Hi all - I need your opinions! For a simple, diamond bezel-set necklace (yellow gold, diamond size around .25ct), would you do a fixed bezel or one that slides? I've had both in the past and want to know what those of you who own and wear these a lot think.

thanks!

I have a bezel set .39pts diamond in plat on an adjustable slider. I prefer it to having a bail or ‘ears’.

slide for sure. i'd hate to be constantly readjusting

I prefer it fixed to a chain. It allows a thinner bezel. I quite like it when it rides up my neck - just means I have sparkle there instead!

Great point! Who do you recommend for a pre-set one like this? I don't need to pick my own stone for something this small and I'm trying to make it affordable. Thanks!

The only one I have is from Tiffany so I'm sure someone else can recommend somewhere else where you get more for your money!

I should also add that if I did the fixed bezel, I don't want it to poke my neck. I have a DBTY and they poke my neck a little.

Love the Tiffany version!

I'm also looking for a new everyday necklace so I considered getting a new RG DBTY from Tiffany. But ultimately I decided I wanted to go with whiteflash - I'm getting a 3 prong martini set pendant which is fixed to the chain (once Ive saved up!). It still gives that "floating look". IMO you can get away with a smaller diamond with a bezel but the marti setting stole my heart - the diamond truly floats

ETA: Once I decided on the martini setting I had to double my budget to get the look I want!

Ooooh I can't wait to see yours! I'm getting pricing on one from WF now too (bezel set). I better keep my sights set on the bezel so I don't have to double my budget LOL! :-)

I recently switched to a fixed pendant vs. sliding and have been surprised at how great it is. I had always heard that you have to be ready to readjust/re-center a fixed pendant all the time and that it'll move up your neck but 1) it hasn't moved anywhere near as much as my sliding pendant did, and 2) I don't feel it at all on my neck. I'd vote fixed =)2. As for vendor, I'd get quotes from Whiteflash, HPD, IDJ, and BG. Give them your desired specs and budget and see what they come back with. *If you might want to upgrade in the future, stick with Whiteflash and HPD.

Thank you! I really had my heart set on the fixed type but have been worried about flipping/moving. I appreciate your input!

If you're not sure, I'd invest $50 and buy one of each in the style/length you're considering from Amazon using cheap CZ's. This is the fixed one I bought to try it out - http://a.co/d/ejpfdZX. It has an adjustable chain from 16"-18" so you can play with the length you like too.

That's a great idea. Thank you!

Fixed. A sliding pendant reminds me too much of the eighties. :lol-2: Just have the base deep enough so there is no flipping. Mine is a four prong basket.

I have both fixed and sliding diamond pendants - and I have been thinking about getting the sliding turned into a fixed. When I wear the sliding pendant, I'm always hearing my husband say to me " Your clasp is in the front" - so I'm constantly playing with the necklace, checking to see where the clasp is.
I find the fixed more comfortable to wear and the necklace stays in place very nicely.

I like both. I mostly have fixed diamond pendants and I do like that the chain doesn’t turn around. I can’t stand when the clasp moves its way to the front. But that can be solved by having a heavier clasp (I’ve even some with little chains with stones to weigh the clasp down so it stays in the back).
But I also like that with a slide you can change out the chain for a different color or length.
I originally wanted my DK pendant to be a slide so I could change the chain from white to rose gold, but he made it fixed and added a loop so I could extend it from 16 to 18 inches. The problem with that is when it’s 18 inches it’s lopsided bc the pendant is not perfect in the middle anymore. I loved it enough to just keep it though.

Thank you! What size stone is in your fixed pendant?

I hate when the clasp works around to the front too! I guess each style has it drawbacks. I don't plan to change out the chain, so I think a fixed might be my best bet. Thanks for commenting!

I'm looking at a couple of different fixed pendants. One just has the bezel around the stone and is open on back so the culet sticks out a little past the bezel. The other is this one where the bezel is a little deeper. It seems like one like this might be more comfy??

You’ll find varying opinions. I believe that most with an open/thin bezel quickly get used to feeling a culet now and then. I really don’t think there’s a wrong choice - just a matter of preference.

Thanks. I have a DBTY with open bezels/culets and they poke me a little but I think my neck is overly sensitive to that (and there are multiple stones). And I don't wear the necklace enough to get used to feeling them. It's not a deal breaker for me either way, but if the one in the pic above would be more comfy, I'd likely go that route.
