Princess Cut diamonds - what am I looking for?

I was one of the lucky ones who bought the mispriced Costco princess cut earrings (1.0 cttw, VS2, I). I've been a little disappointed in them because they seem to lack the fire of my ACA MRB. I see flashes of brilliance, but those flashes seem very splintery/small. Is this due to the size (omg, is this DSS already?!?!) or nature of the cut?

I am a complete newbie to princess cut diamonds. Before I sink money into them and reset them into a ring, my questions for those experienced in princess cut diamonds are:

1. Are princess cut diamonds similar to modern round brilliants, but...square shaped?
2. Am I supposed to see chevrons in small princess cut diamonds?
3. At this size (~0.5ct each), should I expect to see fire?
4. Do I evaluate princess cuts similar to other fancy cuts, and the performance of a princess cut is based purely on my "gut feeling" and eyes?

Thank you for your guidance!

@southernicetea We have the same earrings. Princess diamonds are either a love them or dislike them diamond cut. I see them as sparkles of glitter so I like them. I bet if you put them up for sale for the price you paid you would get your money back. They are selling in the store for $2k. There are other people that missed out and may want to buy them.
They will have fire and sparkle but nothing like a MRB. It’s just different as other cuts have different sparkle patterns.
I went back and forth and probably drove David crazy with my pics and updates on what I wanted..but I finally decided to halo them. I never thought I would halo a princess but I really like the look. I put that pic up in my thread about what I wanted to do. I found a baguette and princess square cluster on Ruby Lane that I considered as an inspiration but I chickened out. I also wrestled with making a ring..but I have rings I don’t wear that are right hand rings..and that’s what it would be. Think about selling them on LT for a bit if you’re not happy with them.

@Mamabean, that's good advice. I'm going to sit on it a little longer and if I'm still not happy with them, I'll sell on LT. Thank you.

I agree with @Mamabean that there's not a happy medium for princess cuts. I don't care for them personally, but that's me. You could definitely get back what you have in them. Heck, I'd probably buy them for my mother if you sold them because she loves the cut.

You can’t compare a Costco princess cut to a super ideal round. If your not happy with them, sell them and get something more to your tastes.
