Sorry I confused you @gregchang35 I didn't try Jenny Bay as I don't think they specialise in resizing platinum and your experience with them has been with white gold. I'm worried about getting it done, so will just stick to wearing the ring with other rings to keep it in place, if I can't find anyone who is experienced in doing it with no mark. Just thought I might be able to find someone to do it while I was in Sydney, but seems like I might have to wait a bit longer.

He did my engagement ring many moons ago :) I do recommend him.

My most recent ring was done by Jackson Tait. Two young guys who do great work for a great price.

thanks monipod I have reached out to these guys and have been dealing with Luke who has been super helpful and lovely so far.

Awesome!! Luke did my ring and he's amazing. Very patient and can-do. They are also very receptive to recycling gold and stones if you have any spare stuff lying around.

Hi everyone

I am looking for someone who may be able to assist in setting an 8ct Aquamarine I have purchased.

I can’t afford a super expensive setting would like to keep it under $700USD

I am in Australia and they conversion against the USD is very poor.

I am wondering if any PS peeps can recommend someone in Australia? Not sure how many fellow Aussies may be on here?

thanks

I know @mellowyellowgirl has gone shopping and found some gorgeous stock settings, but not sure whereabouts in Australia she lives.

Thanks for the recs in here, particularly @gregchang35. I'm dipping my toe back in and was looking for a bench in Perth for some simple resizing/setting. Now I have heaps :).

Joondalup- diamond club
Mt Lawley- Matusik
High end- Nordhorff in high gate.
North PERTH- only started following on insta- near rosemount hotel. Can’t find name at the moment. More silver stuff but have seen some gold work.

May be hijacking a tad here but looking for my fiancé and my wedding bands and we are in Perth. Would you recommend the same places for her band/s (possibly looking at bookend) and where would you recommend for a mens ring? I was looking at a design that had a few small diamonds around it and was quoted $5000, however having seen a couple of mens rings with a featured diamond such as yours in another page my curiosity was peaked. How much should I budget to get a diamond worth featuring in a mens ring? I assume buying from the USA from a place such as White flash would be the way to go? The comes questions re cut etc. As you can tell i'm rather green in this field. Thanks

Hi Moonie,

Yes, i would recommend the above places to explore your options, in perth.

For bigger diamonds, you have to do your research locally and internationally.
When i had my 1ct asscher solitaire made, (which is what i think you are referring to), it cost me AUD $7k in 2010ish, and i dealt with a vendor in sydney- Joey from Jenny Bay. I would not know how much it would be these days, as 11yrs is a long time. But, i think it woudl be safe to say that it is definitely over the AUD$10k mark.

I have no hesitation of recommending her again for your ring needs. Everything is done online/ phonecalls/ CADS etc. It really depends on how you feel about doing a project online/ sight unseen.

Do your sums. biggest thing to consider is that buying internationally, say USA, means that there are GST and exchange rates, need to be factored in, in some cases up to 17% more than the listed USA pricing that has been converted to AUD. Once again, this is managing a project sight unseen, so to speak. However, having seen BGD ideal cuts, they are stunning and would not get that kind of cut here in Perth. Do you need ideal? maybe, maybe not. But knowing what i know, i would not hesitate in working with vendors in USA.

As a comparison for pricing that i did, over 2yrs ago for small stud earrings (0.1ct each), it was far cheaper to get them from USA and pay the taxes, than to source one locally. It cost me close to AUD$1000, compared to Perth pricing of $1200. And, i truly believe the ideal cut taht i got from BGD, is something that i have not seen here. it just sparkles more. Would it matter to the layperson, for seomthing so tiny.. probably not.. But i got a family picture with a camera over 2m away, and these small earrings sparkled.

WF has a reasonably good upgrade policy. but from what i read on here High Performance diamonds have a better upgrade policy. Why upgrade? well. some ppl like their bling, and you can only afford what you can now. in a few years/decade, your partner may want bigger or deserves bigger and you can afford more????

Try to start another thread to get the good ppl on here to guide you.
in doing so, you will need to have a greater understadning of a nubmer of things, and in no particular order:
1) budget
2) clarity
3) colour- white or lower coloured.
4) carat
5) cut- the shape- round, square etc.
6) cut- ideal- brilliance/ sparkle that the stone gives you. Rounds- use HCA tool here, and imaging that is provided is the ideal scope. AUS vendors are not to familiar, even though Garry , a Melbournian desgined the HCA tool. Fancy shapes need ASET images. Garry Cut nut, has a store with these imaging tools, taht you can buy and take it to the stores to see how the cut perfoms. IT is quite overwhelming to learn, but PS folks like their stones to eek out the max light return. But it may not be improtnat to you, then that is ok.:)

Spend time in a jeweler to knwo what you guys like.
that is what i did. i went to several stores - mazzacheli, michael hill called the brick and mortar (B&M) stores; to get the understanding of the diamond world. then i went to a jeweler to see the size that i want.. they had a bigger selection of size compared to the BM stores. IT took some time. And, once i knew what my tolerances are - the non negotiables (eg-for my asscher- high colour, higher clarity, 1ct sizing) then it was a little easier. This was all just at the time i discovered PS, but had already engaged Joey.

It is all fun learning. but also time consuming to learn.

Hoep taht helps.

Thank you so much for the response, definitely given me some direction. I will do some more research, try and get some more ideas in my mind and then as you suggested start a new thread.

Hey gregchang35,

Thought I would share my end product. Didn't end up going for a feature diamond but over the moon with the ring I ended up with. We went to Nordhoff couldn't recommend them highly enough 20210512_225840.jpg

Awesome set!

what is that main stone/ it looks argyle champagne or argyle pink? Can’t really tell.

You need to give more deets!!! You are on price scope!!! Lolololol.
The brushed/ textured look is spot on! Well executed design.

Yes - Samantha and Clint are amazing! Sam definitely has an eye for details. Beautifully crafted jewelry.

Very true haha

They are two round brilliant Champagne diamonds, surrounded by black diamonds. I can't remember if they are argyle, I was distracted by how well the ring came together!

Thanks again, both of us are over the moon, wouldn't have found them without your input.
