So, it's Sunday and I'm drooling over an item....
5 Diamonds ranging from 3.6mm to 4.7mm, and estimated weight of 0.68cttw.
What should I offer?

Edited to Add: they'll need a Georgian silver reset. Current setting is scrap.

Color? Clarity? Metal?

Seller doesn't have expertise in color or clarity and doesn't even know the cut. The metal is white gold, huge and ugly. The photo is cropped to show the stones, as they are the only part I'm interested in.

I love lower color diamonds. I think I can see some yellow tint on one of them. I'd reset them in Georgian style silver, with a rose gold band.

I could easily replace "rose" with "rose cut" and it would still make sense.
This was the Yeats poem recited from memory by my Grandfather at my first wedding, and "In the Deeps of My Heart" was engraved inside my first wedding ring. I guess it's a theme with me.

Update: Never mind. They're mine now.
All I need at this point is to buy a ruined castle.

Heck yes!

Hahah yes indeed... #DreamHome

And here they are.
This is before cleaning, and they're a little crusty! Yikes.

Sparkly.

Impossible to capture the pink flashes.

Gallery view, I might put the setting up on LT in case anyone likes it. It's heavy!

Ooh at those high domes. They look great! You’re collet setting them right? In a ring or something else?

Yep, it'll be a ring something like this:

Not sure which PS vendor I'll ask to do it, though.

Ooh that’s beautiful. DK obviously springs to mind.. but Shanadams on Etsy does a lot of collet set CZ - she does lovely work?

Pretty stones! Looking forward to seeing the new ring.

I looked at her stuff but she doesn't set customers' stones, according to her FAQ page.

It will be a few weeks before I can start this project but I'll post updates. I'm super excited and relieved that they are as nice in person as they looked online. In the meantime I'll keep them safe. The setting is... how shall I put it.... uh, interesting? I'm sure it was beloved though.

I love rosecuts, what a find!
By the way, I actually like that setting, can picture it with colored stones. .. so please let us (that means me:Up_to_something2:) know if you decide to list it!

I’m so glad you say that because I will list it for sure. The “surround” is intact and can be easily customized by a jeweler but the prongs holding the rose cuts had been mounted crooked. I’ll share a pic asap.

Removed from the “surround” and temporarily wired into place on an 18k scrap band. This will let me wear it until I can decide on a PS vendor to make the silver setting. This is fun!!05793119-6DEE-4234-8714-D811E557D646.jpeg 485A24D3-0080-4F9A-AD7E-C23A3FB19364.jpeg BFE0BD85-7A4E-4B77-8DC8-B72BA183ADCE.jpeg

As you can see I was extremely careful not to damage the surround when removing the center prongs. They really were not well mounted but the rest of the setting is clearly made with love. You might put *much* bigger stones into the space, that is, if you’re still interested. If not I totally understand.

Thank you for the photos! What's the metal?

And, +1 on the vote for David Klass. He can do anything, I love his work. I know he will do silver too. I saw this on his IG, not exactly what you are planning, but gorgeous20180930_132841.png

That is *stunning* and I think DK might be perfect for this small job. I’ll email next week.

Thank you so much for positive feedback! I never wish to offend anyone as I follow the beat of my own drum, y’know?

The metal is stamped 14k and does not react to my neodymium magnet, but before listing I’ll take it to the local antique jewelry shop in my town to have it machine tested for sure. No surprises. Don’t ya hate those? Sheesh. I had to return a little ring recently as it was magnetic and marked 18k. Not falling for that trick! Ha!

I have tastes that run toward the art nouveau and deco eras, not everyone's cup of tea, but I like what I like.
DK is working on a new ring for me right now, I'm actually going to LA anyway, so I'm picking it up in person. Super excited!
Go ahead and email, get the ball rolling even if you aren't ready to commit yet. Let them do a cad for you. They don't charge for them in advance like some places. I don't own any of his rose gold, but I've read people really like the color of his( for your shanks).
Can't wait to see this finished!

I love the look of this already! Where did you find this treasure, if you don't mind me asking! Such a great find. I even like the look of the scrap band they are on, but they will look lovely in a georgian style too. =)2

Thank you! I can’t wait to wear it as a finished ring.
I’m not quite ready to share the shop I bought it from because I wouldn’t want anyone to scoop up some other items I’m eyeing this week, but I promise I will share a link soon.
:-)

Can you share how you wired them in place? That looks like a really cool way to wear stones in a temporary setting!

Totally understand! Can't wait to see the result :)

I’m sorry that happened to your grandmothers ring
Thank you, KK. I’m thinking of having my Great-Grandmother’s band remade by DK, I don’t think it would cost much because it is so slim, but yes my Grandmother’s ring is toast. The 5 holes in the band are where the diamonds were set, so there’s no repairing it, I don’t think.
Ah, well, chin up. We must move on.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment :-)
