R Colored AVC & Rose Gold - How warm is too warm?

Hey all,

Just want to get some opinions on AVC warmth. I was going to head into GOG to check out a 1.46 ct J colored AVC, but somebody snagged it up on PriceScope within hours of my posting a question about it. I didn't have it reserved just yet.

R in color which is way lower than I'd ever normally look at, but it has strong blue florescence. It actually doesn't seem that yellow in the pics. How do you guys think this would look in a rose gold halo?

You're really going to have to see it to decide for yourself, see if he can pop it on top of a rose gold setting so you can see in photos/video? Mara had a lovely S-T OEC in a rose gold bezel that I think looked pretty rockin', but I am 1) not all that color sensitive, 2) blinded by the bling, so lower colors are an afterthought.

I think a more champagne color stone will be gorgeous in rose gold! I'd love to have something like that for a second ring, but I am not sure I'd do it for my only e-ring. I don't know what your budget is, but I am returning these two stones today which are L and M color and just gorgeous! I think both are priced at $12k+. (I am hopefully getting an AVR but just wanted to see these for future wishlists!)

For me, a warmer stone would be ideal! I love that idea that an older (or one cut to look older) has a more 'antique' colouring to it. I think in the RG it would look amazing. Not everyone wants the icy white in platinum, but it also would depend on your skin colouring too. Maybe it won't work - maybe it will. You'd have to see it in person and as DS says, have GOG pop it into a RG setting to get a better idea of what you love and don't love.

If it were me ---- I'd be all over that like bees to honey!!!

I think you really have to see the stone yourself to make the call. I wear an O-P OMC in a rose gold setting, and I absolutely adore it. But, that's me! You never know until you see it, I say.

I would personally prefer a Q-R or ST stone over a middle color stone, but would need to see it in person to judge "the one".

This is a beautiful stone, but I would strongly suggest that you see it in person. I have a K AVC and think the color is just perfect for me. However, it is noticeably warm in the right light (late afternoon is our "warm" hour and I love the personality that this gives my stone!) and this stone also has strong blue flor. I have compared my K to a few Js (a cushion, an OMC, and MRB) and not noticed much difference in color. This is my engagement ring stone and it was important to me that the stone not look too far off in color from the colorless range.

However, I also have AVC studs which are L & M colors respectively. Again, ridiculously beautiful stones, but these guys are easy to spot as being of the warmer variety. If you are comfortable with warmth, I think this stone is a winner. But it is going to be quite different in color than the J stone you originally wanted. As far as the rose gold, I can't imagine a better color for a warm stone. I think that warm stones in rose gold settings are AMAZING.

I personally love haven's lower color in rose gold and wouldn't hesitate to do an R in rose gold. But you'll be able to see it in person and decide for yourself

One is a 1.79 L VVS2 (the squarish one) and 1.91 M VS1 (more elongated, almost oval). I can give you the links if you want them. They are both gorgeous and I honestly would buy one of them (or a larger one if I had the $$) if I weren't in the midst of trying to buy an AVR. Their cut (shape and appearance) is among the best of the stones they have, in my opinion.

An L in a well cut stone can face up pretty white...the size of DS's 1.79 sounds really nice and large face up...like a 2c cushion. i would go for this stone if it is in your budget. 7.1x7.2mm I think it would be awesome in rose gold.

You have to go by diameter to compare two squarish stones. The AVC is wider than 7.2mm diagonally I am sure!

Because the stones were put on hold for me, I can't see the prices online at the moment. As far as I recall, they were both in the $12,000-12,999 range. I just don't remember the exact prices.

I don't mind some warmth in a diamond (I actually prefer it in the AVC's) but IMO that particular L-colored stone had a slightly "lemony" tint to it and it was too yellow for me. Not just "warm", but almost like a very pale citrine.

The 1.79 L is absolutely a beautiful diamond! But it wasn't right for ME.

How do you mean it stands out, Haven? That the RG is more unique and its more obvious than YG or WG/Plat? Or does the RG bring out more of the pastels in the OMC? I'm just curious....

I don't mean anything academic like that! I just mean that people notice this ring constantly, and that it stands out as unusual, and therefore it doesn't signal ENGAGEMENT RING! quite as universally as your more typical type of ring.

I wore my original modern cushion set in a platinum eternity band for four years, and I thought people noticed that ring quite often. But there is no comparison to my current ring--I get a lot of questions about it, a lot of people who want closer looks. I don't think it's to everyone's taste, though. It is a very different look than your typical e-ring.

Haha, no deep thoughts here.

I teach college and I've noticed that the younger ladies are often surprised that I wear this ring as my engagement ring. They seem to think that anything other than WG or plat with an RB or a princess is a very strange and unusual choice. They ooh and aaah, but I think your average twenty-something has a picture in her mind of what an engagement ring is, and RG with an antique stone isn't it. That's the only reason I think this is going to be a risky choice if the OP doesn't know his beloved's ring preferences. (*I* think the ring would be stunning, but I'm not the one who matters!)

Most people can't seem to tell that my stone is a lower color, though. I've had several people say, "It's so white!" which always makes me chuckle.
