too much like an e-ring he would just come out and tell me. We're pretty open about stuff like that. I am concerned about others thinking that, but I figured as long as I wear it on my right hand it wouldn't be a big issue.

well one dont worry what other people think ;))

and two, sense i know you wont listen to one (no one does  ) maybe wear it on your right hand middle finger? Most people dont think it an e ing as soon as they see it on your right hand, but right hand middle? they'll think its an heirloom or something

Not sure if its still going but Ruby lane is having a 50% off thing and there were dinner rings super similar to this for good prices.

Okay, so I found this one on JBEG and I love it! Not sure if it looks to much like a wedding ring though? I would wear it on my right hand:

If you guys say it looks too much like a wedding ring, I'll probably opt for the earrings posted above ^.

Thanks!

Oh my, that looks lovely. I think you can wear that on your right hand just fine, IMO.

Gypsy, I love looking at all the goodies you find when you go digging.
You can really find some great stuff.

Thanks! And thanks for all the links you posted. I'm still considering everything, and will show my boyfriend a few options. But I was thinking the 5 stone ring would be a good option, as I might be able to stack with an engagement ring one day! :). But I can still wear it as a RHR now. I just love old cuts!

No kidding! Wow!

I showed the boyfriend, and he liked the ring I liked. Just trying to find out from Grace whether it's a one of a kind ring, or mass produced, so we know if we have to order it now. Either way, hopefully this baby will be mine by Christmas!

Neil, where's the ring you posted from?
