Does anyone know a reputable place I can purchase a diamond online in Canadian Funds? Or do you think it''s better to always purchase from a local jeweller? I figured I could get a better price online from a wholesaler like the Diamond Exchane, Toronto or something like that but I fear getting jipped - any thoughts/opinions? Thanks, Lori

Do you want to purchase it from an internet dealer in Toronto or is anywhere in Canada ok? There is one dealer whom I've heard of as decent here in Vancouver. He's called Davidson Designs and has a selection of H&A rings...something which I find very rare in B&M stores.

One thing I like about buying online is that the prices are generally less expensive and you can scrutinize the numbers of the diamond. Going to a local B&M store the benefits there are you get to see the diamond (which is very important) and depending on where you go, you can get better service in terms of post sale treatment (they'll clean your ring every so often, etc.). I chose route #1 and went with Good Old Gold down in NY. Great service, better price.

I think that site is in US dollars?

Thanks for the info. Basically I want to consider buying online as an option and was wondering about any reputable sites that sell in Canadian Funds, but you know I really do want to be able to see the diamond so I'm thinking that maybe online is not the best idea as I might feel more secure actually seeing my purchase first. Thanks for the advice!

I just purchased my diamond from a site that is based in Canada.
The site is www.diamondwholesalecorporation.com.
I spoke with Pat, his number is 905-773-1500.
I think you will be very pleased

Hi there, I know your question was posted in August, but I was looking through the site and read your post. If you are still looking check out Diacan.com. They are based in Toronto and prices are in CND$$. The prices look very good. Good Luck.

Hi,

I live in Canada, and this place is pretty reputable..

It breaks down what I did and may be an option for you. All the prices are there and I think I saved at least over $1000 by buying online and bringing the diamond across the border myself. Just another confusing option for you!

I actually did end up purchasing from Diacan.com, we bought a .70 princess cut diamond, D colour, VS1 clarity - very good everthing - 5.00 X 4.99 almost a perfect square, laser inscribed for basically half the appraisal cost - amazing deal - diamond is spectacular I love it - I highly recommend DIACAN.com to anyone!

Do you get to see the diamond before you buy with Diacan? I live in the TO area and I''d like to see it first. I''m also wondering about USAcert...how does it work if it''s in US dollars. What exactly do you have to pay besides exchange rate and provincial tax?

USACerted is located in North Toronto. You can see stones at that location. They can quote you prices in Cdn $. If you tell them what you''re interested in, they can bring in some stones for you to look at and compare side by side.

i am from canada and the best place i have found and wont get ripped off is Independant jewellers in Alberta and you can purchase online. They have really good deals

zdrastvootya...have you dealt with USCerted before? Are prices that much cheaper if I go here than if I go to a jeweller in say downtown TO? Thanks.

I''ve dealt with USACerted and was quite pleased with the result.

I believe prices are on par with diamondexchange.ca, for example. Heard a co-worker went to diamond exchange and was quite pleased. They have an appointment-only location in one of the Financial district towers.

There''s a bunch of small jewellers in a building across from the Eaton Centre where, I suspect, you can get cheaper but I think you need to be knowledgeable to avoid buying lower quality stones. USACerted & diamondexchange seem to be a little more upscale.

I had gone to Birks to look - it''s definitely a high end store, with a premium on the prices. With less upscale chain and mall jewelry stores, you need to watch for the quality of the stones.

You can do a search for "Toronto" or "Birks" or look for my previous postings to try and get more info. Good luck!

Emailed Martin...he hooked my up with his man Victor. I''ve only talked to him over the phone, but he answered all my questions and assured me I''d be getting a qualilty stone. Already, I have so much trust in Victor, but I haven''t seen the diamond yet. I''ll be looking at it this week. I can''t believe the price he gave me...the same stone at my local jeweller was almost $1000 more! I''ll let you guys know if I buy the rock.

I went with Diamond Exchange for my fiancée''s ring back in October, and it came out great!! If you''re near downtown Toronto I really recommend that you check them out. Shaun was really helpful with my purchase. Just make sure you pay in US$ because they last I checked they''re still using converting CA$1.40 per US$1.00.

I found that USACerted had better prices than diamondexchange.ca. I also liked the fact that I could see the diamond before I bought it. So far I''m very happy with USACerted, but I''m still waiting for teh finsihed product. I''ll let everyone know how it goes.
