Question regarding Rose Gold

Hi all! We are expecting our first baby in August and my husband asked that I give him some ideas for a "push present." Since we are having a girl, I thought it would be fun to do a ring in rose gold with her name engraved on the inside. I decided to check out Brian Gavin Diamonds since I have seen so many of his gorgeous creations on here... The only issue -- he's in Texas and I'm in MN! He has gorgeous photos of his rings on the website but when it comes to rose gold, some of the pictures show a stronger rosy tone and others show a faded pink tone. I absolutely want to make sure that I get the more faded pink tone, so I thought I'd toss this out to the PS community to see if you have any advice on purchasing rose gold without seeing it in person...

As you can see, the main picture of it definitely has more of a copper/faded pink tone. But then the other pictures look more rosy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! :loopy:
 
I don't have any experience with BGD but I have been told that 14k rose gold will be more pink in color while the 18k has more copper tint.

Regardless it is a lovely ring!! And congrats on expecting. My daughter was born last October and let me tell you little girls are so much more fun to dress then little boys :)) !! Congrats again!

As for copper versus pink -- would you describe copper as more RED then? Because if that's the case, I'd prefer the pink over the copper... Which would mean 14 over 18 then, I suppose?!
 
My 18K rose gold ring is more coppery than pink, but I definitely wouldn't call coppery red. It's copper-colored, think of a very clean, very light penny.

I wear a 14K rose gold twist band with my ring, and the 14K is definitely more pink. I think it's a matter of personal preference, but I much prefer the 18K to the 14K. It looks a bit more subdued, and more fitting for a high quality piece of jewelry, IMO. I also think it looks better on my skin tone. :cheeky:

Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family.

I would think that for a deposit the vendor could send you samples of the metal to view. I would try asking. Some of these metal alloys can vary quite a bit in color, depending on the other elements being combined with the gold. I've seen some 14k rose gold that looked distinctly orange, rather than pink.
 
I like Flygirl's suggestion - see if the vendor could send you a sample of the gold compound and you can see it on your skin in your own environment. I understand that even if you select 14k vs 18k (or vice versa) the vendors have different suppliers and the formulation can change ... IIRC... there have been PSers who have had that experience.

and congratulations on your new baby girl - maybe both baby and ring will arrive at the same time!
 
First, congratulations on your baby girl! I really like Fly girl's suggestion about the vendor sending you samples to see for yourself. Just curious, have you checked local jewelers/antique shops for antique rose gold? The color is quite different from modern rose gold (not sure why), but my local jeweler showed me some rose gold pieces from the 1950's and the current rose gold. The rose gold from the '50's was very a nice color.
