question on Halo design

I have been designing a ring for my girlfriend with Leon and have essentially finished but got a little stuck on two details. We ended up going with a Harry Winston-type solitare with the halo angled down with minimum metal. The diamond is an antique cushion-type 2.62 H VS1 that is fairly rectangular (8.9 x 7.6), which she prefers in that setting. The issue is that the HW micropave ring has a larger gallery with straight stems as does a few on here that I liked, although it is hard to tell from pictures. I like it because it adds a bit of visual weight below the diamond and she doesnt seem to like the visual effect of a having a cone coming up from her finger with the diamond high - if that makes sense. Leon was a bit against this as he felt a larger gallery with straight stems would look less elegant. He said he would work with it but cautioned me. I was just curious if people had opinions on this design element before everything is set in stone, so to speak...

Leon wasnt so thrilled by the second one as he thought it would have a thick band (we are going with 1.7, although I like a little thicker) and wasnt as elegant. I didnt think so and thought some of this (such as the impression of a thick band) might be an effect of the picture, which to me is very pretty for what it is worth...

I think you may prefer more linear (for lack of a better word) looking settings, and your gf prefers more fluid and feminine designs. I also like more linear designs, so I like the ring in the second photo you posted, and I also like the 3 stone that you linked to. link

But most women these days seem to like very dainty and feminine settings. Leon has a good eye for balance, especially with large stones, and your gf seems to have a definite preference, so I'd defer to them at this point, unless you're worried about durability issues with the other style of setting.

I get stopped ALL the time, everywhere, about how delicate and elegant my ring is. The pictures really don''t do it justice, but I get mad compliments all the time. It is really dainty and all diamond--hardly any metal showing. Its very unique and not a design most people see everyday. I think the angled (cone-like) stems are more common. I personally was not a huge fan of that, but it all comes down to personal preference.

Thanks for the input. I do tend to like liinear things and felt I had a good senes of what would look best, however, Leon''s response concerned me somewhat as he told me a cautionary story that on occasion he has made rings for people who were highly specific and did not follow his recommendations and ended up not liking the rings - wouldnt want that. Anybody prefer the more curved stems?

I think that if you want to work with Leon you should let him craft you a ring and not try to manage his design. He is the master, trust his vision. OR else work with a different vendor.
