I haven't quite pulled the trigger, but wanted your thoughts on this BG Blue stone.

Before that my criteria:
Budget 18-22k
Cut: ideal
Clarity: vs2+
Colir: j+ (prefer I)
Carat: Around 2.5 (gf preference for a big stone)
This will go in a Halo setting.

Here is the BG Blue on hold https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...2.228-j-vs1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104102612058

The price is right, but it's a bit small and a J color. I like the fact that it has Fluor without any haziness

Am I compromising too much or is the difference not going to be noticeable? The BG blues are in rare supply so it's hard resist, but I don't want to end up with a stone that is a compromise as opposed to exactly what I want. :wall:

A very nice stone if your ok with the J color.

Larger stones will definitely show color more easily. Have you seen one in person?

The BG Blue series is an economical way to get to that carat size, if you're okay with the strong blue fluorescence.

Always a fan of BG Blues. I bought my wife a K with medium blue fluorescence and it is very white face up with a slight tint when looking from the side, but face up, it looks whiter than a Non-super ideal GIA XXX G coloured stone my wife has.

The stone you’ve reserved is an absolute stunner.

Bmfang do you happen to have any pictures?

I think that J and Blue will give a magnificent diamond that does not show yellow.
Just be aware to ask that they will match the Halo ring side diamonds color to the center diamond.
This will insure the J will be acceptable. If you put a J next to FG colored the center will look darker and raise questions.

I have a 2.566 carat J colored BG blue, and I absolutely love my stone. I will be honest though, I can see some tint from the side. If I had to do it all over again, I would like to get an H colored stone. But as you already know, BG blues are in short supply, so sometimes you have to jump on them when they get them.

As others noted, the angles and proportions of the stone look fantastic! I am on my mobile so apologize in advance if technology or lack thereof is causing an issue but I didn't see the IdealScope, arrows or actual ASET images. Also while they never post the hearts images on their site, you can ask Lesley and they will provide for you.

BGD is well known for their cutting expertise, so I doubt it changes the fact this appears to be a killer stone; however, I would like to see the data if I were you.

Do you happen to know the color sensitivity of your SO? Just curious if budget or actual color recon got you to the point of an I/J color minimum?

I ask because I bought my fiancee a BGD Blue stone. In her case it was an H VS2 with MBF. Most of the time it appears very white but we both occassionally see a little tint. Part of that is because her setting allows great visibility of the body/pavilion portion of the stone which is where you normally see tint. The other reason is she is very color sensitive, even moreso, than me but I was unaware of just how sensitive until after I proposed. On the good side, she is also color tolerant meaning while she can see the tint, it does not bother her. However, it drives me a bit wonky as my intentions were for her to see NO tint.

I'm not sure if you are having BGD set your stone, or getting a setting elsewhere but because of my own experiences I would suggest having them ship the stone to you loose for visual inspection prior to setting. If the color is unacceptable you can reject and start the process over fairly easy. If all is good roll on with everything. When you get the stone be sure to check in an array of various lighting conditions. It's been our experience the MBF is not noticeable until a UV black light is present.

Good idea to have the idea adjusted to match the center stone perfectly. I would be very clear and insistent about this fact with whomever does the setting. Also picking a setting that covers more of the pavilion will prevent the most vulnerable area to color from being exposed.

Great feedback everyone. I'm leaving towards letting this one go, mostly due to size and a little due to color.
I know it will be a brilliant diamond though

I haven’t got a comparison shot handy on my phone, but my wife and I have compared her non ideal GIA XXX G coloured stone with her K coloured BG Blue in sunlight and we both notice the difference.

In terms of what the K looks like in sunlight from above and from profile, I do have pics of it (along with two I coloured BG Signature stones set as martini studs). The K coloured stone is obviously the one set in the solitaire ring.
