Diamond studs that is! ;))

SETTINGS - I'm starting to do some research on studs and I had a couple of questions for all stud owners out there! I recently went thru every page of the the stud thread and I am still undecided on which setting I want. For those that own martini studs, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you like or don't like. From what I can tell from pics, I like that martini settings make the diamond appear more round as opposed to the 4 prong basket which squares off the stone a bit. However, my concern is...how much do martinis nestle into the ear? Do they still sit above the lobe in its martini basket or does the setting become unnoticeable from the side shot? I'm afraid that they are going to nestle too far into the lobe and have little ear presence from side angles because it is close to flush with my lobe. I hope that is not the case. I was looking at BGD's martini's versus handmade martini's and I'm wondering if the handmade gives the setting a little more presence. I like the price of the non-handmade better though, so I'm hoping that those who own them can help me out with any setting advice, please advise!

My E-ring is an I VS1, my three stone ring is G SI1. I'm debating on considering up to J in color for studs to get a larger carat weight. I will most likely go with BGD so the stones are all going to be well cut. For anyone who has owned J's in studs, is it easy to notice the warmer color on the ear? I should be safe with a J right? I am most likely going to go for SI1 stones as I am not sensitive to inclusions in smaller stones (roughly 1.0 ctw)

Any and all advice or pics are much appreciated!!!

I love my martini's; I bought them from BGD. I would ask Lesley if she can take a picture for you of the handmade ones. I know some people have complained about the stock martini's making your holes bigger but I never had that problem; I don't put them in super tight. I like the look of martini's. Here is some info on stud settings https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-to-do-with-my-2-ctw-martini-studs.159806/#post-2903796#p2903796 and this thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/cocktail-hour-2-16-tcw-studs-reset-into-8-prong-martinis.133892/

Mine are the BGD 3 prong martini setting, with J's .43 and .44, VS2/SI1. I have had them in since the end of hte summer --- and they only come out for a cleaning! they are VERY comfortable and I have no issues with my holes enlarging or drooping. I love them and they look just as white as I need for my ears!

I also have BGD J studs and find them to be plenty white on the ears.

Skippy, thanks! I have your thread with your upgraded studs saved. They look great on you! I'm in process of checking out those threads you linked too! Bliss's thread has a lot of great info! Any advice on backings - friction or la pousette (sp?) I don't want screw settings! They hurt my ears. But I do want them to be quite secure with the new baby on the way!

Enerchi, so glad to hear you are happy with your J's! Do you have the handmade martini's or the stock ones from BGD? Do you find that they get lost at all from a side view or is the setting still visible?

SLG, thank you! Glad to hear you are happy with your J's! I think I am comfortable going that route too! I'd like to get as high a carat weight I can and I know going to a J color should help a little.

I'd love to hear feedback on earring backs too! I do not want screw on ones, but I do want secure backings. Friction or la pousette (sp?)?

Mine were the stock settings (also because they were less expensive!) and I had them made in WG. I don't think they get lost on a profile - but I can't see myself so I am relying on what DD and DH said, and they can tell I'm wearing them well enough - there is still a 'stand out' of the martini setting. Not sure if that is the reassurance you are looking for but they are beautiful ( to me!) and I went w the BGD signature cut stones, so they do face whiter than what a non-signature J may appear. I spent time emailing with Jamie and then talking to Denise on the phone - both were VERY helpful! Ask them anything - they'll send you photos till your server crashes your inbox! hahaha

I also don't push them 'right up tight', but leave them just after the notch on the post. I have the regular tension backs. I did not go screw posts or the poussette backing and I'm not at all worried about losing them. But... they are not huge at .43 and .44 so maybe larger stones would be more of an issue.

Good luck! Sounds exciting!

On the earns Js are fine! All you see is white light return, you can't really see body color from the normal viewing distance!

I like regular friction backs the best, and you usually can upgrade to larger size backs which helps studs not droop and you don't have to push them in as tightly (which might make your ear hole expand with martinis). I have the standard 4 prong baskets and you really can't even see the prongs, for what it's worth. They look 100% round on the ears because what you see is a round ball reflecting light.

DS, I just went and checked out your new studs and watch thread! Lovely pieces! To be honest, I am leaning towards going with the 4 prong basket. For some reason, up close I can't seem to get used to the three prong look. I like it from a distance but up close, I am having a hard time getting used to it. Your prongs came out beautifully from WF. Did you ask for more claw like prongs, or did they just do them that way?

DD, thanks for weighing in on the J's! I don't think I have any reason to worry then.

Enerchi, thanks again! Yours do look very white to me, so I think the J's will be just fine! Thanks for the feedback on the martini's too!

Thanks! Well, I have to say that I like things symmetrical and I just prefer and even number of prongs on anything. WF does a great job on the prongs. I have some vague recollection of asking them to make a slight point to the prongs, but I am not sure. They are tiny prong tips regardless and mostly rounded.
