Hi, I have been searching diamonds locally for months, but I live in an isolated area where there is little choice for jewellers. We rely largely on chain stores to buy jewellry and so far all that I have been able to see is highly priced and not the quality that I hope to get. I finally have a setting picked out, and I want a radiant cut for the center diamond, 1 carat, and it needs to be square. We are hoping to find a diamond in the ballpark of $5000 - $6000 that is eye clean, white and has great sparkle of course! We have been looking at online vendors, I have done alot of research but I am nervous about purchasing a diamond unseen. I am skeptical of return policies, things getting "lost" in the mail etc. that I can't seem to bring myself to take the plunge online for such alot of money. May sound crazy to many of you but I keep remembering the old saying, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. And some of the diamond prices I am seeing on such sites as eternity diamonds, mdc diamonds, brillance.com sound too good to be true for the GIA paperwork that comes with them, when I compare to the prices I am getting from local jewelry stores. I don't want to be buying diamonds, then returning them because we are not satisfied. That being said, we are planning a trip to NYC in early Dec. and while we are there we are hoping to bring home a diamond. Does anyone have any advice on where we shoukd look? What stores? Eternity Diamonds and MDC are some I have come across online where you can make a viewing appointment. Any thoughts on these or any others come to mind? We are really hoping to find the perfect diamond soon! thanks so much for any help that anyone can give me!!

Hey Kitty,
I was just in NYC and visited with 3 PS vendors who were wonderful to meet in person and extremely helpful!! If you are interested in meeting anyone in particular, just call them up and let them know what you are looking for and to block off some time to spend with you. They can show you all sorts of setting/diamond options (maybe the radiant is a starting point... but who knows where you'll end up!?! ) and the advantage is you are a PSer and you may be pleasantly surprised with how your day goes!!

I met with David of www.diamondsbylauren.com and have a thread on that here:

Please consider this for your list- it is so drool worthy trying all of these beauties on in person!!! --- plus he does have a lot of radiant diamonds! ;)) )

Here is my thread on visiting with Yekutiel and Luann and IDJ:

I did also visit Leigh Jay Nacht (www.antiqueengagementrings.com) but I did not put up a thread because it was only at the last minute I remembered to bring out my camera!!! (D-OH!)

All 3 were wonderful! I loved meeting them in person and felt so honoured to be able to 'play' with the beautiful things I see on the internet, and try my diamond 'on' in settings!!

Hope that is helpful!

Enerchi gave you great advice!

I'd also make an appointment with GOG if you don't mind taking LIRR to Long Island.

thanks for the advice. Does my price range sound reasonable or am I out to lunch to think I can get a nice diamond for that price?

5-6000 is plenty for 1 ct
