My original engagement ring has been lost forever (long story) and now it's time to find a replacement.
The value of my original ring was mostly in the sentiment, as it had a center stone that was uncertified but appraised as a K/SI1 approx 1.25ct, cut unknown. The setting was a platinum 3 stone. With the value of the 2 side stones, I am left with about $4k plus taxes to spend on a replacement ring.
I have narrowed it down to a couple options. One thing I would like to do this time around is get a setting that is a little more detailed than a plain platinum trellis style 3 stone. When I chose my engagement ring, I thought classic and plain would be the best choice but I am realizing that the little details just mean a lot to me, be it in a very vintage style ring like tacori or beverley K, or something more sleek and modern like a ritani.
Additionally, I really did not notice any color from my K, ever, so I am open to and really would prefer a lower color stone, perhaps set in rose gold. I am struggling with whether I can go down in size and still be happy since I am coming from the finger coverage of a roughly 7mm center with 4mm sides. I think I could with a halo or a more generous shape like an oval or even a pear, so long as they were really well cut.
So, in summary:
Overall budget $4k for setting and stone
size preference: roughly 6mm across, either in a halo or in a stone with an elongated shape like a pear or oval
design preference: heavily detailed vintage OR very sleek contemporary with pave or other detailing
My finger size is roughly 5. Preference would be given to a setting that would sit with a regular wedding band and not gap widely or need a custom shape that would look silly worn alone.
I have found a couple stones at Ritani that I have requested a gemologist review on. I do really like that they will make 2 rings at no obligation to me, and send them locally, so that I can see the shapes and actual diamond in person on my hand before deciding. That may be the tipping point for going with them.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a really special stone or setting that I may have overlooked in this total price range? Some of you guys are magicians with finding these things so I didn't think it would hurt to ask. Budget could possibly be bumped up to $5k if necessary to get the perfect lifetime ring.
