Ring and Setting from Good Old Gold?

Hi,

Has anyone purchased a custom designed ring and got the setting done from good old gold? I reserved the diamond that I wanted and they said they could custom something that I want from LM or SK.

I know there are quite a few people who have gotten their GOG stones set at GOG. I think you'll receive more responses if you have this thread moved to Rocky Talky. Hit the "Report Concern" button on the top right hand corner and request for one of the mods to send it over there. :))
 
I helped my SIL pick out a stone and had it set by GOG. I had originally wanted to go with SK but Sandy happened and things got complicated. The setting is beautiful but I thought VC's workmanship was better (I have a VC halo) but GOG's was also much cheaper than VC. I guess you get what you pay though that's not to say GOG is bad just VC is better. I'm sure most people outside PS would notice the difference.

Anyway here's some pictures. Hope it helps.

I assume you mean most people outside of PS WOULDN'T notice the difference? The workmanship looks excellent, but yes, you do have to pay very dearly for master craftsmanship like VC or LM or RGD. The amount of labor they put into their products must be massive.

I do too! May have to inquire about it? Badabling, was it custom made or was it a stock setting?

It was a custom setting and yes ii like it too just wish the split prong was a little more wider and maybe slightly bigger stones in the halo....all vey minor details. The prongs are really delicate.

Btw the AVC is GOG setting and AVR is VC setting....didn't clarify in the previous post.
 
perhaps get quotes from all 3? I know price is not the only factor but it is important. That advice was given to me when I was doing my search and it was good because for me SK/ERD/MH were all similar! So knowing the kind of work SK does, then the fact it was not more expensive, was a no brainer for me! Before getting the quotes I thought ERD out of those (as not handmade) would be cheaper and they were not which was quite a big factor for me! Could not get a quote from LM as he only wanted to do it by telephone and I am in the UK and VC would have been great but nearly $1000 more than SK which I could not justify! :wink2:
 
I think the GOG ring looks really great! It looks a lot like a Beverley K setting to me. I really think they nailed the size of the diamonds in the setting. And I must add, I love the picture with both an AVR and AVC!

I would get quotes from GOG and SK.
 
I think both are very beautiful and not having seen a VC in person, I would not think anything less of the GOG setting. My personal preference echoes yours as I would also like to have the split shank go down a little further.

Was the GOG handforged like VC or did they provide a CAD if it wasn't (to address the split and halo melee size)
Did GOG also use single cuts like your VC? How would you compare the quality between the melee stones?

Given GOG's rep here I wouldn't hesitate to use them for a custom piece...however I would only choose something that I've seen them make before as I don't want their bench to be experimenting with a new setting. I think that's why people gravitate to VC/SK/LM as they sent the benchmark on certain styles shown here.
