Reading an ASET

Hi all,

I am maybe in the market for an upgrade, so I am checking out some diamonds. I don't know a lot about ASETs, well nothing really apart from what it says on the AGS cert about brightness, contrast etc.

Anyways just wondering if any more experienced people might have anything to say about these two ASETs? Would either stone leap out as a better looking diamond? or is it impossible to tell from just the ASET?

Thanks in advance!

Those are both computer generated maps. From what I understand, they are generally not too far off from a real ASET, but just be aware that what you are looking at is not an actual (live) ASET. Do you have measurements and angles for the stones you can post?

Both of those are computer generated.

Second ASET is not the best judge of MRB.

Third those are from AGS. What was the grade for light return/cut on the stone? That is the most important thing. If they both get O for light return, then you are good. AGS 0 trumps HCA.

Third if you want something to confirm or to determine which stone is better between the two, what you want is an idealscope. +

Thanks bastecat and Gypsy for your speedy replies!

They are both from Brian Gavin, one is a Signature Ideal and one is a Blue. I never realised that they were computer generated - doh!

They both get AGS0. There is an ASET for one up from Brian but not the other yet. I know they will both be beautiful.

I will post the angles:

For some reason which is probably not based in any real-life experience, I like the angles on diamond 2 better. I think from memory they line up more with the classic ideal cut angles set? or am I off-base? anyway I know that they will both be gorgeous, and I used to think people were crazy for splitting hairs like this, until it became MY money that's being spent! ha ha

Oh and I forgot the IS for Diamond 1. They haven't got this info up yet for the other one:

BG cuts gorgeous stones. I think you just have to decide which one fits your desires best because performance won't be an issue. (I have one of his Blues and it's a fabulous stone.)

I tend to like shorter lower halves (like diamond one), but diamond 2 homes in on my personal proportion preferences for modern stones. You might just call them and see if they can pull the two stones for you and give you a run down of what they think of them.

That's a great idea Bcat! After all they are ont he ground so to speak.

Yes it's all a hard decision. This is for my 50th and I'm torn between upgrading my three stone from BGD into a larger solitaire, or just resetting the center and making earrings. Or maybe getting something completely different. The size gal in me seems to always want to go bigger!

Yeah- I hear ya! :loopy:

I totally agree with Baset's advice. Call BGD and ask them to pull both and recommend one, or talk to you about both.

They'll be happy to do it. :wavey:

Congratulations on your 50th!

Thanks Bcat and Gypsy - good advice. I don't want to bother them until I'm fairly certain.

And thanks Gypsy for your wishes for my 50th. It's a bit of a milestone. Feeling age creeping up but hopefully getting wiser and more at ease with life. It's all a tradeoff.

I will be sure to post when I make up my mind!
