PS Mommy thread with toddlers 12-36 months

Date: 11/18/2009 3:07:11 PM
Author: vespergirl
I just wanted to share this charming anecdote from my 36 month old son.

Last night, it was time to for him to get out of the tub, so I told him, ''OK honey, bathtime''s over.'' At which point he gave me a snotty look, and said, ''Leave me alone and go do the dishes.''

It looks like 3 is going to be a harder age than 2 ...

Puffy, thanks for the advice on the stroller - I have 2 friends with BOBs who love them - maybe I''ll look into them. We have a McLearen Techno right now that we love, but I think I''m really going to need a sit n stand when the second little guy arrives ...
OMG Vesper that is hilarious! Getting bossed around by our little ones.

I have been leaning towards a Joovy similar to the one Tacori posted....

Well, I am behind again and will try to catch up with everyone.

Tacori, Puffy, MrsS, Janine, Lili, Bobo, Burk, MSB, QT, and Snlee, thanks for the compliments on my little ballerina and her shoes. The silver ballet slippers are Pedipeds that I found at Nordstrom a couple months before I bought her costume. As soon as I saw the ballet costume, I had to get it because I already had the matching shoes.

Puffy, I love the wobbly stage too. She is getting better at walking, but there are still some wobbles, especially when she gets tired. That is so cute that B tells people about his baby brother. B was such a cute Mickey!

QT, I love your anniversary gift. I’m so sorry to hear about your kidney stones.

Diva, is your DH responsible for the Man Cave, or are you designing it? Glad to hear James is enjoying his new yard. We’re trying to find a new house so A can have a yard to play in (and better schools than where we live now).

Janine, so you have a bossy one year old too, huh? I hear you on the back pain from walking hunched over. It is so sweet to hold their little hands while they walk, but it does become painful quickly. A is getting pretty good at walking on her own. Sometimes she wants to walk by herself and pushes my hand away if I offer it to steady her when she wobbles, and other times she gets fussy with me if I don’t hold her hand and taxi her where she wants to go. Some nights, I am sitting on the coach, and she comes up and takes my hand and pulls at me until I get up and walk her around the house. The back and head arch is no fun. The first few times A surprised me with that trick, I was afraid I would drop her. I second TGal’s suggestion for Stride Rite shoes. They are supposed to provide good support to help little ones learn how to walk. A seemed steadier on her feet when we put her in her first pair of SR’s.

Jas12, sorry to hear about your first battle royale with Co. Have there been reoccurrences? A is starting to have what I call “lay down strikes.” There have been a few times where I tried to get her to do something she didn’t want to do, and she just lay face down on the floor and cried. Happy to hear about your great midi appt. We are having the same issues with “over improving” our home for our neighborhood. We used good quality materials and did things to our taste so we would enjoy living there, but now that we are thinking about moving, I realize we will probably not get our money back on the upgrades because it is not that kind of neighborhood. Sadly, we are looking at homes in the “better” neighborhoods, at houses that cost more than double what our current house will sell for, and the kitchen cabinets, fixtures, etc. are crap compared to what we used. It sucks to have to spend more to buy a house that feels like a “downgrade” from our current house, just to get into a better school district.

38.gif

TGal, sounds like you are having the same temper issue. I had not heard the expression “chucking a nice fruity” before.

MrsS, I have to get around to setting up a FB account so I can hear your DD sing. So cute that Jake puckers his lips and sucks in his cheeks to give kisses. I love those baby kisses.

30.gif
Yay for his first sentence!

Lili, yes A’s hair is getting darker. We knew it would happen because I have medium brown hair and DH has dark brown hair, but I will miss those blond curls. I hope J’s cold got better quickly. It is so cute that she talks and sings to herself when she plays.

Tacori, congrats on getting through the GRE!

36.gif
I’m sure you did great. Your MIL sounds like a real “treat” with giving sweets to T. "tank you docdoc" – too cute!

Burk, sorry to hear about T’s asthma acting up. I hope you and she can get some rest soon. That foreclosure house sounds like a tempting investment.

MSB, sorry you had a rough time in Germany. That was the first place I ever went to in Europe (10 years ago). I was lucky that my DH speaks a little German and had been there before. I enjoyed the museums, churches and castles, but boy did I get tired of eating heavy German food. I bet K will be loving school in no time.

Curly, I’m sorry to hear about Lucy’s accident. It sounds like she was a real trooper. You were smart to take her to the plastic surgeon.

Snlee, yay for D. I can’t believe he got his shots without crying. A goes for her flu shots on Monday, and I am not looking forward to it because she is always so mad after she gets shots. Belated happy birthday!

Bobo, glad to hear your DH’s eye surgery went well. How is he healing?

Vesper, I can’t believe he told you to go do the dishes. It’s funny, but I bet it took you by surprise. I know the UppaBaby Vista stroller has rumble seat (2nd seat) and piggyback (board) attachment options for a second child. http://www.uppababy.com/products/product.php?id=91

TDM--
What are the odds of that that your pregnancy tracks TGal''s and the name.
Hehe, so was Amelia on the girl list?

Janine--
Those babbling stages are fun.
You don''t know what they are saying, but they can carry on like they are having a deep conversation.
And I know they are trying to say something.
J''s been babbling this song everytime we are in the car.
Had no idea what she''s singing, but when I listen to the "words". They are always the same, not any random sounds.

Anyway, not doing family portrait for Christmas.
Heck....we don''t even have a good family picture period.

So far, J''s been in pedipeds and one circo brand.
I just ordered some see kai run and umi that TGal gave us a heads-up on.
The umi fits her now and she seems to like it.
The others are still too big.

Jas12--
36.gif
that''s great MIL is on the same page regarding Co''s eating.
A little juice is not too bad. Can''t fault the grandma for loving to see their grandkids enjoy snacks.
That''s so cute Co is so smitten w/ Santa Claus.
It would be fun to see how he''d react up close and personal w/ the big guy.

QT--
Don''t worry about M''s speech.
As long as she''s babbling, that''s good.
Most kids don''t start talking until 2.
My nephew didn''t start until almost 3.
My sister thought that he had some speech problems, but the specialist said that he''s ok.
He literally became a talking machine overnight.

curlygirl--
36.gif
so glad to hear that Lucy is healing nicely.

MrsS--
Oh no, hope your niece is doing better.
Is Jake ok? How long do you have to wait to see if he''d escaped it?
Yep, it''s that time of year when things start to get chaotic.
Hope you and the girls enjoy the programs.

Tacori--
23.gif
Not something that I''ll look forward too.
J hasn''t gotten to that point yet. Hopefully, she''ll love her skin too much to start throwing her around and banging her head.
How''s the week been for you w/o the GRE looming over your head? :)

Burk--
haha....T''s at the tattletale phase huh?
too cute.

Bobo--
Hehe....Mr5Bites....too funny.
We don''t have a name for J when it comes to mealtime, but DH will always say "that''s it, the buffet is close" since he''ll be offering her 5 things every meal.
We took J for her first dose of the H1N1.
Will need to take her in a couple of weeks for the second dose.
Keep us updated w/ B''s thyroid and co2 tests.

Puffy--
Wow, busy day for you.
I dn''t know how you can do so much activities w/ a toddler and be 30wk+ pregnant.
Hehe....we seem to have a warped perception when it comes to our body.
Believe me, you are tiny.
Woohoo...maternity shoot coming up soon for you.

Msb--
Awwww...poor K and mama.
Is this the first time that he''s away from you?
I forgot, was K ever in daycare?
It sounds like K is slowly adjusting to the pre-K routine though.
Hope it continues and not relapses over the weekend.

Janine--
Too cute. C is an expressive one huh?
J still chatters in her own language, especially when she''s supposedly singing.
Like I said earlier, still trying to figure out which song it is that she''s been singing on our drive to and from work.

Kay--

I''m always amazed at how thorough your responses are.
I don''t know how you can keep track what''s going on w/ all the posts.
I read almost daily and still on many occasions skip posts.

No blond, but Alexis still got those beautiful curls.
Are her baby blues still blue?

I am so far behind too. Seriously, you HAVE to keep up everyday in this thread.

Lili, good but now I have my essay looming. I thought I was pretty set but my BIL and brother who are both writers have convinced me to start over.
32.gif

Vesper, go do the dishes?!? That is hysterical. Where did he learn that?

Kay, I have a love hate relationships with my ILs. If I can let go and just realize they are different than my family and that is ok I would be a lot happier.

Janine, T is crazy. I took her to McD''s for lunch and to play yesterday b/c it was raining and she threw the biggest fit and this other mom was like "ohhh she is so cute." I was like "really?" Haha. She is a stinker. She has also perfected the arch back, cannot get her in the carseat, doing headstands move.
20.gif
Greeeaatttt.

Bobo, one of these days I will have to try the spa thing.

MrsS, how did the cheesecake turn out?

Puffy, I am OVER them. Someone (actually many people) have told me the 3s are worse than the 2s! Not sure I can take it. Maybe it is good my kids will be so far apart.

Burk, I hope she only wants to be like the sweet Tessa NOT the devil one. Today we were leaving a playdate and she wouldn''t give a toy back. She was TOTALLY trying to steal it. What a mess. I had to PRY it out of her hands.

Gross question...T has a scab on her nose that will not heal b/c she keeps picking it. Any ideas how to prevent/avoid/stop this. She even has starting saying "no pick" when she does it b/c we say it to her so often.

LOL. After losing a few responses I typed, I started typing my longer responses in a Word document, and then copying and pasting them on PS. Now, I just type responses in Word as I skim through the posts. I''m a little OCD, so I feel like I have to be thorough when I post. I might post more often if I was more casual and quick about it.

A still has bright blue eyes. I think at this age the color should be permanent, but I''m not certain. Her eye color is pretty close to mine; mine are just a little darker and hers have a touch of gray.

I looked up A''s stats from her 12 month Dr. appointment.

Height: 31 1/4 inches (99th percentile)
Weight: 21 pounds, 7 ounces (58th percentile)
Head Circumference: 18 inches

She is a very tall little girl. I can''t believe she grew 12 inches in 12 months. She better slow down or she will be a giant (if the rule about adult height being twice height at age 2 is correct). I told her she is only allowed to grow 4 inches this year, lol. I don''t want her to be taller than me; it is already too hard to find clothes that fit at 5''10".

A is becoming a very picky eater. She used to gobble down whatever fruit or veggie puree we put in front of her. Now we have to try multiple foods at each meal, and she rejects foods she previously liked. She is becoming very independent and willful. It''s hard to beleive she can be so cute and so annoying at the same time.

Thanks Puffy.

msb700, hope K will warm up to class soon, don''t feel too bad, I think every kid go thru this stage.

Burk, I sometime think Daddy got the best "job" in the world.

Vesper, Toddler attitude is the best. little B is getting there...

Thanks Kay, DH''s eye is healing well. The redness should go away in another week. A is a tall girl!

lili, did J run a fever after the H1N1? little B run a 102 for 24 hrs after the regular flu shot.

Tacori, will a hello kitty band aid help with the picking?

Tacori, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the ILs, especially MIL, too. They are nicer since A was born, though.

Thanks Puffy.

Thanks Kay, DH''s eye is healing well. The redness should go away in another week. A is a tall girl!
I''m glad he is doing well.

Kay~Thanks...she''s actually breathing better, just still in an early wake pattern which is NO fun for this mommy!! I''m 5''10" as well and T has always been super tall and skinny, stats very similar to your A''s. I hope for her sake she only makes it to 5''10" or so because tall is hard at times, although I''m an athlete so it has it''s advantages there!

lili~Oh yea, she has to tell us everything that happens...she can''t quit talking. Ever. This morning she woke up at 5:45 and told me she wanted to go lay on the couch. So I figured maybe I could turn on the Tv and she would relax for at least a half hour...NOPE, wanted to talk my ear off about her grandma, grandpa, on and on and on.....I''m sooooo tired..

Tacori~I think she has some of the sweet Tessa too....but on that particular day it was tantrum Tessa!
9.gif
So funny that your T was trying to steal the toy....mine would totally try something like that. Oh, and we''ve mastered the arch back, not wanting to get in the carseat too...NOT fare. She has also started saying in a great whiny tone, "I no want to!" Annoying.

Bobo~Oh yea, Daddy has a great job...I''d kill to trade for even a day!
40.gif
Glad your DH is doing well.

My DH gets back from his work trip late tonight. T has been super clingy to me in the mornings when I drop her off at daycare (soooo unusual) so I am wondering if it doesn''t have to do with daddy still being gone. He usually isn''t gone this many days in a row.... usually has a day back in between.

selfish post to say C is officially walking. She just left the kitchen and went to the dining room (oops..better go check on her). I can see how easily it is for them to trip over when they are wobbly walkers .. eek have to baby proof!

Yay! Go C! How exciting!

I am waaay behind. Hope to catch up soon!

kay you must have your hands full now that she is walking all the time. but it is such a fun stage, i''m sure you''re enjoying every second of it!!

lili haha, no choice but to stay busy with a toddler! believe me there are days that i just want to stay in but i feel bad for keeping him in the house all day. i know he doesn''t mind cause he''ll tell me it''s ok if we don''t go out, but i still feel bad. and i figure, we won''t be going out as much with the new baby, so i wanted to do as much as i could with him.

tacori seriously, T and B are way too much alike. when he throws fits in public sometimes, i just tell him we have to go cause i hate dealing with a kid who will not listen and basically doesn''t really care. anyways, it''ll take me literally 10 minutes to get him into the carseat and by then, he is fine again, so he asks to go back out. PITA!!! and yes, i have definitely heard that 3s are worse than 2s!! B isn''t even 2 yet and i am already dreading 3! haha.

bobo LOVE the AV!!! so cute he is..he looks all grown up!

janine YAY for C!!!! watching them walk is so much fun!!!

burk i got a bunch of jeans and cords from a pea in the pod, which i love. i had previously bought a bunch of designer maternity jeans from them when i was preggo with B, but they didn''t fit this time around, would you believe that they are too big??? haha!! i live in yoga pants, they are just way too comfy, but it''s nice to have some regular pants too sometimes. you look great by the way...tiny tiny tiny!!

not much going on over here....B''s asking about his baby brother and when he will be here, haha. it''s pretty cute. he goes into the nursery everyday and looks around and "cleans." we''re going to toys r us later to finish up some christmas shopping for all the kids and i''m sure he''ll find something that he HAS to have.

almost 35 weeks preggo and i seriously am ready for baby to be born as soon as i am full term. things are getting harder. i bent down the other day and tried to get back up and it was not easy. haha!! but it comes with the territory i guess.

have a wonderful weekend!!

Tessa was being such a brat today. Seriously if the 3s are worse than the 2s I am in major trouble. We went out to lunch with some friends and she was rotten, whiney, annoying...*sigh* The other kids were absolute angels of course. Oh well. She was sweet when we got home. I had my friend''s little boy over and they were dancing and playing. Maybe I should just never take her out in public
20.gif

Kay, what a tall girl! Lucky. It sucks being short. My ILs are crazier. Or I am. Or a combo. It is sometimes strained. Like they say expectations are premeditated resentments.

Bobo, I am going to try that but she will probably pick it off. T did not have a fever after the flu shot or the H1N1 mist. Also, I totally agree it is WAY better to be a dad than a mom.

Burk, I cannot imagine struggle with T and the carseat with a belly in the way. I would be in so much trouble b/c I get big. Sounds like your T is really verbal! Glad your DH is coming home. Any news on the bid?

Janine, congrats! Love those first wobbly months.

Puffy, sorry you have a strong willed kid too. I know in my heart it is not BAD to be so spirited and hope as an adult she can channel that into something good but what a PITA in the meantime! Sometimes I ask my mom "how did I end up with a kid like this?" DH and I are so laid back so she didn''t learn it from us. Oh well. You are getting SOOO close!!!!

It is so exciting when they start to walk, but also frightening when you see how fast they can get away and into things.

I bet you are right that T is clingy because her daddy is gone. It is probably throwing her routine off, and so she is being extra needy with you.

I like being tall now, but I hated it as a kid/teenager. It seems any feature that stands out from the norm will subject a kid to teasing.

Puffy, you are getting so close! Too cute that B "cleans" the nursery. it sounds like he is almost as ready as you are.

I have never heard that expression before, but it is true. I was crazy enough to agree to spend Christmas at my in-laws this year. The one good thing is that there will be plenty of people who want to watch A, so I can just sit and drink if people get on my nerves.
2.gif

Kay: wow you do have a tall one! A''s got over 2 inches on C! Well DH and I are firmly in "average" height category, so I guess a lot is genetics!

Tacori: You have to video one of these tantrums and put it on FB, along with the angel moments too of course--but I just want to see T in action!
Tacori & Kay: I have the in-law curse too. I used to love holidays, now I dread them! Do your DH''s sympathize? Mine does sometimes--other times it''s a power struggle.

Puffy: We need some belly pics!

Bobo: love the new avatar, what a handsome little boy!

snlee et al: thanks for the walking yays! She is walking a lot now that''s she''s built the confidence but doesn''t look where''s she''s stepping! Playroom''s a bit of an obstacle course but she just looks ahead and walks--so that does make me nervous. D will be walking soon, you wait and see, I was surprised how quickly it came about once C had cruising down. Talking..that''s another story. She sure likes saying no ("na na" with head back and forth and hand pushing away) but otherwise says a portion of a new word and then loses interest and doesn''t say it anymore.

Janine
Yay for C walking!!!

Hi to all the mommies and toddlers.

And thanks for the reassurance on speech developement/talking.

Oh my goodness a year is too long to be gone! I started knitting and got all wrapped up in my yarn, literally, and don''t spend nearly that much time online anymore!

Look at how big all the babies are! Tacori, your avatar of Tessa is beautiful! Bobo, your boy is huge! Burk! Lookit your pretty big girl!

I can''t believe it!

I''m back on since I''m dealing with a diamond thing, and I cannot believe how much things have changed with my PS friends!! Who''s on a next baby? Any preggers on here?

My 2 are doing great, we have a lot of fun. Delaney is a joy. She''s a wild chicken, but I love her to pieces. She adores her big brother and he''s just getting so tall & smart. Its nutty!

xoxo

So glad to see you all again!

Love,
diver

DIVER!!!!!!!!! I''ve missed you so much, girl! Welcome back!!!! A lot of us are on FB now so that''s where we post our pictures. I hope you''ll find us there--I''m dying to see updated photos of Jake and Delaney. You have lots of catching up to do--we have quite a few new preggos here. I''m done but I''m living vicariously through everyone else!! So great to have you back, hope you''ll stick around for awhile or find us on facebook. xoxoxo

Ditto everything Curly said :) TGal is the easiest to find on FB, and from there you can find many of us! If you don''t head over that way, just give us at least one little teaser shot of your gorgeous kiddies here!

diver, so glad you popped in. sorry about your diamond though. I would love to see pics of your kiddo''s too.

i only have a sec but wanted to also say hello to all the other mommies. busy all the time right now and only very brief spurts on PS. I do follow along and read when I can.

not much in Jake news, more of the same. he''s doing great and I''m looking forward to the upcoming Holidays and Christmas with him this year. Hope everyone else is doing great!!
