Thanks for your input, Alienor

. Both urologists told us that they didn''t recommend surgery for a man over 70 and DH is 71; however, if the prostate becomes inflamed and he can''t pass urine, I''m pretty sure that surgery would be the only choice.

Both his PSA level and the bladder scan are scheduled for tomorrow. Of course, we''ll have to wait for about two weeks for the results of both.

Thanks for sharing your dad''s experience. When I read some of the men''s comments in the Healing Well forum, the biggest concern involves sexual performance no matter what the age. I doubt that the women in their lives are so concerned - more than likely they just want a cancer-free partner.

Lots of positive dust for your hubby!!

I am surprised that they are making you wait so long for the results. PSA results should be done within a day or two max. Are they making you wait two weeks so they can review the results with you at an appointment?

For sexual performance, I think all treatments do have their side effects. My dad do take Cialis for "some help" due to the radiation treatment. Yes, most wifes do not care about the sexual aspect if it means a cancer-free hubby. I do agree. Health is more important than anything else.

The problem with his bladder not fully emptying is possibly due to the inflamed prostate. My dad had the same thing, he let it happened till he couldn''t pee at all and almost his kidneys as a result. He had the surgery and was able to relieve himself fully. By the way, I remember that for the surgery they removed part of his prostate that was blocking his urethra not everything. The inflamed prostate can also be due to other things and may not need surgery. :)

I am glad your doctor is proposing the watchful approach. My dad''s doctor mentioned to him that prostate cancer is a slow progressing cancer and that most men die of natural causes.

Keep us updated of your husband results!

Ps: I may be giving too much information but I know I liked details when my dad was going through this. Let me know if it is TMI.

No, it''s definitely not TMI at all. I appreciate all the feedback- especially that from personal experience.

Yes, you''re right that the PSA will be ready in about three days, but the bladder ultrasound results take longer and will definitely require a consult with the urologist. The wait on that one will be about two weeks.
