Re-CUT? It is a round with a "good" cut

Hi everyone!

I am new here and have been reading and reading and reading some more over the past few months. My soon to be fiance has been hinting on an engagement this fall and he sent me this recent tease via text. Mind you he was briefed on the understanding that a diamond is an investment via my father and his uncle. Mind you I will be excited no matter the size but am a bit concerned about the cut of the diamond. Will it dull the diamond and if so any suggestions on the best setting for a round? Should I consider recutting? Is it worth it? Note that the following is a teaser or at least he thinks so. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Tell him from what you have seen online he needs to look at ideal or excellent cut stones.
Tell him thay you want the most sparkly stone there is and its all about the cut.

The table on that stone is rather large.

If you can point him to the HCA tool. He can enter the numbers from the stone and see how
well it does.

You could also ask him to stick with AGS000 stones that have already been evaluated for
Excellent light return.

I'm not sure how much you can get away with telling/asking him before you take the
fun out of it for him. (Really depends on your boyfriend.)

Good cut on a GIA report means bad cut.
Even their Excellent cut grade is too wide and lets in some dogs.

A better way to find a well cut round is this bulletproof 2-step process.

1. HCA
2. Idealscope

Plug 4 numbers from the GIA report into the HCA https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

Reject rounds scoring over 2.0.

Get an Idealscope image for rounds scoring under 2.0. https://www.pricescope.com/tools/ideal-scope

Compare it to this chart.

This guarantees a superbly-cut diamond but may reject a few that experts with years of experience may not have rejected.
But so what.
You and I are not experts with years of experience.

Well I gently told him that a good cut in GIA terms means not so good. He hasnt finished paying for the ring but I fear the man may have shown him something more ideal but he is selling him something different. Or maybe the seller keeps polishing up the stone so that it can give off more brilliance?

I am no expert but the percentages and cut are a questionable investment. May I ask what you mean by large girdle? Would a certain setting help?

Thank you so much! I will poiny him to the tool. I really like the description about red being ideal and also looking for the 8 points. He doesnt have all the specs... pavillion etc... So the tool is not likely to assist right now. Again many many thanks for providing your insights!!!

All in all should this diamond be re-cut? I am unable to obtain the other specs to plug into the tool to see if the diamond rates above a 2.0. Any suggestions?
